This FL Studio trance bass tutorial will show you how to make the 3 most basic uplifting trance basslines. These are the 3 fundamental underlying sub basslines that is used in most tracks. This is the foundation on which most basslines are built.
The video will also show you how to make a mid bass drive to go along with the sub bass, as well as some basic percussion elements.
This is a rather basic tutorial on how to make some trance basslines. There will usually be saturation, compression, delay, reverb and so on, but I wanted to make this video as short as possible with focus on the midi itself, so I didn't want to spend too much time on the actual mixing.
I will make a longer and more detailed Trance drive tutorial later.

Pad for wide, panning should be like what? For example %25for left and another pad %25for right is it ok?

@@ozantabakofficial theres no rule of thumb for panning, it depends on what u want to acieve or what is necessary. usually a pad doesnt need to be panned because its already wide through the amount of voices, detuning and chorus effect

@@ozantabakofficial It depends how much panning you should apply. A wide pad can also be achieved with a stereo widener plug-in (be aware to get no phasing issues!), clever use of reverb etcetera. In fact it doesn’t matter how much panning is used. There are no rules. First you got to know the rules of music production and then you can simply let them go and let your creativity flow.

My own workflow is often quite chaotic though, as you can see in this video where I recreated a James Dymond track: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qpt2mK6ovJfdh2g.html I really think it would have helped a lot if FL Studio had a true folder track architecture in the playlist, like other daws have. :)

@@FireWalkMusic a new update has nested automation under the appropriate channel now thankfully. So that would clean an arrangement window up quite a bit since a lot of clips are usually a ton of automation lol.. I choose bitwig personally because of the cleanness of the whole workflow but still dabble in FL because it's very quick to get ideas down.

@@Mrdjhappyman Indeed. It's a step in the right direction, but it's still just an automatic "group with above track" function. It's nothing like a true folder track architecture like in many other daws. The problem with "group with above" is that you can only group once. You have to choose between grouping either your automation with the correct track, or grouping all your elements together. You can't do both. For example, in Cubase I typically group all my percussion as one, all my leads as one and so on, and then the automation will still be linked with each respective track. The automatic nesting now kind of emulates that, but it comes at the expense of grouping similar elements together, so I hope they move to a true folder track architecture eventually. This will make organizing much better.

Hey FIREWALK I have been watching quietly for some time now your TUTORIALS and DAW PRODUCTION SKILLS on how to PRODUCE TRANCE . I personally think your one of the BEST TUTORS maybe even THE BEST. I also agree that TRANCE PRODUCTION is definatly one of the hardest GENRES to COMPOSE. My problem always seems to be when it comes to WRITING my THEME. I lose Track of time writing my THEMES spending more time on trying to SUMMARISE my arrangement within my THEME. But by the time i have finished laying down my MELODIES , RESOLVING CHORDS, LEADS MOTIVES and arrangement structure etc. I forget all the PERCUSSION and basic things like my EFFECTS for TENSION BUILD etc. I very rarely ever finish many TRACKS because of this BAD HABIT. Also i have tried to WRITE the other way round. But my love is the MELODIES & CHORDS & EUPHORICNESS of TRANCE. In your experience is this a habit that i need to get out of. Thanks also for the TIME & EFFORT you put into your VIDEO TUTORIALS. I,m sure many ppl who VISIT YOUR SITE like my self gain VALUABLE KNOWLEDGE and PERSONAL SKILL SETS from yourself. I would like to a see more in depth TUTORIAL on how to STRUCTURE A TRACK if like myself you get lost in SOUND DESIGN and the whole MELODIC STRUCTURE of a track and HOW TO OVERCOME WRITERS BLOCK if possible. Hi, glad you found the videos helpful. More trance related tutorials are planned. It sounds to me like you're making some classic mistakes here. As a producer you're always in a race against time in order to complete a track. You need to be able to get things down quickly, before ear fatigue sets in. At that point, you're going to be so sick and tired of listening to the track that chances are slim you'll ever finish it. There are ways to help prevent this, and some workflows work better than others. If you need help with your tracks, and general advice etc then I recommend using my feedback service. I like these bassline :) alternative names for each bassline in order: 1) Off beat 2) Gallop 3) Full-on Anyway, thank you for side-chaining tips for mid bass. I never able to create a 'proper' trance track, i guess I have wrong hobby haha.

Thanks! Yes I know, trance is by far the most challenging genre to produce and get RIGHT in my book. I remember back in the late 90's / early 2000's when trance first emerged. I was still making music using trackers back than (this was before the DAW era) and I never managed to figure out how to make trance... Eventually I gave up on it. We didn't have youtube and tutorials back then.I think it took me several years to really feel comfortable with trance. During that time I watched everything that was available on the subject, reading books and so on. People who think that trance is an easy genre to produce really don't know what they are talking about. It might sound easy, but it's not. In fact, if it sounds easy, it was hard to make. :D

2:30 not triplets. they are straight 16th notes with the first one of each beat left out to leave space for the kick.

