Trans woman here. Never really understood this fear because you look more masc. But when you explained that your boyhood was cut short by your hair loss, I got it. The average man gets at least 2 decades of great hair. You’re allowed to want that. Thank you for the lesson FYI you look very handsome, I get why your partner doesn’t care

Going bald isn't frustrating because it doesn't look good, it's frustrating because you don't really have a choice and your options for picking a style that fits your identity disappears. So even when it looks good or looks more masculine, that can still not fit the identity and look you would like to have. Let's hope we get to a point we can all enjoy hair for the rest of our lifes, because there is no age when it's fun to go bald. Regardless if you are a man or a woman. And by that I mean cis or trans, doesn't matter! :-)

Not all trans guys want to look as masc as possible either. Its not that linear yknow? I want to look masc but like the expression of my hairstyle and softening of my face.

I agree that both looks suit you. Awesome that you accept yourself. Cis gender men and older trans women with hair loss have to deal with that all the time. It is very overwhelming and can cause emotional distress. Mostly it's our culture. Hair is overrated and to pass as a trans woman is growing your hair out but if you have a receding hair line it can look very male. In the cis gender man world guys have to compete in the dating scene to attract a woman and in this day and age, dating is more challenging.

This is due to her so-called 'transition'. She looks terrible, and ten years older than her real age. Hopefully this will be a lesson to girls planning to hijack their system with t.

I have a close cis male friend who over the course of one year, when he was 19, NINETEEN years old went from having shoulder length hair to having a Patrick Stewart hair line. He said he knew it was coming because all the males in his family are bald but he didn't expect it all to happen in one year. He, unlike all of his uncles, just went with it and started shaving his head as well. He just decided it was the hand he was dealt and he was just going to accept it and honestly, it works for him and I can't even imagine him with hair. So good for you.

Actually, when you're 19 if you get minoxidil to it pretty soon in the process. All the hair comes back. When I was 19 It grew even in the middle of my forehead, where I would drop some minoxidil accidently. All young dudes that do that, that I have seen, get similar results. You need to aply everyday tough. The thing is. There's no enough information about it around you when you're young, few people go to the doctor, and also, you get depressed really easy and falls in the fatalistic state, like your friend did, to get out of the hole. If you are balding for a while already tough... The results are just partial and little to nothing even. Just transplants will do then.

You described the grief over hair loss with "a 5 year old boy going bald" SO WELL! 🥲I was very paranoid about my hair loss in the first couple years, just when I was beginning to feel comfortable as myself (and date-able for that). I didn't want to give up my youth so soon. Especially, when I missed out on most of it so far. But now that it has been almost 8 years, and I'm nearing 30, I think, I will let my 'masculine genes' inside of me take over, and welcome it that way. This video helped me find some peace on this topic! Thank you for sharing your insights! 😽

Thanks for being so honest Alex, I feel like there's a pressure when you're trans to always act like all the changes are the best simply because of the 'you'll regret it' thing that most of us are told. Just because you're not happy with one or two changes from hormones does not mean that you regret it. I have a friend who is cis who dealt with balding since 18 which is really young and it affected his mental health a lot. Does that mean he'd rather be a girl? No of course not lol, it's just something that guys sometimes have to deal with. And female pattern baldness does happen too, as do things like alopecia, health conditions, stress or certain treatments like chemotherapy can cause hair loss, it's something lots of people have to deal with and it shouldn't be weaponized against them. Hair loss is not in my genes and I don't have any experience with it (at the moment, who knows what could happen in the future) but like I said I've seen friends deal with it and it's affected them a lot, it's nothing to be ashamed of to say it's had an affect on you and it's fine to take time to accept and even embrace it, if you ever get to that stage. I feel trans guys/trans masculine people especially need to hear this, it's ok if not every affect of hormones makes you jump for joy lol, there's very few things in the world which have no cons at all, that doesn't mean it hasn't changed life for the better. While it won't happen to all of us it will happen to some, I think it's about the same as for cis guys? And if you're really worried there are all sorts of treatments out there for hair loss nowadays, hair systems etc Edit: Not me giving an unwarranted ted talk in the comments lol

