Totally agree that it does matter to pay attention to direction of directional fabrics! I was watching another very experienced lady doing her tutorial and she used a definite directional fabric and didn’t pay attention to the directions the pieces were going when she sewed it! It was driving me crazy!!! If I could have reached through that video….😱😱😱😱!

I have to say that this is the best explanation of what a on-point quilt is and how to make it any size you want. I particularly like the visual explanation of how to cut the setting triangles and yes I totally agree with cutting them bigger so you can trim down the excess if needs be. In fact that aspect of "tidying up " the sides before quilting is the only thing missing from the video. Thank you for such clear instructions . I shall save this to remind me of the steps when I get round to it on my to do list. Thank you.

Thanks so much, Maureen! Funny you mention trimming the sides. With the larger side triangles, I had more fabric around the edges. At the time I couldn't decide if I wanted to trim to the points or add a bit more fabric. I'll actually be finishing this in the next few weeks and will be sure to show it. Sure appreciate you following along! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

You had me at "Log Cabin" and "Stunning"! I'm in love with the way you join your strips on the diagonal because it adds a bit more interest. But I especially enjoyed the great tips for making the on-point which admittedly I haven't done. Thanks for another great tutorial. 🥰

I'm pausing midway to say I love the narrower accent strip and the method of two rulers in the centre unit. Great ideas!

Thanks so much, Lynn! In addition to adding a bit more color, accent fabrics really make a quilt more vibrant. Using double rulers provide more accuracy when you really need it, as in these blocks. It also saves time trying to line up the center of the block with the grid. Glad you enjoy my tutorial! Thanks for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Love this quilt, it's beautiful!!! You could get your little hearts on your corner triangles to all go in the same direction by cutting the diagonal lines in a single layer, in opposite directions. In other words, lay the squares side by side and cut the diagonals to make a V shape.

I too have made several diagonal set quilts, the last 2 from patterns that simply cut a block in half. What a BAD way to do that- every inch of the outside edge is on the bias, even both sides of the corner! This makes so much more sense, to have straight of grain edges throughout. BTW, having that longer hypotenuse edge allows the blocks to ‘float’ out, preserving your points before adding a border or just a binding. Having that extra 1/2” allowance makes all the difference. Thx, LL.
