Very Informative Video. I have a question, how is an On Load Tap Changer defined thorough its specifications ? For example a Power Transformer would have Technical Specification in Terms of power ratings in KVA or MVA and Voltages on High Voltage Side and Low Voltage Side as 230/13.2 KV and 24/31/37 MVA . Similarly how do you define an OLTC ? Also is it possible to use same OLTC for a Power Transformer of rating specifications 230/115 KVA and 170/238/300 MVA and another Distribution Transformer of Power Rating 230/13.2 KV and 24/31/37 MVA ? If so, would it not be extremely cost inefficient to use same OLTC for a smaller distribution transformer ? Would be optimum ratings (specifications) of OLTC for both type of Transformers mentioned above ? As a student, I would really appreciate if EEEB Team could help me understand these concepts . Thankyou.

@@EngHanyKamel I will try, please correct me where I am wrong. An OLTC should be specified in terms of 1. Highest Voltage Through Equipment , 2. Maximum Rated Through Current and 3. Transformer Power Rating. Accordingly ; OLTC Type 1 (15 kV, 1500 A, Transformer Rating (10 to 100 MVA ) OLTC Type 2 (26.4 kV, 2000 A, Transformer Rating (100 to 200 MVA) OLTC Type 3 (72.5 kV, 2500 A, Transformer Rating (200 to 300 MVA) These should be some methods to define an OLTC. Although I am not sure of the values. For example would it be possible to configure an OLTC Type 1 and would it be suitable for use in Transformer of Power Rating 230/13.2 KV and 24/31/37 MVA ? Or will we need OLTC Type 3 for this type of transformer as well as 230/115 KVA and 170/238/300 MVA Transformer ? What would be the maximum voltages (spec 1) and rated currents through OLTC used in above two transformers ? From what I see in the video OLTC is a significantly large piece of component. Is it possible to fit Oil Immersed Part of an OLTC designed for a 300 MVA Transformer inside the Tank of a 40 MVA Transformer. Or is there significant difference in dimensions of OLTC made for these two type of transformers ? Thankyou.

The tap changer should be installed on the HV side because of lower current and accordingly lower arcing energy for arc interruption during tap changing, so please update
