In that it's a projector and has way more discs, yes, but in terms of quality I'd say no, the FX for me is the better option.

Yes, they just said that's correct. Didn't give any indication that was going to change. Very odd.

From what I know, the brighter the projected (20w for this vs 5w), the hotter and more UV light goes through the disc, and the colors will get washed out more quickly. That's probably why they're all b/w, while Dark Skys don't offer colored discs for the FX for the same reason.

It does have a fan, it's not loud but you can definitely hear it when close in a still room. It also has way more ventilation ducts than the DS-1 which only has one small vent at the end of the tube. This thing has a similar size vent at the bottom and then two very large vents on either side. It has significantly better cooling ventilation compared to the DS-1. I recently bought one on amazon (on sale now for $120) and for another $30 got a 4 year protection plan that not only covers defects, but also accidental damage with full replacement (free shipping) or a full refund, for four years! All for $150, I have tried several projectors including Dark skys models, and in many ways this thing blows away the DS-1 nevermind the FX. And for the price with the amazon protection plan, you can't go wrong.

Ok, I bought one. I have a monolithic dome house with 18 ft white stucco ceilings. The projector is sitting on a 30 in high table. The provided disk projects very well even with 8 60w led bulbs in sconces at 9 ft lighting the kitchen. Yes I bought the warranty. I have another disk coming. It sets the atmosphere perfectly. The moon looks very good. The stars, just ok.

@@doclees11 The slide it comes with is not great for stars, the Milky way and black hole slide are much better. And the color slide should be out soon.
