I read all of Domestic Girlfriend in 2 days a few years ago after watching the anime. It was the biggest binge-read I've ever done and I'm completely serious when I say that it actually had really good writing. Yes it's insane but I think it's the situations rather than the choices and characterization. Don't worry Garnt my brother we know peak when we see it. And of course: "If she ain't blood related she's free to be dated" - Garnt 2019

I think the author even admitted to writing this manga to be as shitty as possible cause she heard it sold well when the narrative is like that. Some others made their way out of the craziness too, so I still have good friends from back then who escaped the loop to varying degrees as well. This is evidently an unpopular opinion, but I agree with Garnt that it is unironically pretty good. The situations, especially in the first half of the manga are definitely pretty chaotic and a bit cliche, however the 2nd half of the manga turns into a pretty nice coming of age story for Natsuo, who is obviously a flawed character. I think some people would like it more if they read the whole thing with an open mind and making their own opinions of it, rather than going in with preconceived notions of what to expect based on what other people said about it.

I only read like 100 chapters, but one thing that made this manga stand out in popularity was how real it felt, most rom coms don't dare go as far as show actual sexual adult relationships, plus the mc's literature career was very well handled.

I 100% fucking agree with Garnt. The way everything progresses is fucking ridiculous but so amazing at the same time. It really hooked me and it was definitely a page turner. There are some really genuinely good character moments too and the character arc with Natsuo struggling and progressing in his writing career was masterfully done imo. Genuinely a good manga. I absolutely love it, infact any manga by this author is amazing to read. I also finished Good Ending. Another great manga. Cheers Garnt! 🥂

Domestic GF was actually happier in comparison. I was traumatized by this garbage called "Uwakoi" and that was a masterclass in dumpster fires which ended up with thw MC getting pushed and getting killed by train-kun. It was probably the biggest slog that I went through and I have ni idea why I read it to this day.

Honestly, I probably would have loved Domestic Girlfriend more if it wasn't so desperate to implement Murphy's Law as its main theme. There's only so many bad things that can happen at once before it becomes completely unbelievable. If a series is gonna be so ridiculous, I want to at least feel happy when I read it. Which is probably why I love Girlfriend Girlfriend so much. That's my Girlfriend titled series that I wish had gotten more traction than it did. 😁

The thing about this manga that i love is that it starts as a gigantic dumpster fire but from nowhere it start getting the best character exploration/build up ever (much better view on things than oshi no ko for example), and to top it of after you are involved with the characters the autor does a "try me bitch" and trows out the most dumpster fire ending possible on a manga.. that is true insanity right there.

There’s a torture method in one prison where you have to be blind folded and have metal music blaring in your ears as you walk into a cell, and I don’t mean the tame metal bands like iron maiden or ghost, I mean they would play extreme metal like cattle decapitation and the Dillinger escape plan
