I transplant some Mullein into my yard. Mullein typically grow in full sun and poor soil. their seeds can be dormant in the soil for 100 years before sprouting!

I smoke it for taste, for it's mild relaxing effect, and to clear up my lungs. Have a persistent amount of fluid in my lungs following a cold a month or so back.

Ah. Mullein. Just started drying the leaves and smoking it. In my pipe, and rolled into cigarettes. Just transplanted 5 plants today. Two indoors and three outdoors. I just dug up the whole root structure encased in 12" of soil and replanted it. I live on Martha's Vineyard where the soil is sandy and poor. Mullein loves it. Grows in open soil areas, along roadsides, where other plants don't grow. I love smoking it. Used to be prescribed for tuberculosis.

+Lee Crt do you smoke it for the taste or some medical reason? I collected seeds and hope to force them to germinate. they can wait up to a hundred years!

Do you smoke it by itself or in a blend? Does it get you "high"? Or is it just nice to smoke? Have you experienced health benefits and I'd so, what? Sorry for all the questions! I'm just very interested in smoking different herbs and I just got a bunch of dried mullein and my own plant and wanted some more info before I just go smoking it!

@@HealersHoney I smoke Mullein. It is the main ingredient in virtually all herbal tobacco alternatives. It does not get you high in any way. It has a mild flavour with very mild, soothing, smoke. It is best blended with other leaves as a base, where the other leaves add flavours of your preference. I have found it nice to smoke in my pipe, as I was a heavy pipe smoker for many years. I have had no success using it as a rolling tobacco as it burns quickly, but in a pipe it forms a lovely smouldering cake layer and smokes very well. It is calming, relaxing, but in no way does it get you high.

It's so weird to me that you guys talk about trying to get Mullein to grow here in Central Oklahoma it runs rampant I could probably go get about 50 lb worth in around 20 minutes. Seriously thinking about harvesting a crapload drying it myself and selling it since you don't need a license or anything to sell it.

The seeds can be dormant for over a hundred years?! Well ive planted over a thousand of them and not a one had done anything, so maybe my grandchildren will finally see them!
@m005kennedy Жыл бұрын
I read conflicting information on sprouting the seeds. One says they need light to germinate so you can't cover them with soil. I spread the seeds all over my front yard and I have had several come up. None this year, buy two came up in the backyard on their own. I have a feeling they do better in poor soil as well.

An exercise to help plantar fasciitis is to walk on tippy toes with one hand stretched in the air. Pretty sure it was the hand of the same side as the sore foot. Was the only thing that relieved my pain ( cured it actually) after suffering it for a year.

Someone sent me a mullein plant with roots in the mail and I am just clueless on what to do as I live in southern Illinois. It’s getting cold and our soil is not sandy like it needs😕Maybe put it in a pot for now??
@m005kennedy2 жыл бұрын
The problem with it being in a pot is it developes a large horizontal root system. I think you are right about it being too cold. The first year Mullein stores energy in the roots. If you plant it outdoor now it most likely would just die. The only advice I can give you is to not over water it. It will grow best in full sun. Please let me know how you make out.

They do sell Mullein seeds. I've read different directions for getting them to germinate. Some sources say need light to germinate so they must be on top of the soil. I spread a lot of Mullein seeds in my yard but I'll only get one or two plants come up each year.

I'd like to know if it took, and how you use it.
@m005kennedy3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they transplanted, but it stunted their growth. I currently have a first year and second year plant growing in my front yard. They grew from the seeds of those original transplants. Mullein has many reported uses. It is called cowboy toilet paper. The flowers are use for ear infections. I used it for foot pain at but I had to go to more rugged relief for it. Any book about medicinal plants will include this and its uses.

Mike, have the roots helped your back/nerve issue? Also, when is the best time to transplant Mullein? Can i transplant a first-year plant in Spring? I have one growing wild in my garden & I want to keep it, but it's in a bad spot and I need to move it. Thanks!
@m005kennedy4 жыл бұрын
I think transplanting early is good. The ones I did were later in the year and it stunted them. They were first year plants. And the did come up the second year. The root system will surprise you. They have very long horizontal roots. When hospitals get back to normal I’m going to try some pain block/steroid shots in my back.
@MeMyselfAndEyeTeeth4 жыл бұрын
@@m005kennedy Thanks for answering so quick! Mine isn't super big, I think I'll try tomorrow. My other option is let it grow, see if it puts out a seed stalk, then try to use the the seeds in the area where I want the plants to be. About the steroid shots - They helped my neck a LOT but they're so expensive: Last year I did two or three rounds of 3 shots & would've continued had it not been cost-prohibitive. I'm planning on seeing about doing my lower back when I see my ortho guy in a couple weeks - my neuro appt was cancelled thanks to the Wuhan Plague but my ortho guy is still seeing patients so... Hope you get great results! I sure know how it is to be in pain all the time. It's a life-changing situation when your spine is shot either thru accident injury or degradation. I'm kinda combination of both...had disc issues in my neck already when my back was ruined in a car wreck. Gal ran a red light & I was under said light (except from my vantage point, the light was green) Ruined my life, I can tell ya that! So ya think it's too late to transplant my Mullein? We still get cool nights, but have had a couple of mid-80s days here.
@m005kennedy4 жыл бұрын
Johnny Monstair I did not get great results with seeds. I got a couple plants but one they were gone there were no more. Mullien seeds can be dormant for a 100 years before sprouting waiting for the right conditions. Transplanting forces them to grow where you want them to. I’ve read the seeds must be put in a freezer for three weeks to break dormancy and others who say it is unnecessary.

I've made a tincture for my husband lung situation. But I read mullien doesn't need watering it grows near and around dry sand, rock areas. So careful on watering you may just kill your plant good luck.🤗🌴🌿🌾🥰

@m005kennedy2 жыл бұрын
These were transplanted around the end of spring. Transplanting them stunts their growth a lot. This plants grows in poor soil that is well drained. Being a pioneer plant it can grow were other plants don't grow. It's large horizontal root system brings water and nutrients to the plant. I seeded my yard with seeds from this plant. One sprouted up in an area that was not well drained and it was stunted.

It was wild. I think replanting them was not to their liking. My method was just to spread the roots out as much as I could. The problem was I didn’t get all the roots up with the plant originally. The horizontal root system can be very large. These are considered pioneers plants and are use to poor soil conditions. My yard isn’t really bad enough for them to take hold. I do have two small ones this year in my yard. There are in different parts of the yard so we will see what happens. One plant produces thousands of seeds. The seeds can lay dormant in soil for a hundred years before germinating.
