The japanese pretender premise make so much more sense. It almost feels like a full evolution of transformers. Using Mass shifting and Bio-techology to literally become robots in disguise.

The way I see it, the Autobots use the Japanese version. Cybertronian-human relations and all that. The Decepticons use the American version. Big scary powerful bio-armor

My issue was never the idea itself, Pretenders are conceptually cool but whether it be the American or Japanese take, the Pretender shells just look utterly ridiculous

The concept of the Autobot Pretenders infiltrating and defending humanity would fit incredibly well with Transformers Animated. Especially since Sari feels like a character that takes direct inspiration from the Pretenders.

@@matthew_natividad Well, It's almost like the show was getting canned, even though they had more stories to tell/loopholes to tie, so they used Season 3, (Which would of acted more of an "End Chapter" rather than a Finale Ending), as a series Finale. We were, however, greatly fortunate enough to return to the world of Animated with stuff like Stunticon Job, Return of Blurr and Trial of Megatron.

Oddly enough, the first time I saw Metalhawk was the original toy. I came from a military family and grew up on a Navy base. My neighbor and good friend was born on Atsugi Naval Air Base in Japan, so his family had alot of Japanese swag when they transferred back to the States. When we first met, we bonded over the differences in our respective stashes of action figures.

Extremely obscure fun fact: There's an old issue of the Marvel UK TF comic where a young reader from Malaysia who was watching the English dub of Masterforce mails in to ask about Metalhawk and why the show's Pretenders are different from the comics, a question that letter answerer Dreadwind wrote off, not knowing what he was referring to. That has to be the first time a piece of Western TF fiction ever referenced a Japanese one, albeit inadvertently.

For some reason, the Japanese side of Transformers has the cooler way of portraying the concepts of the Pretenders, Headmasters, etc. I respect those who enjoy the western concepts, but the Japanese version is less complicated (smaller robot controlling a mecha body, shape-shifting) and are more practical (not needing to worry about the pretender shell being injured and causing a mental link injury)

It's humoring that in Prime Wars; Metalhawk get two set of toys, one based on his inner robots and second based on his Pretender. I happen to have Metlahawk's Power of the Primes toy, but man am I looking forward to see and score his Legacy toy.

Despite how different the Masterforce anime is, I think it's really dope honestly. The Pretender concept really shined here especially the Decepticons. Autobots disguising themselves as humans while the Cons use their monstrous forms to terrorize the humans was a cool concept. I'll definitely pick up Metalhawk's legacy toy eventually. Also that japanese commercial in the beginning was absolutely🔥🔥!

The 2023 retooled toy from Cyclonus was a surprisingly good stroke of genius. Just find it funny that if that series is part of G1 they never showed themselves during the time Optimus and Megatron were running around on earth.

That's because it takes place post movie, and after all the stuff in headmasters. When masterforcs takes place galvatron is stuck in a glacier, and the main autobots aren't really on earth anymore because they're fighting out in space where that battle is getting worse. (For reference, masterforce takes place about 10 years after the headmasters and the end of s3 of the original cartoon)

Ill be honest, i think japans approach to pretenders was better. It strangly makes more sence to have robots into human costums when they could already transform to hide in plain sight.

I do like the recent approach, (Well, as far back as... Stormbringer/ROTF Bludgeon), how they've been handling the Pretenders with just straight up going "F*ck it, combine the two designs into one." But as for the more "Human" Pretenders, I like Japan's take.

Metalhawk is one of my favorite characters, though I didn't know of him until watching Masterforce. I always welcome new toys of him whenever they appear. It would be nice if Hasbro used their R.E.D. line to make a figure of his armored human form.

Love the new toys of Metalhawk since he was kind of a legend in G1 back in the 80's. Diecast was only whispered back then and I made sure that if he was redone later on that I would get them all. Great video giving us more backstory on this popular character.

How cool would it be to combine the whole Japanese version of Pretenders with the Highlander mythos- these Pretenders have been living among normal human beings for generations, guiding the development of the human race, having battles with each other etc. Was there plenty of that in the Masterforce series? I have yet to watch it.

I encountered Metalhawk from what little I was able to see of MasterForce. When shout! Factory released the series on DVD, I got them all. That's where I got to know more about Metalhawk and whatnot. When he was given the toy treatment for BotCon, then Titans Return, Power of the Primes & Legacy, I thought that was pretty sweet. It's interesting how Hasbro's Legacy toyline goes across every TransFormers universe.

