Hey guys welcome to another video of the WPress Doctor. And today we are going to translate your website to make it multilingual. It's going to look something like this: When you have a beautiful drop down menu with all the different languages. And when you click on this one, you get a beautiful translated website. And this is a secret; one language is completely free. And not only that, I'm going to show you how you can translate your SEO titles, meta descriptions and urls. And i'm going to show you how you can change these buttons, so that they work like they should. Anyway it's going to be a fun ride so buckle up get yourself some water, some tea, some coffee, whatever you want. We are starting right now.
At your wordpress dashboard you go to 'Plugins' - 'Add new'. Then we're going to search for the plugin "TranslatePress". Press enter. As you can see TranslatePress has been active for more than 200 000 websites it's very popular. And last update is four days ago. The last update is very important because that tells you if the plugin is still being maintenanced. Press 'Install now'. And after it been installed we press on 'Activate'. There are two ways to go to the settings of TranslatePress. You can scroll down and you can press 'Settings' right here, or you can go to 'Settings' and then we go to 'TranslatePress'. Click on it. Well let's first close this advertising right here. If you want to receive the newsletter you can sign up. We don't want it right now. So let's start with the default language. It is in English and that's right our website is in english. Now we can add our languages we want to translate the website in. I'm going to translate it to Dutch. And press 'add'. If you want to add more languages you will need the pro version. I'm going to show you later on this video how we're going to do that but one language is completely free. So let's start with this one. Here you can choose if you want to show the language name in the native name. So it won't say Dutch but it will say 'Nederlands'. I don't like that I just want the flags up there so we're going to leave it on 'no'. You can use a subdirectory for your languages. I would not advise you to do this for SEP purposes. Just leave this on 'no'. All right if we now scroll down the 'force language in custom links' is is yes it's okay. The language switcher, we have a shortcode, the short code I want to be the flag with full language names. You can change it anytime you want. For the menu item I only want to have flags. Later on this video we're going to add it into our menu, first we're gonna translate it. And the floating language selection we can use the flags with names, and it's dark and it's on the bottom right, you can do whatever you want. I'm gonna turn it off right here, because i don't like the style of this entire thing, I only want to have it in my menu up in the right corner. Press 'save changes'. Wasn't that easy? These are just the options we need to change right now.
Let's go to 'translate site'. If you press this button the translator will be open. How we translate the word of TranslatePress is really amazing. Just hover your mouse over the text you want to Translate. Press on the icon, here you can see from English "Dealing with the"... to Dutch....

Great video as always, Doc! My favorite features of TranslatePress are: Merge tags and the "translation-block" class. The latter allows you to have different length texts of each language but still keeping it all in one wordpress page 🥰

Hello, thank you for the great video. I have a question. I use DIVI and have recipes and blog on my website. I create the posts in Gutenberg editor and the text excerpt shows up at the blogslider. Is it possible to translate the text exerpt in Gutenberg with Translate Press? Because when I go into Gutenberg and click translate page I jump to the theme builder. In this case I have to translate the sliders at every page I use. When I post a new recipe or article I have to go to every page and translate it seperatley. What I need now is a solution to translate the text excerpt and the title in Gutenberg. Thank you very much for your help!
@WPressDoctor
@WPressDoctor 3 ай бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for the question. Yeah you could do just that. Go intro translation mode on the specific page. Then on the left you can also choose to translate “Strings” there… the excerpt should be in there.

Bedankt voor de duidelijke uitleg in de tutorial. Vraagje: ik merk dat na elke wijziging of toevoeging in de Nederlandse tekst (standaard taal), dat dan op de engelse en duitse pagina de reeds vertaalde tekst weer terug springt naar Nederlands. Hoe kan ik dit voorkomen? Nu moet ik steeds weer opnieuw beginnen.
@WPressDoctor
@WPressDoctor Жыл бұрын
Hi Janine, graag gedaan! Dat is vreemd en hoort niet te gebeuren... Normaliter als je de standaard tekst aanpast dan blijf de vertaalde tekst gewoon staan. Wat voor Thema gebruik je?

Hello, how good is the automatic translate option for a WordPress Woocommerce website built with Oxygen with ACF, templates and categories. WPML translate is not compatible with Oxygen...Thank you
@WPressDoctor
@WPressDoctor 6 ай бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for your question. I have absolutely no idea. I found Oxygen to behave very strange in certain cases. I have tried working with Oxygen on a WooCommerce website and my gosh... I needed 2 developers to create everything I wanted... and we ended up after losing a lot of time and money to rebuild the entire thing in another system... insane. So no, I don't know how it will react to TranslatePress. But the good news is, you can try it, the first language is free!!

@@WPressDoctor hi, Doc! Cheers from Argentina. I have two questions. Is there a way that the user ir directed automatically to its language (if he is un USA, then English version first. If he is in France, French version)? Second: I have content that is just for English visitors, so I don’t want that section/content to be shown when the user is in the Spanish version. Is there a way to hide/show sections depending on the language selected? Use case: it’s a Catholic priests congregation, they have “houses” in Argentina (Spanish) and US. When Argentinian is seeing “about us” page I want to show him some specific things, and when the about page is in English (then I assume a US user), i don’t want them to see some specific Argentinian things. Does that make sense? Hope you make it till the end. Sorry for the long text!

@WPressDoctor

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. I would definitely recommend Divi. The learning curve of Oxygen is very steep. Also the newest version of Divi 5.0 is coming and it is a complete remake of the foundations of Divi. It will be super flexible, super fast and in many ways so much better than Divi 4. So yeah I would say stick around, buy the lifetime deal around Black Friday and you are set for life 👍🏻😀

My native language is Chinese, and after translating into English, the text on the English page runs out of the Row, especially in the mobile version, and the text runs out of the footer, so the adjustment version must be adjusted from the Chinese Builder, but then the Chinese page will be affected. Do you know how to use CSS to adjust the English page alone?
