The plaintiff says she’s been friends with the defendant for 12 years, and they even dated on and off. She claims he has two large bins of arts and crafts items of hers and he’s refusing to return them, so she’s suing for the money for the items. The defendant says the plaintiff kept saying she would pick up the items but never did, so he tossed out the junk. He claims she’s only suing because he broke up with her.

This is what happens when you let yourself be financially dependent on a relationship that you’ve been in for all of 5 seconds. I made the mistake of not being able to afford my living situation independently when divorce happened. Made that mistake yet again when I moved in with another person thinking the relationship was solid when it wasn’t. Never again. When my current husband and I had dated for almost 4 years before we moved in, I made sure I could afford the place and the utilities by myself because I wasn’t going to be in that situation ever again! We’ve been together going on 13 years and married almost 8. I still made sure our mortgage and bills in our house we bought would not be more than I could handle alone.

Shawna Kimberly Well I've been married for 20 years, been a stay at home mom for 17 years....I had to fight my husband to go back to work to help him with the bills...I can't afford this house by myself (this is our second house), but I'm not worried because I married the right person..... Perhaps it was the person you picked? I say that because men take pride in taking care of their women.....Just met a man who almost went bankrupt paying hundreds of thousands for his wife's cancer treatment, she was a stay at home wife...... Perhaps u chose wrong or perhaps the marriage failed because of you. We will never know because we don't have his side....All I know is, there is nothing wrong with depending on a man....if it's the right man for you.

Smart women! I experienced something somewhat similar. When I met my partner after 1 week of meeting we begin dating, we immediately clicked, things moved quite fast. After 2 weeks of us just dating he told me that he was in love. He asked me to move with him from my home state to N.C. He left first, 8 months later I followed. I left everything behind, and basically was dependent upon him financially. He told me that I didn't have to work and that he'd take care of me. He did exactly that! However, it came with a price. Things went from really good, to really bad. I literally became is housewife, tending to his every need, I had no identity anymore. I felt like my entire world begin to revolve only around him. He eventually started to mistreat me. We fought a lot. Instead of me leaving I still stayed but I begin making my own money and thriving. There was a shift in our relationship, which it took a lot of time for him to adjust To because he'd lost the control he'd previously had. We moved into another place together, And I did exactly what you did. Everything had to be affordable for me just in case we were to separate. I make my own money and can if anything fails independently succeed on my own. It's been 14 years and fortunately we are still together... No more fighting, no more issues, we are happy and he still pays all of the bills and takes care of home. I say that to say, no matter what always be in the position to financially support oneself because anything can happen.

They said 12 years they had been friends. Seems more logical they were just acquaintances and through tragedy of loves one they thought the other could bring each other stability. Found out real quick compatibility needs to be work out before the other can. That’s why it’s important to date a person before moving in with them. Plus, never allow yourself at the mercy of someone else especially when you’re not only responsible for yourself but a young daughters. Her decision to leave what she knew to be with this guy in another state put her in this predicament. It was never made clear why he said he needed her so I’m wondering if her situation was the same in North Carolina and she never mentioned that. So I pass no judgments on these two. I just hope that both learned from this and they make better decisions from here in out. Especially for the plaintiff because she has a very beautiful daughter that has a long future ahead of her. Speaking from experience not from a place of judgement but since the day I learned I was pregnant with my daughter 17 years ago. Every decision I’ve made from that moment on has been for her betterment. Doing that and praying and following my heart things have always worked themselves out.

This man reminds me of my uncle. They use women that are desperate. My uncle wears nice suits, goes to art galleries, even goes to the car shows. But uncle is broke and doesn’t even talk to his kids! He uses women that are older and ready to settle then use their cars and their money and then break up with them. The woman is crazy for bringing her child into something so quick but he’s just as wrong.

So, everyone in the comments is just going to gloss over the abuse/passive-aggressive actions of Defendant. Then, he blamed her for it. If he were serious, he would've evicted her properly. Instead, he forced her out using self-help. He's not innocent.

Ms Gathers your summing up with Doug was 100%. You dodged a bullet. In his summoning up he kept referring to HIS house so clearly this patriarch intended you to be his conditional guest but not his partner. I hope you get back on your feet and can seed your art and craft business again. You have a beautiful daughter and you and her dad have done a great job of raising her. I wish you both every happiness in the future. P.S. As a grown-up woman you stay out as late as you like and don't let any small nasty-minded man dare give you a curfew.

I feel sorry for the plaintiff's situation but I believe the defendant. Her excuses were all over the place. She could afford to go on a trip but not get her things that help make her income? She is too old to be dragging her child up and down the east coast. Why didn't her sister or older daughter take her in? I am sure they had a floor to sleep on. That said a lot for me.

@@dance4life1208 . Exactly; how do men ever benefit from paying off a woman's debt, paying her bills, looking after kids that are not his own, cavorting with damaged women who have slept with many men, have had many broken relationships, is from a broken home and is probably overweight with health problems and a bad attitude. This is what the vast majority nof women bring to the table. It is a waste of a good man's time.
