Land Recovery CLASS 60's NEXT to be LEAVING Toton After 10+ Years of STORAGE..!

See the next batch of 4 x Class 60's acquired by Land Recovery waiting to leave Toton.
The loading ramp can be see at the end of the car park with the next EWS liveried tug waiting to be loaded. Once this loco has left - The next three which have been moved across to the depot from the storage lines can be seen waiting next to the refuelling area.. These are 60012, 60068 and 60084.
See wider views of the sprawling Toton site also, including the north yard engineering facilities, paint shop, TMD and loco stabling points.

All footage was captured in accordance to the Jun-24 CAA drone/UAS rules, using a compliant sized drone for the flight area.

It seems strange how any of these locos can be cost effectively returned to operational readiness given that the reason for their storage was presumably due to defects that were deemed uneconomical to fix at the time.

they're only selling them now because the prices of all metals are sky high so its worked out in their favour what's a scrap class 60 worth roughly 129 tons at say £200 a ton on steel say £25k now in 2010 they would have got half that £12k or less but I'm glad they may see a new life with a new company that will look after their locomotives as DB shenker aught to be ashamed of themselves!

@@justinobrien3593 I think that part of the problem is that all assets depreciate in value over time and so get to the point where it costs more to repair them than they are worth as far as rhe balance sheet is concerned. It seems daft but I think that is how the financial system appears to work.

A shadow of what Toton used to be , the Bean counters have destroyed all of the industry in this country sadly😢

@@neilrobinson1956 not sure now but I think the class 24 & 25 locos ended up in the same position where their book value became virtually nil and as a result perfectly servicable locos were scrapped as they were deemed to be write offs when due for repair or maintenance.

I can never understand why they don't put certain Class Loco's in 1 Area (Stored & a separate Running area then another Class Loco in a 2nd area ete-etc, It would be far easier to move Loco's around the base and save loads of time. In the late 70-80's the Loco's on Toton use to be all in excellent condition (Very rare you would see a bad condition one unless it was accident damaged) but these days apart from the refurbished Loco's on shed they all look derelict.

the money sat there in them class 60s alone is £1000s as scrap or repairable loco's as some ain't moved since 2008 sadly! so obviously they didn't need the money as if it was a British owned company would of sold them on! Good video 🥰

@@trainsplanes The wind must have really picked up later in the afternoon then this was late morning around 11. I thought I saw you with others on the stapleford station road bridge when I passed.

That was probably me - I'd already got this footage prior to then when it was calmer. From memory it did get stronger as the day went on if I'm thinking of the right day.

What make if cars are in the compound. Toyota? for export. Never knew Toton was used for that

Yes, Cars come from the plant at Burniston for transportation by rail, ( Toyota Auris) , Other models come inbound Toton is only a short distance from Toyota's factory.

I believe that and I am expecting that EMD/Progress Rail are to rebuilt/repurpose these 12 Class 60's to something that what become of the Class 56's into Class 69's. But with 60014 at Longport and talks of EMD/PR are to use the more compact Caterpillar C-175 units into these Class 60's as the EMD 710 power unit is 4 inches too tall to fit into the Class 60 shell without altering the roof profile. Whilst the original Mirrlees unit is Euro 3 emissions. The C-175 is Euro 6/Tier 4 which makes it more compliant when going through cities that have ULEZ restrictions. I am not even going to speak about that silly idea of a steam/hydrogen idea that popped up a while ago because to me. That doesn't seem logical when we have a much better and cheaper Euro 6 alternative available that would extend the life of these Class 60 shells for up to 20 years. I am still keeping an eye on 60014 for the meantime though as that to me seems to be the most logical choice. Great video as well by the way. Peter.

@@bfapple I think something will become of 60014. Wanted are working on 60099 for DC Rail right now and they are to put this one back into service around October if not sooner than expected.

I don't get what's happening here? These Class 60's being moved to Land Recovery are they going to be restored back to service or eventually cut-up and scrapped?

The intention is to return a number of them to active service on Land Recovery’s operation at Longport - Whether it happens or not is another thing. 🤷‍♂️🙏

Any way to know when the road journeys will be? I've seen a couple of them passing through Alsager just before the final destination (a few weeks ago). Would be nice to know when exactly the others will pass through.
