When I was about 8 years old I struggled with writing, mainly because my hand would shake so much when holding a pencil/pen. My language arts teacher at the time had me doing writing pages for practice. My dad at one point “helped” me. He would constantly judge my writing calling it “chicken scratch”, throwing the papers, yelling at me saying why cant I write better. Still to this day I struggle with writing but thank god for typing. But my god… some “parents” are just not meant to have children or be teachers.

Only asked for help with math homework from my mom once, never again
@mangohush59463 жыл бұрын
I know this is funny now cause for some of us, this was a long time ago. But this type of "help" fucked me up for good. I ended up going to my friends and their parents for academic assistance. Eventually, I became uncomfortable asking my mom for help, for anything. The longer that mindset stayed with me the less I communicated with her about any of my problems. If I sit here and think about all the open hand slaps and crying long enough I can get pissed off all over again, even if it was over 20 years ago. I certainly hope you guys don't carry on that type of parenting to your kids.
@breelauren37482 жыл бұрын
100% agree. It started off funny but then actually made me a bit sad to think back and remember some of my experiences with homework. How traumatic and distressing it was, and it lead to me keeping large secrets in my preteen and teen years and secret pregnancy scares and never feeling like I could confide in my parents. If a parent flies off the handle over small stuff and even physically abuses the child - they can’t be surprised when the kid keeps secrets and doesn’t let them in when they are in trouble or in a situation where they do need to ask for advice.
@tiffanygutierrez45592 жыл бұрын
I have a difficult mother who always screamed at me and emotionally abused me even more when I was a kid. I kept so much hidden after those experiences. Even until now, I don’t tell her much. Awards and high achievements are always kept to myself at times because I really don’t like to tell her anything. I know I will need a lot of therapy if I decide to become a mother someday. I never want to continue that cycle that my mother put on me. I never want to put that stress and depression on my child ever.
