I've had this thing on the shelf for over a year, having bought it at last years Rarsfest. With things going in in the world today i became more motivated to having a dedicated scanner antenna to keep track of what was going on in my area. This also has a 10/11/12 meter HAM/CB antenna as well so I've got an indoor setup that I've been working on as well for it. The RCI Ranger is off for repairs, but when it returns it will sit next to my Realistic scanner, and my Realistic shortwave radio DX100 to create an second smaller radio room.

I skimmed through till the end , my hips and knees were hurting watching that ! I meant to email you last night but I will tonight . Looks great , but I think the IMAX is gonna work out better on the Ranger . I could be wrong but I’m betting the best SWR you’ll see on that Tram is about 1.4/1.5 . Looking forward to finding out 👌.

Looking forward to hearin it work. Our local fire and OPP haven't switched to digital yet (you know horses and mounties lol) so there is still quite a bit of noise still. Cheers!

I have the older one with out the CB antenna on it but as far as a scanner antenna it is great I have had mine for 20+ years now and still works great and it dubbles as a TV antenna as well

When you do the part two video on this antenna to answer all the questions you created, LOL can you please show how this mounted to the post? Also can you try the antenna out on CB and give a performance report or AAR? Thanks

They don't work well on CB. A local tried one and only got out about as good as his mobile. He sold it and got an I max..

You think a regular 102" whip would perform better for CB? Like a TRAM 1480?

I just assembled one. The two long radials with threads on both ends should be opposite one another and the black adjustable pieces go on the ends. These are for adjusting the CB portion. Make sure all the nuts are first screwed all the way onto the radials, then tighten after inserting all the way. It was very easy to assemble, 10-15 minutes.

I have a Tram D 201. Awesome old radio. That antenna is great for the higher ham bands but has like no gain on CB. It wont get out too far on 11 meters.

I had an issue with the rods only having one nut.. after some wind and time rods start backing out.. your gonna need to double nut the rods or use some lock tight... at least I had to FYI

Very good, if it is somewhat complicated the first time to assemble it, I feel that the vertical part is very fragile, very long and thin, I don't know how much wind it supports when placed outside. And the two long rods that it brings to be placed diagonally. My intention is to use it for VHF-UHF, commercial FM. I have another discone, the MFJ-1868 and this one has worked wonderfully for me. 73 from Mexico.

Looks nice! Sounds like a good replacement to what I am using 102" whip antenna mounted to the side of my house. Not a bad price either I think I will pick one up.

I have had one of these on a side mount on my 60 ft tower for about 15 years and it has held up well. It receives great but as far as transmit forget about getting any significant range as it is practically a dummy load. I will look for your review on its performance.

There are measurements to be taken. Once you have your SWR set, you are good to go.

Love all your videos very informative. I just recently purchased a discone antenna very similar to yours but smaller and a different brand. I just installed it today on an antenna roof mount and I'm trying to figure out how do you ground this disc cone antenna for lightning strikes. I have never owned an antenna like this as in the past they were always the vertical antennas with ground planes. Could you please tell me how and where to mount the ground wire on the disc cone antenna thank you very much keep up the great work

Hey Eric, i think this 1411 antenna can transmit on CB, 10 meters, 6 meters, 2 meters, 220, 440, 902 and on 1240mhz as well like all others ??

I had a discone like that, if it gets iced over or a lot of snow on it it shorts out and becomes useless for transmitting.

Because it's usually done on a ladder or hanging over the roofline. Not exactly a great time to be messing with a camera at the same time.

I always use a ground rod and ground cable to any antenna I use. It's a pain, but the alterative is much worse.
