Considering that today, of all days, I went down a rabbit hole of the Fallout 3 soundtrack, this man's voice feels like a warm hug from Three Dog (the Fallout 3 DJ for Galaxy News Radio), and I couldn't stop smiling. I don't know if I'm onto something with that train of thought, but I could just imagine Three Dog saying something like this, followed by 'Fight the Good Fight' and it truly warms my heart. I came here from numerous impressive shorts, but I'm staying for the message. Thank you GP for such a beautiful, relevant, and kind message. I look forward to what's to come. :)

Lovely, true words. Thank you. Writing on paper is a great way to calm one's self to the point of being able to rationally think things through and choose the kinder path. When I was so much younger than today, I would sometimes go through several drafts of missives until I was able to write kind words to deliver. Now, with computers, it is so easy to write a message that may be hurtful and press send without thinking, thereby escalating a situation. Better to take time to gather one's self. I remember telling someone I was not in a proper frame of mind to reply to something that enraged me at the time. I asked for time to think so I could reply fairly. That cooling-off time allowed me to respond from a place of kindness and understanding. Responding with kindness and compassion is a skill that has to be developed; especially if one was not raised in an environment of safety to allow for such expression.

Thank you for sharing your reflections and experiences. It's a powerful reminder of the value of patience and thoughtful communication. Similar to you, I will write several "drafts" shall we say, getting all the frustration out of me (that's key) before proceeding in a calmer manner to writing OR speaking the final draft. Taking the time to pause, reflect, and choose our words wisely can indeed transform our interactions into opportunities for understanding and kindness. Your practice of seeking a cool-off period before responding is a testament to the strength and wisdom in choosing compassion over haste. It's an important skill, and your journey to cultivate it is inspiring. Keep spreading this message of kindness; the world needs more of it. 😊

I chose kindness over anger for a year or more by now and it makes a huge difference, most of the problems completely vanish and with kind words most of the upcoming discussions don‘t even get so big. Thank You for charing this with us, I think it might help some or even many people. Thank You for Wisdom from the Porch in general, it is really helpful and I can‘t do otherwise than agree with you on all the topics so far. Have a great day, everyone, and stay kind!

My initial response is negativity. I find it so hard to not just snap. But I have to admit when I am able to slow it down and respond in a less volatile manner things do get easier. So thank you. Thank you for your words of wisdom, they are appreciated.

This is a hard one. Didn't use to be. Today's bullies who are the first to invoke "kindness" and "tolerance" yet they deal with you in the most vile and hateful ways if you do not automatically agree with them and bow down to their values and views. They are authoritarian pretending to fight for some underdog oppressed identity group. They are expecting for you to be kind while you turn over and just let them abuse you and your values. Kindness also is used as social lubricant to make things go easy when it is inauthentic and a way to just have people leave you alone and go away. Kindness and genuine empathy are good things, transformative, and therapeutic even. The problem is our bullies today have weaponized empathy so how do you teach people the difference between the genuine and the social bullies picking on those who are are socially weaker?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It’s clear that the misuse of ideals like kindness and tolerance in discourse, especially online, is concerning. Recognizing the difference between genuine empathy and its insincere counterpart is crucial. I believe that showing true kindness and empathy in our interactions to inspire others is the path forward. Remember, authentic connections resonate more deeply and can't be mimicked. By doing so, we contribute to a culture that values and distinguishes real empathy from its weaponized form. Maintaining respectful dialogue, even amidst disagreement, is vital. It's about standing firm in our values while engaging openly, not tolerating abuse but promoting genuine conversation. Encouraging critical thinking and emotional intelligence can also help people recognize and value the authenticity of our interactions. In the end...let's not lose faith in the power of true kindness and empathy. They are crucial for a healthier discourse and community. Your perspective adds valuable depth to this conversation. Hopefully, more discussions like this will push us towards a sincerely kinder interaction space.👊🏾
