Ford Transit Where and Why they RUST.. Repair and Prevent Rust.
In this video i repair the common rust behind the rear wheels..

Great vid , I got told before you isolate & your inside panel are off , pouring oil WD40 inside pael so it swills around helps save the internal rust coming through , KEEP WELL& SAFE FELLA !✊💥👍

I've had two of these vans over the years. Sorry mate that won't work. Transits rust in numerous places. You need to cut it out and weld plates in, they rust from the inside and it will be far worse inside. When you cut the rust out then you can inject with something like Dynax. Unfortunately that job is going to rust again in a few months.

Hi Matt.. YES we all know that, I did say in the video that this is only a temp repair so that I could take her to a show.. Complete new sill on it now, its the only way to get rid of it all together.. Thanks for the comment..

On the left side my Jumbo has those vent holes open, but on the other side they are pinched together. Should I open them with screwdriver? And...where is the water coming in, so that it needs to be dripped out there? Thanks

Hi Sean.. Thanks for the comment.. Any colour is better than rust.. Ha.. O a Ford Transit, the colour code is on the vin plate under the bonnet, in my case it's moon dust silver..? Cheers..

problem i found is the rust proof coating on all the interrior of panels was some kind of epoxy which is super strong but over time micro cracks and natural drying of the coating made it brittle and come unstuck letting moisture in to the steel. needs something stronger, the modern method is to use electro deposition which bonds like a weld to the metal

Brilliant video we are just going to look at same model camper van tomorrow...i will be looking at the areas you have shown. Any other tips or what to check for...thanks m8

Hi.. Jumbo's tend to rust just behind the rear wheel arches.. Front driver step. Top of the chassie legs under the bonnet.. The rear spring tend to crack on the top of the rear shackle. other that that its just rust from stone chips, that is just surface normally.. The oil will be black, but check that it is thin as milk, pull dip stick and rub the oil between your fingers to see if it feels gritty, if it is thats bad.. Start the engine and try riding the clutch with the brakes on full to check for slip and high the peddle is from stalling.. And of course if any dash lights are on, they can be expensive to turn off..? Cheers

Hi John.. I would buff out but I am going to do the slam above the windscreen, so I will use the spray gun to do that and then do below the trim line to get a better finish..? Cheer Mate

You really ought to have put some rust converter on before the filler mate. It’ll just keep on rusting under the filler mate. And NO!!, I’m not knocking you or slating your work in ANY way it’s just an observation. Take care. Mark

Great video. Just what ive been looking for. Just on a different subject, how did you fix on your front fog lights?

Hi Bud.. They are the proper Fog lights for the ford transit bumper fog lights (fitted on higher spec vans). Even with a standard transit the bolt holes are there. I think that the early ford focus and mondao ones are the same but you have to move the bolt holes a little.. Depending on the spec of the van, sometimes the wiring is there as well..? If you mean the driving lights in the middle above the number plate. That is a bracket i got off ebay, it is L-shaped and blots in the place of the number plate and then the number plate bolts to it.. it has a small round nudge bar welded across the front of it so no sharp edges.. Remember if you fit any extra lights to a transit, use a relay as the standard wiring is not strong enough.. Bit of a long reply, but hope it helps.. Thanks

nice one kev mines a swb so i dont have that bit but the front wing starting to bubble a bit at bottom near bumper mines a 2001 18 years old not to bad lol

Hi Dave.. It might get some in the back, you only gotta clear the drainage holes to stop it.. That on the front wings is dirt sticking along the seam joint and holding water. Just wire brush the dirt off.. Thanks for the comment..

Hi.. The pink stuff is like an acid the stops rust and turns into a protective coating.. Hope i explained that ok.. cheers

Hi Gavin.. rust on the steps, NO.. rust in rear arch, Yes its back.. remember.? Most rust from the inside outwards as the rear arch has, its a water trap.. when weather warms up, i will put a new panel in.. cheers

Trouble is it will keep coming back and get worse, transits are crap when it comes to rust which is a real shame as they are generally a good van! Nice repair though 👍🏻

Bit of a bodge job... Sorry for the negative comment but really you should have wire brushed/ground back to bare metal. Cut it out if need be and weld a patch in. Then make it look nice...

Hi Bud.. all comments whether good or negative are welcome.. yes I agree.. I am sat in the sun on holiday looking at it as I type this reply, and it needs doing again, but this time it will have a complete new panel.. but the repair was to see how long it would last and the price.. cheers

@@WonderingWomble best of luck with the future repair! Jealous your on holiday during these times. I'm currently dealing with never ending rust on a Transit camper conversion so I feel your pain. Ended up spending 3 weeks solid just removing rust from the inside. Not fun :/

Hi Bud.. I can only show what has gone rusty on my transit..? Yep..? Very rare transit none rusty one..? Not allot of rust on her..? There will be another 2 video's on 2 other places, but that will only down to the weather..

Hi Geoffrey.. We all know they rust from the inside out.. This was just to slow it down and hide it a bit so that it didn't look so bad..? Ho.. YES It has come back, I have the new panel now, just waiting for the weather to fit it.. Thanks for the comment
