The "frige" hive resembles a Layens style top bar hive. Great stuff, definitely a chore to move. A bee's brain has about 1 million neurons, the human brain contains about a 100 billion neurons.

I cut a section of canvas to the size of the top of my hive and lay it on top of the frames. It works very well as an inner cover. The bees add and remove propolis to the cloth as they see fit to adjust airflow and when I want to access the hive I just peel the cloth back and there is absolutely no banging of wood inner covers to irritate the bees. Give it a try.

check out my fridge hive, its upright. 4 x 9frames + 4 of 1/2. rear hole for ventilation if needed but usually cooler than outside.

I know this is old and its probably a silly question, but how does this hive differ from the "traditional" hives you keep in the rest of your apiary? What makes a top bar hive a top bar hive, I guess.
