The Marriott Marquis in Times Square has possibly the world’s most famous elevators. These elevators are among the most filmed of all time. Famous enthusiasts like DieselDucy, The Elevator Channel, CVE9120 (suzzex), ems318, Ih8escalators, georgef551, and pnwelevator are just a fraction of people who have filmed and uploaded their videos to this website, as over 500,000 videos exist filmed by over 5,000 people on these 16 elevators.
The call buttons for these 16 elevators are not your traditional button. Every single call station has a keypad, to enter your designated floor into, and a dot matrix display, directing you to the elevator car that will take you to your destination the fastest. This is commonly called Destination Dispatch.
Once Schindler’s Miconic 10 controller decides which elevator will take you to your destination the fastest, A light indicating the elevator the controller selected will light up, to guide you to where your elevator will open up. This is alphabetized between A - P.
Cars A - E are high rise scenic elevators, serving floors
1, 3-8, 23, and all floors from 28 - 45. These are the famous ones.
Cars H - L are low rise scenic elevators, serving floors
1, 3-8, and all floors to 27.
Cars M - P are non scenic elevators. They serve floors 1, 3 -8, 23, and all floors from 28 - 45.
Cars F and G are special. They serve The View, a rotating restaurant on top of the hotel. These elevators go nonstop from 3 to 47 or 48.
It has also been rumored that if you push 55 in the dispatcher, Car G will come and take you up. This is a hoax, as Car G only goes as high as 49, a secret floor in itself. Car F also goes up to 49, the only other car to do so.
Installed in 2005, these elevators travel at a whopping 1,000 feet per minute! The non scenic elevators are rumored to travel even faster. Just don’t look down if you are afraid of heights.
