Seems like this train gave an impressively smooth and quiet ride. I remember shuttling back and forth between Huddersfield and Leeds in the 1980s, in rattly old Mk1 coaches, behind a class 45. Mild concussion every time I got off the train. Some great memories along the route here, many thanks for uploading!

I assumed it was because the designer, pre covid, anticipated overcrowding on the Liverpool-Manchester-Leeds section of the route, where standing passengers in the door areas would cause sensors to open and close the doors constantly.

Great coverage of TransPennine's latest offering. My experiences with this operator in first class were of similar standard to yours (minus the flood of course). I travelled from Edinburgh to Carlisle in a refurbished Class 350 and from York to Manchester Victoria in a Class 185. I agree with your sentiments about the livery and interior decor. Very pleasant. Thanks for showing the Canal scenes and the Pennines. Opposite direction to my travel over the same route. Neville Hill had a pair of colourful Class 08 Shunters on display when I went past. We had a number of these on Victorian Railways from 1951 until the early 1980's and at least two survive in preservation. They were our F Class. I see the air was rather bracing at Scarborough the day you travelled. By contrast, my May 22nd was a pleasant, sunny autumn day which I enjoyed at Castlemaine, getting coverage of a Steam Tour and having a picnic in the botanical gardens. Thanks again for your quality production and I look forward to next week's offering. Cheers from Michael downunder in Melbourne.

Great video. I hadn't come across your channel before. Nice to see a UK railway keeping loco haulage and adopting the driving-trailer (or control car) at the opposite end, as frequently used in European railways. Adds a bit of variety and interest and flexibility in making up trains to suit the demand. Personally, I'm with those who like the looks of the Class 68s and the blue/grey TPE livery.

I traveled on these regularly at the end of 2019/early 2020 between Seamer and Manchester or Lea Green, and less frequently since. They are a big improvement in passenger comfort from the old class 185s. No under floor engines, doors at the ends will proper vestibules, means no more 'thermal cycling' of passengers in hot or cold weather and more seats, which were badly needed. However they have been unreliable, and the noise from the engines has prompted complaints from Scarborough residents, the noise seems to be very penetrating and carries a long way, stood at Seamer you can almost hear it leaving Scarborough. Quite a bit of vibration on some track can be irritating. Overall I think your summary captures most of the important points. Keep up the good work.

Never mind what you said about the Loco's sound, I was reading your mind, your not only adore that livery, you feel the same way about that loco and it's fabulous sound, never mind what your mother says. Station cats, Felix and Bolt, you spend too much time around railway stations, it seems. I'll tell you one day, why all cats prefer their human slaves to be boi's, that is another story. I wasn't going to say, but you have got to be one of the UK's greatest railway fan's, as well as being a very rare young guy, taking a great interest in all kinds of history and geography, where most young people, have little interest in it any more. Keep up the great work Dylan! Felix and Bolt look adorable! The interior is beautiful, the First Class table lamps are amazing, a lovely finishing touch.

Oh good lord, the Pacer trains! They felt like a intentional punishment for any rail users in the North of England. The SE got nicer trains whilst me in Manchester and the surrounding area got bouncy, knee crushing Pacer trains that screeched around corners. I remember frequently having to commute on them and having to stand in the footwear where the bifold doors recessed into and having to squeeze up at every stop so as not to be injured. I'd say those were the good old days, but I sont miss them at all.

I think it has to be said that the Liverpool-York route has gone in a few years from being one of the more miserable express experiences in the UK to being one of the best. Upgrades to track, stations, rolling stock and line route have made a considerable impact. I also agree the TPE livery is one of the most eye-catching. However, much of the route still remains a major traffic bottleneck trapped at 100% capacity. I know the plan is to re-quadruple much of the line - specifically the congested Manchester-Leeds corridor. It was also supposed to get electrified but that plan was repeatedly cancelled in the past. The line could be facing competition in the future from the proposed HS3 route, but frankly I don't expect that will ever happen. We're just too far from London to ever expect that kind of cash to be spent on rail infrastructure.

It's been a grim weather week but nice to see Birkenhead and the Belfast Ferry from a distance. It would have been nice to see the remarkable outside of Huddersfield Station as well as the cats. "Toolbox' is worth adding as an app to your 'phone so that you can report on the riding ambiance and noise in the carriages. One of your commentators refers to the excessive internal noise below. Best way to go to Wick is one way and return by 'plane to Aberdeen. By train both ways in a 156 gets a bit tedious.....and noisy if they must have the hopper windows open under Covid regs. Don Coffey's cab view recording of much of this route is well worth watching.

I remember the days when the Trans Pennine stuff out Lime Street was a Class 31 with Regional Railways coaches, and sometimes the odd Class 37. Great to see you start off there as I moved away in 2004 and hardly recognise some of the city any longer.

I think we need to start a petition to get a loco named after Bolt. My Westie had a Mexican stand-off when passing through last year.

Thank you for a great review. I too have travelled on these trains several times, and agree with all that you say. The seats are excellent, but the ride quality is poor, and those carriages ALL rattle ! Even worse, TPE are excruciatingly slow at getting all the Nova 3 sets into service. They are supposed to be used on the Manchester Airport to Middlesbrough and Redcar service as well, but I am not aware of any being seen on that route yet, and after all this time. No doubt First TPE blame Covid for everything, but they are being pathetic in not providing any onboard service, ( they do on GWR !) and even worse is the absurd area cordoned off at the front of the 1st Class carriage. Ridiculous.

The train seems to be noisy because the diesel engines, isn't it ? It's sad that this kind of new train haven't two mods : electric and diesel. We often saw the catenary during the journey. It could be more ecological and economical for the company... 🤔

In fact, a bi-mode variant of this locomotive is going to be introduced and it will be called "class 88" and is going to be equipped with both pantograph and diesel engine

Our goverment keeps chopping and changing its plans. Not long ago, the whole TP route was to be electrified, but now they've proposed High Speed 3: Northern Powerhouse Rail, the latest excuse to offer Northerners a tempting but almost certainly too expensive and far-off solution. So we continue to wait for an upgrade to this Victorian route.

It was nice to see a bit of the Wirral at the very start of this video cos that’s where i’m from. I hope TPX reinstate the regular direct services from Liverpool to Scarborough soon cos I really want to try the Nova 3 but don’t want to have to get up at 5am to do so.

I agree with you about the livery on the new TPE trains, I certainly haven't seen a nicer one in the UK. It's particularly impressive on that Class 68 loco, it makes it really stand out

I am old enough to recall when a class 45 would haul these services. Great to see a loco back on them as the multiple units were not (IMO) up to the job....

Like you I really like the TPE livery, it has to be the best of train liveries!! My worry is when GBR takeover all the originality and initiative will be lost as we see so well done with TPE. Living in Leeds, and you were looking out the wrong side of the carriage to have seen my apartment, I am very familiar with TPE’s services and rolling stock. I hope they do reinstate both the hourly Liverpool Scarborough service with the 68’s and their First Class offer - the only TOC, I think, not to attempt to bring anything back!

Dylan I do think that if you are reviewing the easy access toilets then you should go through those particular features. Eg is there braille, are there retractable handrails? Etc