@@c.chinaski3156 Two things can be true at once, you can be happy with most aspects of something and not happy with one aspect of it. For example, if someone has a baby and they're sad sometimes that they can't go out as much as they used to, does that mean they regret having kids? Because that means pretty much every parent would regret having kids which isn't the case lmao. Your black and white thinking isn't logical, you're coming across as just wanting to revel at the idea of someone being uncomfortable which is really weird considering he's not done anything to you

Totally understand the "balding as a five year old boy" thing. I'm a trans guy and lost all my hair whilst in girl mode (alopecia) and it's absolutely a thing that we take as long as we take to come to terms with it. It's a process. I'm newly on T and alopecia might mean I can't grow facial hair, which would suck, but I've accepted my status as a baldie and that's actually a relief. So thank you for this video, and 🤜🏻 from one bald trans man to another!

I'm a trans guy in the same position. Receding hairline and thinning hair up top. More and more I think about just shaving it all off because it's my biggest insecurity right now but I also feel like you. I was just starting to feel comfortable in my appearance and wanting to be more free in my hair style but now that feels so out of reach because of hair loss. I almost feel like I'm mourning my hair lol but its kinda true. Like you I'd go bald a million times over to be able to transition so thanks for being open about it because I feel less alone about being a balding guy in my 20s

I'm nonbinary with PCOS, short hair and hair loss and I know the struggle of hiding, styling, hair powder etc. A lot of times I'm thinking about just shaving my head, but the reactions I got when I tried it one time make me shy away from it for now. I read female to most people and they „accept“ the short hair, but not a shaved head.

I'm 21 so.. maybe a bit young to worry about this. I haven't had any hair loss so far. But the thing that scares me the most about possibly losing my hair is that I know my family would comment on it 24/7. My mother already struggles to accept me and often says how I'm "turning uglier" because of testosterone (I actually look like a snack, but you know how mothers are), and I just know I'd lose even that tiny support from my parents if I lost my hair. It makes me really sad..

I'm sorry you have to deal with that but just so you know I have a friend who is a trans woman and she's said about her parents saying weird things like that when she started hormones, I honestly just think it's a projection of their own issues because no one would ever say that to a cis person going through puberty unless they were horrible. Parents are complicated, but just know you do deserve better than weird comments like that which they would never say if you were cis

Seeing you in the last video and now is so encouraging for me, because I already had widow's peaks pre T and having been on T the last couple years just turned that into full-blown male pattern baldness. It runs in my mum's side of the family and even she has it so yeah. I'm still not ready to shave it all and I wanna dye it at least once before it's gone, but yeah my front is getting real thin too. Bald men look great and men with full hair do too, but yeah it's a struggle when you're in between. :') But thanks for sharing your experiences. It's always good to know you're not alone. Thank you.

You're so SO right that so much of it is tied up in fear of ageing! I'm 42, been on low-dose T for a couple years. I never comment on KZfaq videos but I just had to. I'm going through the same thing at roughly the same age (27) at almost the same amount of time on T (almost 6 years). I also had a full head of hair all my life until about two years ago when I started getting comments about my receding hairline. I hadn't noticed a thing, perhaps just the fact that my hair had become softer, which I had initially attributed to testosterone changing its texture when in fact it was thinning. I really started to notice it about a year ago and since then it's been an obsession of mine. The back of my head and my sides are fine but the top keeps getting thinner and I know it's only a question of time before I go completely bald there. I, too, always associated my hair as one of my best features and losing it is debilitating. But seeing someone like you having the courage to finally embrace it and shave it all off gives me hope that one day I'll also be able to take the next step and overcome my fear of being an egg.

