I heard it was due to the 2008 writers' strike. they anticipated it by getting the writers to make an outline before they went on strike, but it still made us end up with... this. also that same strike likely caused the amount of reality TV we have now...

@@TokuWaffle well reality TV was very much a thing before the strike. Although it was mostly in the form of dating shows. I was such a dating show junkie and there were so many, it was wild. Survivor and Big Brother were very much already established and many reality show competition shows follow their format. I even think the family type shows were popular with The Osbornes and such. Even before all that, there was The Real World on MTV. Ok, that was kinda a rabbit hole I went down and I didn't mean to and all I really wanted to say was that yes, some more reality shows probably came out of the strike but more so the strike was responsible for killing lots of shows, most notably (for me), Heroes. That was... unfortunate.

Much like the _Resident Evil 5_ song, "Sad But True" basically sums it up. They're both terrible live-action movie series that basically desecrate their source material, but at least the _RE_ series seemed to *try* to care about various characters it took from the games up until the sixth & final movie. It even screwed over fewer of them (until the sixth & final movie) and gave some of them protagonist focus despite its original main character being an unbeatable Mary Sue after the first movie. The _RE_ live-action movies also didn't reveal their director's creepy and otherwise demeaning thoughts, just proved that Anderson loves his wife while beating us over the head with that fact as she killed everything on-screen. I still feel like I could watch any of the _RE_ movies except for the third or sixth & final one in the background and at least laugh at the dumb bits while occasionally glimpsing something that could have had potential if Alice wasn't so fucking overpowered. Meanwhile, seeing any one of the Bayformers movies even once just seems like asking to suffer, and I am never going to watch the Mark Wahlberg ones unless something literally paid me a lot of money.

@@j.r.1704 Okay like non-comedic tone here just for information: there’s a whole Transformers comic license yes (Marvel had it, then a smaller indie company called dream wave, now it’s run by IDW) Just like there’s comics for Power Rangers, Sonic, TMNT (which started out as a comic), GI Joes,… They have their own continuity (which got a reboot recently) and are quite obviously a lot, LOT better than this shit. (Mainly because humans don’t factor in nearly as much, if at all in the later years where it’s basically just Transformers space stories) But yes, the movies also got tie-in comics mandated from IDW, so there’s comics meant to fill in the narrative gaps of the films. The films are basically Swiss cheese so there’s a LOT of margin to expand lore and fill in the gaps.. hell the comics have more character development and interesting lore than the movies ever could. Even the adaptations of damn movie (like the 1 to 1 retelling) is better than the movie and removes all the horny / cringe jokes and military fetish. (They’re still there but it ain’t propaganda anymore) Of course these comics get massively retconned every time Michael Bay decides to make another fuckin movie completely shitting on the continuity and leaving a team of (not joking here) 7 actually capable story tellers/authors trying to actually give all the continuity meaning and cohesion. While I got your attention and if you read this far, I genuinely recommend the IDW comics from a few years back. There was a series called More Than Meets the Eye. It’s a space adventure series featuring a bunch of Transformers after the war, going on a space quest. It’s fun, has a lot of suspenseful moments, an awesome horror-thriller edge to a few moments, amazing and actually endearing characters and character moments. It’s literally the furthest thing from the Bay movies. I just hate that Bay has devolved this franchise into such a dumb thing in the eyes of many when it actually has a lot of potential and some really genuinely good pieces of sci fi media out there.

It may have been the most disappointing part of all the Transformers movies for me.

My only problem with the Dinobots is that they weren’t used very well after Age of Extinction. Other than that, they looked badass. Michael Bay’s Grimlock is one of my favorite versions, in design. Number one will always be Fall of Cybertron’s Grimlock for me.

There was only four of them I really wished the velociraptor that had skittle and M&M color appeared at least.
