Thanks Jeff. All I lost was stuff. And that stuff was insured. Granted, some of the stuff was irreplaceable, but life goes on. Everything important, ie my family, made it out and that is what I am thankful for. I have food clothing and shelter and am better off than many, especially those who lost their lives. And again, thanks to the first responders who risked their lives and enabled so many of us to make it out. If I wasn’t for them, many, many more of us wouldn’t be here. As it was, It took me 4 hours to get out of town and I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it most of that time. I have a friend who called his wife to say goodbye, hung up so she wouldn’t be on the line when the fire got to him, and started praying. Then, out of nowhere, a fire truck showed up an blasted back the flames. Another family that are friends of mine were in the same place at the same time and were saved by the same fire truck. And let’s not forget all of the men and women who were directing traffic. That took guts to stand there while the town burned.

The NG I was working with were all unarmed. They were working traffic control only. They had to be paired with officers so SOMEBODY had firearms and arrest powers if needed.
