In today's video we're going to be doing a trash to treasure desk makeover using chalk paint! I found this desk on Facebook Marketplace and we are going to clean it up and give it a new life! I will be using ‪@DixieBellePaint‬ chalk mineral paint in the color Caviar.
If you enjoy this video make sure to give it a thumbs up, and if you don't give it a thumbs down! Thank you so much for watching and don't forget to check out some of my other videos before you leave!
xoxo, Holly

It turned out so good. I was sure you were gonna go with wood on the drawers and top and color on the base. Try using watered-down bleach on the stains with a very small brush to make them blend into the wood.

Beautiful job overall! One suggestion (from the wife of a carpenter): wrap the dark color inside of the drawer area (on the frame, not the drawers themselves) to keep the lighter framework from showing in the corners. It'll take your work to the next level :)

Well done. You went for the all black effect. Personally , I would have left the drawers wood tone or stained it. But everyone like things differently 😉 You don't water Dixie Bell chalk paint? You don't sand between coats? Or its not just on the video? I woukd have love seeing you making that missing feet part.
@ChicAntiquebyHolly
@ChicAntiquebyHolly 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, everyone has different taste for sure! No, I don’t water down the paint. I didn’t sand between coats this time because it self-leveled really well and I didn’t need to. I absolutely understand you would have liked to see the repair, but I had never tried that technique before so I didn’t feel comfortable filming it. Thanks for watching!

@@ChicAntiquebyHolly omg no I was not absolutely not I'm so sorry. TBS is a kind of soap in a powder that you put on top of the wood to remove it dark stains you let it sit until dry and then wash it off. I was using the mic it was supposed to say it will come off or get lighter.

I feel like you were so close to getting that top perfect. Next time you can use oxalic acid or if you don’t have that you can make a paste from barkeepers friend if you apply it with a Q-tip just to the water stains and watch it closely it will take it right out!

It was so incredibly damaged, I don’t think anything would have taken it out because it went in so deep. It wasn’t worth the time it would have taken to correct it. I appreciate the tip! ☺️

¿Para que limpias primero si luego vas a lijar? Llevo muchos años restaurando muebles y si los limpio a fondo es porqué los voy a pintar directamante sin lijar con pintura a la tiza.
@ChicAntiquebyHolly
@ChicAntiquebyHolly 3 жыл бұрын
No importa lo que planeo hacer, siempre limpio primero. Es especialmente importante limpiar antes de lijar, porque si no lo hace, empujará toda la suciedad y la grasa en la madera con la lijadora.

Great Makeover! Could I offer a suggestion? It would be helpful if you could include how you made the mold and filled it. I’ve seen Crys’dawna’s video and it’s great, but the more videos on the technique, the better. Also, think about including things like dealing with melted jolly ranchers in the regular video and how to deal with weird issues that come up. Random problems pop up when refinishing furniture, it’s useful to learn how to tackle them.
