The way that works for me is try words that end in common letters like ing est er and seeing the number of letters correct, then it’s just simple math which I’m pretty good at

When I do it I just pick the first three then find all the bugs and restore my allowance. After that it’s easy to find the right one because there’s less to choose from and you have your clues on the right. Works every time

I've been using the back out of terminal trick since Fallout 3 came out. I however, never knew about the other tricks! Thanks! I'll be using that from now on!

Thanks Gnarly, I really appreciate your comment. I actually try to not always exit and I do try to solve each terminal on the first attempt. I'm at a point now where I usually solve the quicker then having to exit and enter terminals.

I always pick the words that end with "ing", "ed" or "ion" and then I restore my allowance.

That sounds like a sound strategy. I tend to go with a random worked and then use duds. I then use the hints to work out from the remaining answers.

Despite playing the game and just brute forcing the password by leaving the terminal and going back in, knowing these small tricks would of made everything so much easier... It's like that meme i seen somewhere. "You played this for hundreds of hours" "Yes" "So you must be good at it, right?" *_crying cat picture_*

I know the feeling. Truth be told the hacking still catches you out. At times you whittle it down to two possible answers and I swear I got the right one but the terminal thinks it's wrong and locks me out. Oh well, save files to the rescue.

Usually when I hack I get lucky most of the time and pick the right choice. When I make a build I usually try to max out science and lock picking in order to keep my inner loot goblin happy.

Ha ha it's nice these hacking mini games. In a way it provides a small break away from the harshness of the game but not enough to lose interest and move onto something else. As funny as it may sound, terminal hacking just makes Fallout feel so much more immersive.

Theres some more to this!! The replenish is ALWAYS [ ] or ( ) Duds will have a jumbled mess of symbols that are within [ ] or ( ) etc so itll look like [ # % $ & ] or ( \ ^ - ^ / ). So if you find something like [ ] or ( ) save these for last, as they'll replenished your tries. And click the duds, ( % @ / = ) to eliminate the wrong answers. Coupling the advice above along with exiting and entering the terminal as mentioned in the second half of the video, you can get into ANY terminal if you have the 100 science. This works on fallout 3 as well. I love your videos btw 😃👌👍

No problem at all CD. I tend to use up all the clues and by the end I am usually left with 3-5 answers. I usually get it after that in just the one go.

I figured most of this in fallout 3. I now pick one word that has common letters to see if it is like that or nowhere close. Then start using the blocks to eliminate most of the duds. Once I'm at where I can see the likely answer I go for it.

That's actually a very good way to go about it. I tend to pick a work at random hoping for 2/3 matches. Next I go for another work that matches on at least that many letters followed by using hints. By the end I am usually left with one or two possible answers.

Me and my brother generally pick words ending in ing, tion, or ed. Preferably its not them so we can rule out more than we have to go through.

Your not the first Tankman, many of us did this. It's only somewhat recently that I try to get each terminal I do in the first try now but once upon a time I used to guess, exit, enter and guess again until I got it right.

When I played Fallout 3 for the first time when I was around 10 or 12, it had this eerie and strange but still curious atmosphere while playing. And the first few times I was faced with these terminals, I understood quite quickly how to solve them. I was very proud of myself then. 😂

The combinations you are looking for are , [ ], ( ), or { }. Everything in between does not matter - as long as it is not a password. You also need to mark the *beginning* of the phrase, so you can just scan the left side of each line. And since _"dud removed"_ is far more frequent than _"allowance replenished",_ it makes more sense to look for the little helpers at the beginning and clear out as many false passwords as possible.

That's literally what I do. I go looking for all the clues and by the end I am able to figure out which the password is.

I believe one thing and it's if the higher science the player has, the less words a terminal has, but you can try it to check if i'm wrong

It's all randomly generated the moment you open a terminal. It's never pre-determined.

Trust me, your not the only one. This mini game is not very well explained. You see that popup the first time you open a terminal and never again. Many folks usually end up guess and then exiting and entering to try again.

Am I blind and stupid or are there sometimes no duds to remove? I tested a terminal about half a dozen times for practice and sometimes I only found one or two duds and never the replenish or nothing at all.

Nope, your not blind at all. It's entirely possible. That said sometimes they are just so difficult to see. Try spotting single brackets and highlight them. That's how I find most of my clues.

It's a valid strategy and it does work. To be fair it's probably what most folks did at the beginning or are still doing.

Moe this has nothing to do with this cheat but that chip glitch i told you about to get infinite caps, i did it with the dlc i forgot the name its the one that involves going to the abandoned bos bunker the viva casino i did the chips glitch with those chips and i can get infinite anything from the chip vending machine

Trust me, not many do. Most folks (including myself) opted to just try 3 times, exist and enter and try again. Now that I do know, I tend to solve every terminal on the first go.

It's totally normal to not really know about this. I personally did not know about this until about a year into playing the game and that was mostly me messing about and finding out things for myself.

Typically when your locked out, the terminal enters lock-down phase, cool down rsher.

It's a great suggestion but I don't think there is one. You can usually find at least one in almost every location (except places like caves).

Sadly yes but it's only temporary. After some time you should be able to try and hack the terminal again. It basically becomes active again.