I love so much MASTERFORCE and VICTORY and I wish these character were used with a LOT MORE CARE.....what IDW did to Starsaber and now MetalHawk, are no way to treat these amazing heroes from that awesome anime, I will love to see that TFA version of Metalhawk, I feel they probably would have treat him better.

It's the curse of these kind of characters. Aside from the botcon toy, the guy only got the original toy, the little potp guy, and that triggerhappy recolor that just wasn't it. The new toy is an high quality remold, but still 'just' a remold

Japan handled Pretenders alot better. The Marvel comic had the Autobots try to blend with earthlings as 25-foot tall humans. Yeah, that didn't work

When I was finally able to see the four Japanese generation one transformers series (Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory and Zone.) Masterforce and Victory quickly became my favorites and Metalhawk was my favorite character of the Masterforce series.

Due to the way the Masterforce cartoon worked, the "Vector Prime" Primemaster can act as a stand in for his "Human" and armored forms, while the Legacy Evo figure can represent the mass shifted robot and jet modes. I wonder if there'd be a way to mod him to make his cockpit hold a titanmaster bot..

Not having access in the internet in the early 2000s. My first encounter with Metal Hawk was through a Japanese G1 Transformers collectors guidebook by A.E. Alvarez. That I picked up in a comicbook store in Aberdeen. From that I discovered Metal Hawk and made up my mind I wanted one in my collection. Then a few years later I had the chance to bid on one of the Japanese G1 figures. I went in and dashed at the last minute, it slipped through my figures. So the years pass by and with news of a Legacy Metal Hawk being released. I knew this was the time and know have the figure displayed along side my other Japanese influence Generations Transformers. Makes a good pairing with the Haslab Victory Saber.

The first time I saw metalhawk, it was when the comics in 2015 or so when they released the toys along with them. I'm pretty sure it was prowl that I got that exact comic with metal, I can't remember exactly which figure. But that was the first comic that I had ever seen metalhawk. I never knew that he was created back in the 1980s, I thought he was just an exclusive character for the comics. But good to know his origins.

Metalhawk, Cyclonus’ cousin! Also like other people, I don’t know why, I just have a feeling the masterforce/Japanese version of the story behind his toy better. Same for headmasters. I also feel the cyberverse version could have done much more and so could the Animated version, but, Wyatt’s gone. But of course I like it when pretenders are not mentioned in my opinion like his western debut. However instead of a retool his titans return was just a straight up redeco…. And when I bought the vector prime potp I threw away the card (lol) so I had to discover myself that it eerily resembled metalhawk’s original pretender shell. The fact that it could also turn into a blaster was also discovered by me, myself.

Metalhawwwwk, I couldn’t resist, and I watched the rhodium’s primal video on this character yesterday, and I enjoyed that too, and I watched a KZfaq video of the masterforce cartoon where this character is in it, except it’s not in English, so I just watched it on mute, and I have read the transformers wiki on this guy also.

Hello there. I have catch a few recent videos from your channel and I have to say that this video on Metal Hawk was absolutely amazing. I remember buying the DVDS of the Pretenders - God Masters series and thought that the character of Metal Hawk was incredibly interesting. I am glad to see that we finally have great figure of this character and hopefully we can see him and others get introduced to the Transformers film franchise.

Animated no joke wanted to have the largest cast in the franchise's history. There's sketches of every single transformers ever made. Even the nichest of niche characters.

I found out about Metalhawk from the Legacy Evoltuion Voyager Class figure. I picked him up at Target a week ago because I thought he looked cool. So it's nice to get an info dump on the character.

The Transformers anime did have an English dub and was broadcast on Star TV. Power Master series wasn't too terrible. For some strange reason used the Victory opening.

I first encountered Metalhawk in the IDW comics. I really didn't like him much, though I did feel sorry for him when Scream blew him away. "That's the thing about opportunists ... never show us opportunities." *blam*

The Titans Return Metalhawk toy had a missed opportunity to name the Titanmaster partner Hawk, after his Human disguise form.

Metalhawk has been a favorite of mine for a while, not totally sure why, especially for a character we didn't get in the states for years. The Masterforce story of the Pretenders shrinking down and all is brilliant and really makes for a better story.

In my school, vr game metalhawk made an appearance as a human, and the biggest moment is after the djd/Goalius boss fight (if your Goalius you fight the djd, but if your nickel you fight Goalius) where he gave apexa a new bionic arm after tesarus ripped it to shreeds but was killed by shattered glass singularity torch talon now known as empress death talon
