There should be an origin where you are the L cluster empire being in a war with the nanites that takes a long time to win and you would have another way to open the L gates

That would be cool but it will also be simultaneously op af and like shooting yourself in the foot. You're very limited with planets you can go to and your research options but you're also completely segregated from everyone else, meaning you don't have to deal with conflict at all for most of the game, bar your initial civil war and its very easy to police yourself and ward off pirates. You can also just close borders to potential threats and there's sweet FA they can do about it aside from War, in which case. Make some very powerful friends that would like to keep using your L-Gates.

@@apocryphal4878 the fact that the only access the rest of the Galaxy has to your little cluster is the one L-Gate System unless you decide to build a Gateway is already op in itself (which I'm sure is unnecessary unless you decided to get a foothold somewhere on the main galaxy). Although the crisis spawning in your little system instead would be very unlucky and unfortunate for yourself. Then again, the odds of that happening would most likely be very low if it would happen at all cuz I never see it happened in my games before too.

It would be a really funny idea to put an experienced player as a fanatical purifier in the L-cluster in a beginner game. The experienced player would start with the same everything just in the L-cluster, so he could play tall, without it being to much too fast, like if he had the nanites. But basically the longer they wait to open it up, the stronger he gets in there.

Solution, if we make it so he can never open it himself to have him simulate the grey tempest. Just never open the L-Gate.

another alternative your race is considered gods to a fallen empire "our gods have returned! we have not been abandoned, the gods have shown us the way, we take charge once again to purify all other lower lifeforms" and have a crisis uncontrollable vassal who is doing the exact opposite of what you wanted

Oooh, I remember my playthrough with L-Cluster start! 🤩😁 I was Role-Playing the REAPERS (with several mods of course) trapped beyond the Galaxy, waiting for curious organics let me out. The start was... extremely fun. I've been waiting for 194 years😁 As a result, once they opened the gates... I rolled through the Galaxy exterminating every advanced organics and leaving primitives alone. All together, after 60 years of Harvest about 3 trillions was killed and about 200 billions were processes for... reapers stuff😁

@@gasalpha879 Extra galactic cluster start Reaper's advisor Mass effect Ship sets NSC2 or Reapers ship set (Pretty bugged, though. Both of them. Had to fix that myself.) Land appropriation for Gestalt Geth portraits No megastructure limit ME species (only for flags) Wide fleet formation Extended vanilla palette No peace from war exhaustion THICC species portraits (only for backgrounds without windows) Primitive Galaxy Otter editor (for fixing any bugged stuff with Extra galactic cluster, especially with L-Gates)

I always want to try and make it a military hub with a mega shipyard and all that, but then I always am turned away from the idea of opening because I hate the Gray Tempest

I did that once, I got destroyed outside during my struggle against Gray Tempest until I finally had their lands but mine were lost, made a massive OP chokepoint at the only entrance and built back up, not long after I had started clawing it all back I managed to take out so many of them, I was... inevitable, crisis wins

This sounds like a fairly easy game actually. The L-Cluster has fantastic resources, you‘d need to put very little energy into exploration and no worries about military threats until the mid-to-late game (the AI tends to be bad at opening the Gates). So it‘s a straight builder game for the first half of the game. That‘s a huge plus. In regular games the big problem is getting invaded by stronger empires while trying to catch up.

I believe the mod spawns you with the old style ring worlds if you choose the OP origin (Which is the one I choose!)

Could do a MP and disable the endgame crisis, make a player crisis in the L Cluster instead that the players need to fight and defeat. I have just noticed other people suggested this, but I will keep it anyway

The only thing close to this is the On a Faraway Island origin in the gigastructures mod, though that one you can expand. Here you're stuck with what you are given in the official L-Cluster. This is very interesting

25x is vanilla! You turn up the difficultly in the settings before you start the game :)

You must have not played the game in a long while cuz they changed that long ago where you could change the Crisis difficulty to 25x, about the same time they put the new resources into the game like alloys, etc

I would love to play like this and _NOT_ go for discovering the L-gates lol. Would have to guess how fast the AI would open them, though. But a *LOT* of resources could be saved on not having *ANY* fleet, for a long long time.
