Hey y’all!
As promised on my Live Video and the last video I posted on setting the turtle trap, here’s the result! We caught 7 common snapping turtles! Somehow, 3 of them climbed out of the cage! We put them in the tank of clean water to purge them (clean them out). We didn’t catch all 7 in one day, we caught them over the course of a week and a half!
I’m not showing the cleaning process, but I will try to get a video of Dad cooking them! I don’t know how because I’ve never tried it, but I’ll definitely learn! We’ll fry some and make Sauce Piquante (a Louisiana Cajun Recipe) with the rest!
If you haven’t already, make sure to subscribe to Dad’s (Jeff Barron) Channel!
Here’s the link:

As a Lakota Sioux I believe in using everything from a kill my people would use Turtle shells for ceremonial rattles as well as for possible bags or for ladling water it made me happy to see you find beauty in the shell and want to use it as a decorative element in your home have a blessed day full of love light and joy and may the Great Spirit watch over you

Best videos on KZfaq! Turn these into teaching videos. You and your dad are very entertaining being your selves. That's a high complement. Teach us how to catch, clean and cook what you catch. I grew up doing what you and your wonderful dad are doing. I have been trying to teach my daughter's this for when they need to survive but we live in the city now and they just dont understand how important this is to know. Teach us all you know, details!! You will probably get your own tv show some day soon. God bless you and your dad and stay safe. Edit - Sorry! I just figured out you are already doing teaching videos and are already famous. Hannah, I just love your channel and I love your laugh! You and your dad are awesome! You are very blessed to have a father and a teacher like he is. Hes very talented and I would love to hang with him for a week. I'm from one of the biggest cities in a particular mid west state. We are in the top 100 largest cities with a Population like 350 to 380k. Some people consider that a small city, I consider us not small but not uncomfortably large where traveling is not unbelievably dreadful. We have suburban areas that are small town style living and tons of cities with an hour or so that skip across in and out of town within a few minutes. I live 5 to 10 minutes from downtown near our local zoo and I can drive towards th opposite direction for 10 to 15 minutes or 25 to 30 minutes from downtown and be on the outskirts of city limits and see any and all wildlife. Deer, Fox, Turkey coyotes or whatever. In the city, fox, raccoons, possums, ducks, rabbits, geese and more can be found. I've had plenty of squirrel and dumpling meals from ones that destroyed my pecan season. They were delicious!! Anyway Hannah, I love my city but cities with a few thousand are most ideal for me. I love how the south has more hospitality but I'm not going to lie, as a Black man, Unfortunately I have to be aware that some people are not as welcoming to me as I am to everyone else and that breaks my heart. I believe in God and heaven and In excited and believe that in Heaven out spiritual beings just see the spirit energy and nothing else. I would love nothing more than the opportunity to be able to come and shoot a video on your channel and learn from you guys. I think the video would do really good but unfortunately that's the only thing I would worry about and especially in the smaller towns. I've even had that problem here as I grew up on the westside which was mostly white. I've been made fun of by white and blacks for the way I talk.... I've dated black women and their families have thought I wasn't black enough and white families have not wanted me to date their daughters just by the way I look. My cousin was one of 3 to 5 best friends growing up and as far as cultural stereotypes go, he was completely saw as opposite from the outside world. One of my other BF was bi racial, and 3 white So if anyone knows about racial dynamics, it would be me. I could write a book. What's crazy is that we share more In common than we have differences between us. We are different in circumstances through history etc... A white person with dark hair and one with red hair are more different than the gene that controls skin color or melanin. We are all linked to African origin. I think a Chinese guy tried to prove that the Chinese were something different and superior but he just found out that he was a cousin to Africans. Our American history are textbooks to us. Africans were already here in America pre slavery and Africans had white slaves in Europe. Spain to be exact. Africa was very developed in some places. Very advanced and genetically marveled. When Europeans went there I'm sure they didn't know that their ancestors were from there if they could go far enough back. They were shocked because people didnt get sick there but obviously tens and thousands of years removed from the continent of Africa, culture changes for many reasons. I say all that to say this. We are all brothers and sisters. Culture is the biggest difference between us today! In America, lots of differences boils down to our history and slavery. Its important to learn from it. Me and my friends live the best life because we are well traveled and self taught through research and travels. We work to teach to be equals. I mention all this because I know you recognize how being on youtube and being a KZfaq star is crazy and you are subject to much criticism and judgement unfairly at at a rate of 1 million x the average man. Lol. You say or do one thing and it can snowball or fester into something way over exaggerated and it can really test an individual mentally. That's why some take breaks from KZfaq. I get it. 10 yrs ago I had a social media page about sports and literally was called every derogatory name in the book and everything but my actual name. Now I recognize that evil and ignorance will always exist. Just dont feed it energy. Anyway, I'm gonna subscribe to your dad's channel. He is awesome and so are you. Keep doing what you are doing and never give power to the ignorance or evil. I pray for everyone during this tough time and I'm thankful for everything that I have and I'm thankful that I can escape the world to enjoy watching your channel. What you guys do means so much! Preciate Y'all!!

Another Awesome video! My grandpa and I use to catch them over here in the Mississippi Delta. Biggest one was over a hundred pounds and they are good! My grandpas Doctor, Dr Tibbs in Cleveland, Ms always wanted turtle, frog legs, catfish, garden vegetables, etc from my grandpa and my grandpa would keep him stocked up and free of charge and Dr Tibbs never charged my grandparents for anything dr related he did for them including surgery! That's when people really cared about people ! Dr Tibbs and my grandparents have passed on but the values and knowledge remains in my heart and soul! I love all aspects of fishing, trapping, hunting, gardening and the "country" way of life of surviving, caring and loving people! Sorry so long but I enjoy sharing about my role models I had in my life like your dad in yours! From the Mississippi Delta, Preciate Y'all 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 J Russell

When I was a kid my brother and me were riding our horses to the store and it was still flooding and water everywhere and one crossed the road it's the biggest I've ever seen in my life. I've never seen one that that size it looked like a dinosaur. My brother stood on it's back and it walked with him on it's back. It was the size of a number 3 warsh tube or bigger!

I'd always boil deer antlers/skulls to get the meat off of them before mounting them to a wall plack. My uncle always just left them on a shelf in his barn and let the flies/maggots clean off everything over the winter into the next spring.

rinse with water and soap make sure you don’t get it in their eyes it burns and once you rinse it dry it and put it back and that’s how you bathe a turtle just like a dog 🐢

Still remember my uncle and his 22speedmaster popping those solfshell turtles from a moving boat, then using a dip net to scoop them up from the Tombigbee river .He would share anything but not his turtle soup.He was a World War II vet and a true river rat.Gone, but not forgotten.

You left the best tasting meat in the shell. The “backstraps” are the best tasting part of the turtle. There are bones that are in the shape of a ladder running parallel to and on the left and right side of the center line. Underneath on each side you will find a strip of meat. To remove the meat it is necessary to chisel or cut or break the rib bones in the center on each side of the shell. (I use a 1” wide very clean wood chisel and a hammer. Cut the cross bones at each edge of the strip of meat. Then cut around the meat on all sides. Finally, fillet the strip of meat away from the shell. Those “backstraps” are the best tasting part of the turtle.