Thank you for talking about this. I have been on T for 7 yrs now and started noticing my hair thinning about a year ago. I have always had super thick & nice hair, but my mom’s dad was like… full on monk bald by the time he was 27. Which is… how old I am now. I knew it would come for me at some point, but hoped I could hit like… 40 maybe before it really kicked in. I pushed it out of my mind and just kinda dealt with it, but this summer after seeing how obvious it was when I had a short haircut, I broke down crying and just shaved it off. I’ve been shaving my head for almost 6 months now. It was so hard initially. I felt so sad, so ashamed. I had wanted to grow my hair out and be a dude with like… gorgeous medium length hair. I just feel like I got robbed of the time to experiment with it after starting to feel really comfortable with myself. Now that I’m used to it, I think I do possibly look better bald. My head shape works for it. But I do wish that culturally there was more active love for bald men being attractive. I think it would have helped me feel less ashamed if I could feel as though… the bald look was something to be desired as something that looks good, and less so something that I felt I was doing out of shame of hairloss. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

You really suit the look to be totally honest, mate and it does not make you look old. Our transitions have pretty much been hand-in-hand over the years, I realised I was trans through your videos when I was 14, at 17 I started T (2014) and got top surgery in 2015 (Scotland used to be good for shorter queues). My hair was fine for years and years until 2021 when my best friend committed suicide, the stress of finding him and going through all that is when my hair started thinning. I have used fibres but mostly have used hats. It has gotten very bad the past few months and I have been considering getting a hair system so I will wait to see what your video on the subject says. I dont quite have a full beard yet otherwise I would just shave my hair off lmao. PS. I see that beholder t-shirt, good taste.

trans guy here dealing with the exact same thing. you and I started T in the same year and things have gone incredibly similarly to how it was for you. hair loss doesn't feel good for anyone but you're right that it has that special (bad) something for trans men. In my (queer) environment, hair is one of the main ways to express your identity and I felt really bad bc I had that way of expression taken away from me. but there's much more to life than expression of queer identity through hair, obviously, and I truly get that now. I lowered my T dose (after talking to my endocrinologist) to hopefully slow the hair loss a bit which is what is helping me atm. but it means so much to me to see you, someone I've looked up to from the very beginning of my transition, being able to embrace it in this way. so thank you.

Good to see you again! A lot of guys kind of disappear after they finish the major parts of their transition. I guess I haven't checked in a while either.. I'm not really sure what to expect for my hair genes. My paternal cousins were bald at 22 and 30, both brothers. It was strange because even our dads still have some hair and their maternal relatives didn't have hair issues. Then on my mom's side, the women are the ones with thinning hair, while the guys have thick hair. I think the corners of my forehead have a little recession but don't think I'm losing hair just yet. I have an online friend who used to have really long hair in their egg days but cut short to pass better. They also have less hair now, which they are starting to accept. I just hope that I don't have to deal with it for a while, because I don't have the genes for extra body hair, so I can "save" hair, maybe? I started getting darker hair below my lip after 6 years so I might actually get some more changes.

you look great dude! it was totally validating to hear you talk about this! like you said, hair loss can be hard for any man, but i do think it hits extra hard for trans men. to your point, it feels like we're having our boyhood cut short, and i think its also just a side effect of being socialized female and having so much value put on our hair. at least i know that's how it's been for me. there was always so much pressure to 'be attractive' and i'd been so ingrained to believe that having beautiful hair was part of that. it can be stressful when you notice your hairline starting to go - especially when it happens rapidly. thank you for talking about this, thank you for talking about different options (i'm very curious about your hair systems video and will definitely give it a watch!), and thank you for taking the plunge and giving it a shot. i genuinely think it suits you! as for another option (not sure if available in every country, but worth looking into), you can try finasteride! it typically only works for thinning hair (it wont help anything that's already fully bald), but it's pretty magic. just a ~$1 pill per day and it blocks some of the hormones that affect hair loss. it can help thinned areas thicken back up, and will prevent other areas from experiencing any further hair loss. it's not perfect, but i've found finasteride+minoxodil+biotin made a huge difference for my hair. my hairline is less than what i'd prefer and if i can afford transplant someday, i'd like to, but the finasteride+minoxodil in particular made an extreme difference to the hair i do have. it brought back about two years worth of loss and has prevented any further loss in the 3 or so years i've been on it. that said, just taking the plunge and shaving sounds so freeing, and it's very helpful to see someone i've looked up to a long time talk about it and show how nice it can look and feel, and how even though it might be hard/scary, it's not the end of the world. thank you!

