Just like humans, stress can harm fish and increase their chances of disease and death. In this video I go through the system I use to optimally transport fish.

Thank you for this excellent advice. I have to move 4 big fish tanks to a new house. I just bought a power inverter and I will be following your method. I really appreciate your help! Have a great day

Do you recommend this set up for a 6 year old, 2 foot long plecostumus? Pete is moving from California to Arizona, about 6 hours of travel by car. For Pete's sake, I want to give him a smooth transition. Thank you for the great video!

Any additional suggestions on moving 12-14" long bass from pond to pond. About a 30 minute drive between ponds. My friends pond is over stocked and we're wanting to transfer some to mine

Was that tank water in the tub? Did you do a water change prior to lessen the ammonia risks? Just curious

What would u recommend I buy for transportation,I’m driving from San Francisco to Los Ángeles to buy 2 Trimacs,one is 5 inches the other is 4 inches,it’s a 7 hours drive home,tote size?Inverter size?i was thinking battery powered air pump so I don’t need inverter?Also was going to bring buckets and bring home all tank water and gravel they were in from the owners tank?

You know what would be much easier? Use a sponge filter. Solves the ammonia problem if you prep the sponge filter long before you move.

Dumb question... not sure if I missed this or not, but what should I set the heater too? Being that it’s a smaller amount of water, should it be set to a lower temp?
@AquaticLogic4 жыл бұрын
Rick T. Foster if the heater is thermostatically controlled (which 99.9% are) you just set it and forget it! It will switch off when it’s at the right temperature. The smaller volume of water will allow it to heat up faster 👍🏻

what about for filtration? I am moving 4 glo fish and 3 algae eater from l.a to n.y i really hope they survive because they are my little daughter's fish.

I would use SeaChem Prime to detoxify the ammonia and other nitrogenous wastes that will build up, and that way you won’t need filtration. Keep the temperature steady, run an air stone for oxygen, and dose your Prime and you should be good to go. Remember that fish fly in from Thailand and they seem to do ok.

What a waste of time. No need for all that.

Feel free to increase the harm and stress to your own fish when transporting them.
