In this latest adventure of Wisconsin Fisherman, I headed out to set some traps for spring leeches, prepping for the upcoming fishing season. I admit, I had my doubts about the timing, but it turned out to be just right. The traps were overflowing with leeches, giving us a whopping catch of about 650! It's always fascinating to witness nature's surprises. I hope you enjoyed tagging along. I trapped hundreds of pounds of leeches for multiple bait shops on the iron range in Minnesota back in the mid 70s until about 82. I've used those folded print plates, flashing, coffee cans and burlap traps. They all worked great 👍. I sold them for 50¢ a dozen and $18.00 a pound. I did really well. 😊

From what I've read, if it has snails and no fish it should be good

I am in Central New York. We used to tie a rope on a muskrat carcass throw it in the pond. We would have three or four of them come back in the morning they would be loaded. We used to turn our trapping rubber glove inside out kind of glove that goes up to the shoulder we would fill half the glove with leeches. This was back in the 1960s, thanks for the video

You need a rubber kitchen spatula to get those little critters out. It might keep your fingers from getting frozen.

Great information! Here in southwest Wisconsin we dig for crawlers, but whener I go up north fishing I notice every bait shop carries leeches. Thanks for the video.

I love these leech videos i was wondering how long do they survive in your fridge and do you put clean water to then everyday?Do you use a container with a cover with hole to?

Months change water every couple days. Just a bucket half way with water

You mean your local master/politician doesn't ask you to pay them for catching your own bait from the land/water/property they claim they own ? Thats amazing ! Recreational fishing is a God given right not a privilege, the licenses are are nothing more than a fee on our rights.
