Transformers without their helmets. Did you know that most of the Transformers wear helmets in the movies? Yeah, whenever we see these metalic beings convert from car to robot. We usually just think that everything on them is just a part of their bodies. We never really question what could be the shirt, pants, or hat.

Well in DOTM he's shown to have a chunk of his head missing like he's got brain damage or something. Sometimes he covers it with a hood and when it's exposed we can see insecticons feeding on the wound like it's gone rotten and infected. Pretty sure that was part of his actual head and not a removable helmet.

I think Optimus doesn't have a helmet but it's actually apart of his head in his case, since the side of his head falls off and we see his insides.

pretty sure it was revealed some time ago the basic transformers have 3 types of metal to them, the basic skeletal structure that is the hardest part of them and the most durable the over-armor structure that must be fixed by medical transformers and the shell that is can be healed but is easily damaged.

In most cases I think of them like finger nails or hair for them, in the sense where It’s not really a part of their “flesh”, but it’s also not a worn accessory either. It looked pretty painful when megatron beat sentinel’s “scalp” off, and it never felt like just armor. I definitely consider it a part of them most of the time.

I think a great analogy would be rhino horns. They’re made of keratin, and although an integral part of their body, don’t bleed that much when cut off.

I love the idea with Sentinel and Optimus, of the primes having that certain looking helmet with the big antenna things like it’s a crown symbolizing their status. A real good way to visually distinguish primes from all the other cybertronians.

Hmm i dont think thats it for prime .i never dived into the specifics so this is my unreasonable opinion ...i think optimus primes is legit attached or part of his head... when he loses a piece it seems he bleeds and the antennas might actually be for communication electronics etc

The best handling of the whole body/clothes thing I ever ran across was in a House M.D./Transformers 2007 fanfic of all things. Without going into the plot, Ratchet described cybertronian bodies as having a malleable metal covering over their protoforms. The metal was like clothes or dead skin cells - there to protect and cover - and the protoform was the actual complex substance that made Cybertronians alive and required medical care. It's not official, but it always went the farthest in explaining how transformers in the 2007 continuity could have bits fall off or change completely without any real effect on the transformer itself. The outermost parts are just something extruded by the inner parts, and like skin can be shed and replaced.

In some case like hound and that guard transformers is a helmet but I think for others is just their skin. Fallen is basically his entire face skin being rip, sentinel got his brain exposed. That's why I always see blackout as a half naked because how his lower half doesn't had any armor/skin

I think some of their helmets and body armor are detachable, while some of it is actually built into their body and can’t come off. Think of it as a turtle shell. It’s a form of armor that cannot be removed without causing injury.

Neither Sentinel nor the Fallen were wearing masks/helmets. Optimus literally ripped the Fallen's face off and Megatron scalped Sentinel. It's never even hinted at that those parts were supposed to be removable. Hound was the first time we saw a live action cybertronian with a helmet that was actually removable. And not just a permanent part of the character's body.

I think that they are all naked and every part of them is attached to them and any resemblance to clothes, armor or accesories is just a coincidence and also that since they are inorganic, their entire bodies can be considered those exact things.

In Transformers Animated it's established that some Cybertronians are wearing helmets as well. Bumblebee and Wasp are both shown without helmets in a one episode and later on that season Blackarachnia is shown without her helmet though in her case it's revealed that it was to cover up her rather spidery looking head underneath it.

I think that everything is attached on to their body in some way and that they already come with armour. I think that the armour they already have covering their main body is what copies the actual looks of the vehicle they want to copy.

I would argue that for Optimus, sentinel, and a few others, while they do have a “helmet” of sorts, it is built into their physiology. When Megatron kicks sentinal, the casing for his brains seems to come off with the helmet, indicating that it may have been attached. Which leaves the horrific implication that megatron basically kicked the top part of sentinal’s skull off.

I think hound is something of an exception. Considering that underneath both hounds and sentinels “helmets” there’s very delicate looking hardware, I’d wager that those caps are simply dermal plating. Basically their skin/skulls. Its not SUPPOSED to come off easily. You can see how hard The Fallen and Sentinel had to get hit for their caps to come off. I think hounds “hat” is a previous injury where his cranial plate got knocked off and since they don’t heal like biological organisms do, he just puts it back on with some straps to hold it in place.

Its not just in movies. In IDW G1 comics, Megatron took off his helmet once and he have ‘hair.’ In Animated, Blackarachnia’s helmet/mask is removable, showing her techno-organic spider face. And Bumblebee’s helmet is removable.

It really depends on the continuity in the character. I don’t like when they make it where their key head features turn out to be helmets. It makes more sense when those helmets are actually part of their bodies.