As a ciswoman that shaves my hair to 3mm, it is important to listen to you, and others, to learn how hair and hairloss can be. EDIT: I shave my hair because I love not having to style it. 😅

this was literally one of biggest "fears" about taking T. i personally dont get concerned about the state of my hair very often in fact i kinda buzz cut it most of the time every 2 weeks bcuz hair is annoying but i dont want to feel the effects of balding IMIEDIATLY because i still want to have fun and wear it with many styles before it fading away... my family doesnt have super bad balding but it still to the point where they start to feel a bit insecure about their hair being thinner. but man does seeing people post their like post 5 year journeys make me wish so bad i was on it too. i dont know maybe once it starts happening ill just embrace the full bald and just pick out of a few wigs. would make it a lot easier to cosplay! and taking care of hair is annoying... side note: you look soooo good youre a total inspiration for my little ftm self 😭

Hey Alex, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I'm a cis guy now in my 40s, and lucky that my hair is thick and very little sign of hair loss as yet (although I started greying in my late 20s). I've always felt that I will just accept it when it happens, and probably fully shave my head when I think it starts to look thin - but I really can't foresee what I'll think at the time! There are so many sexy bald guys in the world, so you're keeping some excellent company 😊 Baldness looks great on you (especially in combination with the beard), so I'm pleased you're learning to enjoy it!

It looks really good on you! :) and it doesn’t make you older. I think, as kids/teenagers we underestimate how early hair loss starts for guys. And that you don’t automatically look like 40. ;) I‘m really scared of hair loss because I am on T for 2.5 years now and I still get misgendered all the time. Once I would pass, I think I could much more easily accept it but if it would happen now, I think, I‘d go off T because it’s not giving me much anyways as of now. Then again, dysphoria-wise, I probably wouldn‘t. 🙈

insane how I've gone from watching you when I was 13 and a newly out trans guy to seeing you in my recommended at 22 and 1 year, 7 months on T. going bald is definitely a big concern of mine but similarly to you, I would rather be bald and on T than have a full head of hair and not on T

Thank you for being vulnerable and talking about it, Alex. I'm over 4 years on T and I've been losing hair little by little each year. But this year specifically I'm losing more compared to how it used to be before. Can't deny that I'm scared of getting bald before my 30's too... You're bringing me courage and hope to see what my future will be. Male pattern baldness is present in both sides of my family, so like you said: I knew it was going to happen eventually, but I didn't expect to be so early. I'd love to hear about your pros and cons in using the "male wig" bc that will probably be my 1st shot once my hair starts to look weird. And also, have you discussed about finasteride with your doctor? I heard that trans man on T couldn't use them because it can block the overall effects from T, but it also seems to do wonders for hair loss. It's something I'd like to try, but in case that means to have blood week back and rounder shape, I prefer to go bald rather than go through tall this BS again

Hey Alex, It's crazy... I follow you since the very beginning of your KZfaq videos. Through you I finally found someone who seemed to have the same questions about sexuality and identity as me. I started T one year before you... And started losing my hear one year before you did. You started a career in graphic design and I am starting UI/UX design. I am so glad you could accept your baldness. There are so many benefits. No wet annoying hair. No need to "style", its always perfect. ✨ No need to pay for hair cuts. Your're done after showering in a sec lol. You decide when to shave. 2 AM? no problem, you just do it yourself 🤣👍 Lets see when the next thing happens in both our lifes... A house? Marriage? Dunno 🤣 Im glad youre doing fine and I will always keep watching your videos Alex! 😁😊

