Normally I hate Street interview content because it always feels like it's being manipulated somehow to spin a narrative (almost always conservative supporting one) but this is SO good. This year there was a heightened concern about safety at all Pride events. Homophobes, some armed, were out there and had all intentions to commit a violent hate crime. It is a very serious trend now.

Uploader (as a Gay Black man myself) I want to thank you for taking one for our team and letting these bigots badger you. I wish they would stick to preaching at their church/congregation/churchhouse/church grounds/religious sanctum, and not disrupt people trying to have a good time at events. Although sadly due to free speech/street ministry laws we have here in the United States, they aren't gonna go away and leave. Even more sad is that rarely they do manage to brainwash/recruit people into their group, some of them remarkably having testimony/being ex-LGBTQ themselves even (so they can use the "I used to be just like you" argument, which they don't really say until they reeled you in and invite you to their group and yeah lol). But yeah unless you feel like trolling/counter debating them, it's best to just ignore these people. But thank you. :)

I was participating in a mural festival designed to elevate women and nonbinary people. There were a lot of different vendors and performers, and a good portion of them were queer. We had anti gay protestors outside of the festival, and a few came into the festival with their signs. I remember this one lady called all the beautiful art that had been painted ugly and a disgrace to God. It just makes me sad that some people choose to be so hateful and negative when they could’ve used that energy enjoying the festivities.

The insanity and brainwashing of these people is so disturbing. My husband and I broke away from our Christian fundie upbringing and never thought how harmful our worldview was until we escaped it. I want to learn to be a better ally and push back against the homophobia in my own family. I’ve been sheltered by my own privilege for too long

Nobody will ever fully agree with you in life but having conversations and working out our differences are what we really need as a society. We, as people, no matter what affiliations and beliefs we all hold need to seek peace with one another. Sadly in every circle you'll have belligerent people. Life, in retrospect is too short to occupy yourself with hate. Stay safe out there. At the end of the day we're all human.
