The T3 was a continuation of the Type 2. The problem is inherent to the design. The driver and front passenger are in the crumple zone. Even if the cabin structure were more solid the g-forces involved due to the layout would prove fatal. Crumple zones only work if there is sufficient vehicle to crumple this allowing the people to decelerate more slowly.

Me recuerdan a las abismales diferencias entre el Golf IV y Golf II entre sí. Aunque con matices, los chocaron a 60 k/h entre sí a 40% de solapamiento, mientras que entre el Golf Iv y Golf II fue a casi 56 k/h cada uno... O que entre el Golf IV y Golf II, para el golf IV equivaldría a chocar contra un muro a no mucho más de 45 k/h, mientras que para el Golf II como si chocara contra un muro a unos 65-70 k/h, y en cambio el VW T6 se deformó como si chocara a 60 k/h y el VW T3 como si chocara contra un muro tb. a 60 k/h... No es disparatado pensar que a 60 k/h contra un muro es equivalente a un VW T3 lo que el Golf II a 65-70 k/h contra un muro con similar solapamiento del 40%... Mientras que un VW T6 a 60 k/h contra un muro es un golpe más duro que un VW T6 a 60k/h e incluso a 64k/h contra una barrera deformable tb. al 40% de solapamiento. O que el Golf IV a 45 k/h es muchísimo menos exigente que chocarlo contra una barrera deformable(al menos en términos de deformaciones) a 64 k/h... Un Golf IV pesaba un 17% más que el Golf II, y el VW T6 un 11% más que el VW T3, en ambos casos las mejoras son muchísimo más que proporcionales que el aumento de peso, pero resulta que el nivel de esfuerzo a aguantar en el VW Golf IV es 1,4 veces más que el Golf II(es como si chocar sólo a 45 k/h frente al Golf II a 65 k/h), mientras que el T6 frente al T3 no aumenta su nivel de esfuerzo; aproximadamente uno a uno(es como si chocaran cada uno a 60 k/h cada uno, pero con diferencias abismales entre ambos tanto que el VW T3 para que fuera indeformable hubieran tenido que chocarlo a no más de 38-40 k/h contra un muro, mientras que la T6(e incluso T5 hubiera podido superarlo a 50-55 k/h, de ahí las brutales diferencias pese a todo, pese a no haber aumentado aún más la agresividad frente a los "contrarios")... Es decir ya el VW T3 se mostraba demasiado agresivo a los "contrarios" como ya se demostró en su momento en un crash-test a 58 k/h cada uno contra "todo" un Volvo 740(si bien es verdad que el Volvo tenía todas las de perder dadas las grandes diferencias en alturas entre ambos)...