Omg this thank you so much for this video. Honestly loosing my hair is the only part of transitioning that I'm scared of, I'ts the only reson why I'M not yet on T and I will not let it hold me back anny longer. I am absolutly shure that I will be bald and that rather sooner than laterr. My fathers hair startet thining visibly once he was 23 and I know my genetics regarding hair I have from him. As a baby I took a realy long time to grow hair and my hairline never was read as feminin and I now (pre T) alredy have a hairline further back than the picture of yourself you showed at 0:30. Now dont get me wrong I like my hairline right now. It is literaly the only thing I like about my body and the single one part of me that actualy looks like me. My Preferd haircut is somewhere between a 6mm buzzcut and liberty spikes and right now I'm growing my hair out so I can expirience that last one at least for some time. It still makes me Incredably sad that I get robbed of having that but I still feel so much better having heard of you. It feels good to know I'm not alone out there. and a big thanks too to the coment section... I've never felt so understood with this issue

I knew I was going to go bald going on T and I eventually did after 5 years on T. I shave my head/ buzz cut it but I also recently bought a full on men's wig recently and I absolutely love it so when I leave the house I wear the wig but at home alone I typically dont bother. My dad who is bald used to wear a toupee when he went to work.

some men can pull the bald look off and some don't. You're one of the lucky one. It really looks good on you. I'm older have had a hair transplant in the past and it looked really good. Run the clock forward 25 years and I lost alot of the hair I had before the transplant so I need t do something. I think I'm going to try a system for a short time and if I don't like that shave it bald. The only problem I have with that is with the scarring from the hair transplant. I'll either have to accept the scarring or have smp to help hide the scar. A video you mig

totally agree with the fear. I'm transfem, and a few months ago I cut off my gorgeous long hair because it was a sensory nightmare, and I was super scared to do it. I didn't recognise myself in the mirror for like a week. in my case, turns out short hair isn't for me, at least like this, but it was good to try something scary.

Hey ! I'm 29 and I'm a trans man on T for 3 years now and I started shaving for more than a year now. At first I felt really lonely because I actually don't have any bald friend around me and I was also surprised since most of the guys in my family have pretty good hair. I really thank you for your video because I feel we do need this conversation in our community and we need to get over just this bunch of preT persons afraid of going bald to start listening to actual bald trans masculine people imo. I got a lot of jokes who are really not funny and also not respectful or politically ok even if it's mocking manhood or whatever. I do agree with you that it's somehow worst to lose hair when you're a trans man because you get the feeling that you never have the right to experience youth as a regular guy. What is also difficult as you said is that we get often through surgeries already so we got to manage how we will be during recovery. I was not having any energy left to go through hair transplant or whatever on top of that. Another stuff which is really difficult imo is that, like others recently on T, I still don't have a full grown up beard (it's getting better hopefully but still have to wait for the moustache) so I felt cursed because I couldn't just embrace at first the classic blad look with shave head and beard. Anyway now I'm feeling confident even if I find it annoying to shave and I still hate silly jokes but I'm vocal about it hehe. Really enjoy your video ✨ Take care!

i have basically the same story story but i havent tried a hair system, ive considered it and and surgery. i have to shave every other day because the sides and back of my hair grows thicker and faster (whoever said bald is low maintenance is lying). bald looks good especially now that i grow decent facial hair, but i do think ill do something like a hair system/transplant because my hair was a big part of me, i used to do so much with it before i lost it. i use my multitude of hairstyles to determine certain times in my life 😆 i also sometimes got a little bit upset at the jokes but my favourite would be when i shaved my beard for a costume and all week i was called Lord Baldemort 😂

been on t for 12 years and I'm also seeing signs of balding. Granted, I can largely hide it with hair fibers atm, I know I'll be shaving it some day, I'm hoping I can make it a couple more years to 30 before it's bad enough to need to Having said that really glad you made this. I think it's important to see that, while worry over hair loss is normal for any man, it's not the end of the world. Honestly, once I get the guts to shave it all off I'm actually kinda excited about the idea. I think I'd look great without hair ngl

I've felt male since I was 3 or 4, its been a long time for me knowing I am trans, but due to personal circumstances I haven't been able to take T yet (I have had top surgery tho). The fear of baldness, (along with pain from atrophy or not passing) were the only negative changes I worried about, however I shaved my head (as a "female" from long) & it felt so amazing, so freeing, so liberating, so much easier in day to day life, that actually I loved it & going bald is no longer a worry for me at all.
