The prime matrix causes massive depression. Optimus tried to sacrifice himself constantly. Rodimus tried to pass the matrix off.

Big mistake on Optimus' part but pretty in-character for him to show mercy to someone who doesn't deserve it, and my personal head canon as to why Hot Rod didn't just shoot Megs was because he was low on energon since he had to shoot down the Ark all by himself (which if he hadn't done everyone would've been FUCKED so I say give the guy a little credit he single handedly made an instant guaranteed loss be at least a low odds battle)

I can't recall as a kid being upset at Hot Rod for Prime's death. I mean, he was just trying to help. We can all identify with that. And, it's really hard to, "Get out of the way" when Megatron has you in a headlock. I more blamed Hasbro and their need to sell new toys for the death of Optimus Prime. Lets be real, eh? :P

That would have distracted Optimus, causing nothing to change, Hot Rod was low on Energon so he couldn't have shot the gun out of Megatron's hands, and when Megatron was holding Hit Rod, Optimus could have easily shot Megatron

*Hot Rod didn't get Optimus killed.* Before Hot Rod came in, Megatron had the element of surprise. Optimus Prime had so much time to fire (when he said, "Out of the way, Hot Rod") _because_ Hot Rod intervened; Optimus would not have had that time to aim if Megatron fully capitalized on his element of surprise.

Devil May Clarify it’s the truth. We have intelligent life here. Hot Rod is being framed. Optimus Prime got himself killed along with 15 of the OG autobots are dead under Optimus Prime command. No one complains about Optimus Prime poor leadership. And Rodimus Prime was a better leader because he got better results in his 7 yrs of leadership compared to Optimus Prime 8 million years of leadership. Not to mention after his return to leadership after Optimus Prime resurrection he got half the autobot fleet dead after the 3 part story of “Rebirth.”

Hot Rod had good intentions to be honest, but yet you can tell it was so obviously scripted to make him a distraction.. If Hot Rod was a real character with common sense, he would have blasted the gun into pieces with his forearm blasters, thereby alerting Prime to the situation, who most probably would have ended it once and for all.

I know a 2 year old Jobby comment section isn’t the place for an essay but, I love Hot Rod. To me he is what it feels like to grow up (at least in the 1986 movie) you suddenly reach an age where you feel grown up, but then you make some pretty big mistakes and start feeling like you aren’t good enough, but if you have the right people in your life you find your path and begin to grow for real. At least that’s how I feel.

I was never a big fan of hotrod as a character but I do like his car mode. From what I've heard, this MP hotrod is the one to get if you want one. Original Rodimus had paint that would chip on the V fin and breakable bits on the legs.

Looks like you had a lot fun throwing figures at hot rod. I'd be too much of a chicken to do that to one of my toys but I have to admit this gag had me laughing. This was another great review. Keep up the good work!

It is funny that all of the features (minus the fishing rod) on this are included in the SS-86 figure and that one has a much better backpack (in my opinion)

Update now that I own one (the KO but w/e). If you have issues with his shoulders being set too wide, I recommend pushing in his side fenders *after* his shoulders are locked in. They won't lock in anymore, but that hinge is tight enough to sit on top of them without moving, and it greatly improves his upper torso proportions and edges him closer to his line art. There *can* be a clearance issue if you aren't careful with the arms, but I don't think it's kid-glove worthy of an issue. Also, he *is* slightly undersized...simply to allow him to fit inside MP-10's trailer. Yes. That's the actual reason.

Hello, a guy from the future here, this video really made me realize how the new studio series 86 Hot rod truly is a nerfed down/ upgraded in some ways version of the masterpiece. It has pretty much all the same accessories and features!