Hey, late 90s / early 2000's trance bass lines are very simple compared to today's bass lines, and they are also covered in this video. This video focuses on the sub bass in the bass line, which is the main foundation of the bass line. That's where the power is. There are three main underlying bass lines when it comes to all kinds of, and this video cover those three. They are the same both in uplifting trance and in psy trance. The difference is that in uplifting trance you also tend to have rolling mid bass lines with different and somewhat more complex patterns layered on top if the main sub bass, while in psy trance you just have one main bass. Back in the early 2000's trance music used the same basic sub bass lines as today, either the classic off beat bass, or a rolling bass line. It's the same basic technique as covered in this video. Back then there were no daws like today, so everything you hear in those old classics was most likely made on hardware, and then recorded. That means that everything was structured much simpler than what you'll find in today's music. It still sounded great though :)

But adding the Patcher for the mid bass in the mixer was unique to me I learnt a lot wicked!

In other daws you would usually use send tracks for this. You can do it in FL too, but because the PDC system in FL Studio is flawed (they will attempt to fix it in FL20) I rarely use them. Especially when using submixes and such, you'll end up with several tracks not being delay compensated properly and everything will be out of sync. Patcher acheives the same thing as a send track, but without the PDC issues. Send tracks are a lot faster and more organized though. Patcher tend to be hidden away here and there, while send tracks are always visible and makes it easy to see what's going where. If they manage to fix it in FL20 I'll be using the send tracks again instead. :)

Hi, FireWalk I am really loving these. I needed some refreshing on mixing and these cover exactly what I needed! I agree with you a visual representation of the sample in the envelope section would definitely help. I usually just use the fade out knob on the sampler just for the fact I can see and hear what I am doing (even though the envelope is the correct tool to use). I was wondering if you could do an in depth video on layering sounds. A lot of people have done it but they do it in such an odd manner and whatever they do comes out sounding terrible. In other words, it's fast with no care put into it and you make it brief but in depth.

John, Thanks! I'm glad to hear that you found the content helpful! I know exactly what you mean. There are SO many tutorials out there. Some of them are simply wrong, some are made in 5 minutes for the sole purpose of getting views, and others are just dragging out the time, talking about their cat and their life. A friend of mine who was starting out had real difficulties learning the relevant information, despite the huge amount of tutorials out there, for this very reason. This is in fact the very reason I started making these tutorials. I wanted to make videos that was as short as possible, straight to the point and at the same time containing all the relevant info. Covering not only how, but also a little bit of why you would do something. It's much easier to learn how to do something when you also have a basic idea of why you should do it. Your suggestion is an excellent one. I will make sure to put it high up on my "to do" list. :)

FireWalk you do an awesome job!let me tell you! Well I recently decided it was time for another jump in progress. after having actually spent money for classes that come out to be completely useless (masterclass with deadmau) as he didn't explain why or go in depth with mixing. I understand the know how but not why part considering that why compression has taken so long for me to get used to. Which I was afraid that would happen. Ill definitely be keeping an eye out. Thank for responding!

Thanks! :) Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. Music production is such a huge and confusing topic. Watch 5 tutorials about the same thing, and you get 5 different ways of doing it, and 5 different reasons why you need to do it that way. Where to begin? In many ways, it would be easier taking on rocket science.. :D

What a fantastic tutorial. Thank you explaining stuff here, especially things to watch our for to help make the mix sound better. Gets me really excited. Couple of quick questions if you don't mind! What VST/plugin were your basses using? They sounded really good. Also, you mentioned uplifting trance here which is my main genre I want to hit. Do you have any VST recommendations for a beginner who wants to produce uplifting trance? I am enjoying the Sylenth1 demo right now, but I'm having trouble trying to find/create good sounding leads and (to a lesser extent) pads. Anything I should look into? Thanks for putting so much effort into the video!! Really appreciate it!

Glad you liked it :) I think the synths was either sylenth1 or spire. Sylenth1 is good, I use it a lot. Spire is good too, same with Diva and Serum too. It doesn't really matter though, all vst's will be capable of making good trance sounds. It's just a matter of settings.

Know I’m late but you can shorten wave forms visually on fl studio, I can on mine and it’s older 😂 on the screen before going to envelope settings use the parameters and you can tighten from there 👍

Yes, this has been possible for quite some time, but that's not the same thing. In this example the kick sample is being cut off with volume automation basically, so the transient and the bulk of the body of the kick is preserved until the very last moment, when it's cut off. Basically just the last bit of the tail is cut off when you do it this way. If you use the in and out knobs in the sampler itself, you change the entire sample, basically fading it out from from the very start, which will cause it to loose most of it's energy early on. By doing it this way instead, you preserve the power for as long as possible, while at the same time removing that last bit that's causing mud and overlap. :)

Thanks, glad you liked it. General rule of thumb, the dryer a sound is the more up front it will be. When you apply reverb and delay and such, it tends to push the sound to the back of a mix. Keeping the sounds at the center of the mix also helps.

Great tutorial, could you please please make a tutorial on how to sidechain kick and bass perfectly using fruity limiter. I went ratio all the way and thres -26.0 I lost too much of my bass punchiness but this feel the best sidechain ratio.

Hello, I have a question I can't seem to find an answer for. Maybe I'm coming at it from the wrong angle. I want to make some preset arpeggios for the FL Apreggiator in Piano Roll that I can reuse on other projects . My goal is, so I don't have to draw them in each time. FL has an arpeggiator in the piano roll with preset patterns or templates. Can I create and add my own templates to this? ...or shall I say...how do I save my arpeggios for the FL Studio Apreggiator ? Another simple explanation is: I want to write a simple trance pattern/rhythm and then save it as a pattern/template for use later. Thanks and Have an awesome day, or night or both.
