I really hope someone still reads this.... I am a 38 yo woman who had a severe TBI 22 years ago. Completely learned how to write, tie shoes, etc. walk over again. I can't get any Dr.'s to listen to me, and I feel my symptoms like irritablity, ST memory problems, etc. are worsening. I guess I look physically okay, and I am afraid I will be in full fledged Alziehmer's before anyone takes me seriously. I am watching all your videos and been crying the entire time bc I can finally feel somewhat NORMAL and relatable. THANK YOU for making these videos!!!!

Take methyl B12; it runs short-term memory, and there's an actual B12 dementia that is not Alzheimer's. Low B12 does nerve sheath damage that eventually causes a 'point of no return', so don't wait. There's no downside to taking methyl B12. It helps with several things, like brain development for children, repairing damage to the ear villi from loud noises-- It's just too lengthy to explain here.

If this video made you feel good then you should be happy with the latest research about fitness, particularly weight training, strong bones and muscles contribute hormones that directly influence brain stimulation and of coarse heart health which together are even better, only having stinger bones and muscles will these chemicals be released too the brain, new science btw

I never had sound or light trouble. My brain sees challanges from others, understanding, beliefs, even facts I don't understand as a threat. Controlling anger, disappointments, even negative thoughts are daily challanging.

I am a survivor of almost 40 years, and I was never able to do any of these things. My accident happened in 1979, when I was 12 years old, nothing was ever known about this and my parents just pushed me out into the real world. I was in a car accident and had a brain stem contusion and was in a coma for 3 weeks and paralyzed on one side of my body. When I woke up, it was like being born again but not being able to move or speak. I had a trachea that destroyed my voice. Everything never comes easy to me and I am stuck in life and have been through the 40 years. I never thought of looking this up on youtube. I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching more and learning how to deal in life.

Hi, I live in England and one of my PA’s put me in touch with an BI Support organisation called Headway. You could easily find their website and they give very useful support. As you so rightly say, you have to have experienced ABI to begin to understand the struggles we have in trying to come to terms with the ‘new’ person we have become. It’s so hard and I completely get that. I find KZfaq gives me a lot of help, just to know that I’m not alone-others are in the same position, understand and our experiences can help such a lot. Many years ago, a speaker at a conference I was at wrote in a book I had, ‘keep on keeping on’. I’ve never forgotten those words as it’s help me through a lot of difficult times in my life and this ABI is definitely one of them. So please ‘keep on keeping on’ Christine. You are still the same valuable person, even more so now that had had this experience. You are sharing it and in doing that are helping others, like me. I very often feel absolutely worthless as I cannot do the things I used to do but, try not to listen to any of those negative voices that try to drag us down-much, much easier said than done-I know all too well. Keep on keeping on. With my very best wishes-if you think it would help-both us-it would be great to keep in touch. Eileen

After Multiple TBI, for several YEARS, my sound sensitivity made it impossible to be in restaurants, coffee shops much less being around music I loved. The tv and radio did not get turned on if I was in the house and it was 4 years before I could have the radio on in the car, even then it started with only being able to stand 1-2 songs and gradually build up tolerance to sound for longer. This sound board analogy is the first time, in 8 years of recovery, that I have found someone understand ~ much less be able to explain ~ the difficulty of distinguishing near & far sounds; the sound of the clock on the wall sounded almost as loud as the person talking to me. Thank you for this great info. Very pleased to have found your videos!

The people around me do not understand any of this (it’s still confusing for me). But when I’m listening to you it’s almost like you can see into my daily life and it makes me feel less crazy (if that makes sense) I hope you will continue to make these videos.

Ditto. I am alone. I live alone, on a few acres in a rural town, in central Florida. I got TBI 3 years ago. All my life I have been independent & resilient. Damn these lesions in both cortex! Life can be hard for all, but the added challenges & symptoms of TBI, our "invisible disability" can be brutal. My adult kids are busy. They don't get it at all. I am so tired of saying I'm sorry. So I am quietly waking away. Too much hurt. Is there any other disorder or "illness" that requires explanation? And is still questioned. Cancer. Heart disease. Kidney disease. Etc. So many treatment options! Support organizations. Most everything other than TBI is better understood. To need help TO GET THE HELP I NEED can feel too hard overwhelming hopeless. But videos and comments are a life line. Thank to everyone who shares some hope.

Would really like to talk with or communicate with others who have had a brain injury. Due to a fall, I had multiple skull fractures and many brain bleeds. I am no longer the person I used to be. I feel like I am a stranger even to myself. I am always searching for those parts of me that are gone. Family and friends do not understand what I experience on a daily basis because I 'look fine'. Any advice? This is a very isolating feeling. Chris

Call your state's Brain Injury Association and find a local support group.These are invaluable!!! The only people who understand are the ones who have been there. There is no way for anyone else to get what we live with constantly. If you can't find a local group, check Facebook. There are MANY great groups there where people give and receive valuable information and empathy. Best wishes!

this is great video. I take CBD & it is fantastic, reduced my seizures, verbal ticks and physical agitation. It can also reduce anxiety & depression. Lavender EO is essential for sleep. Frankincense EO can boost oxygen to the brain by about 28%, great for during the night & waking up refreshed. Please keep making videos as my family does not understand the symptoms.

Very helpful. The sound board analogy is spot on. When I become overwhelmed I've been mentally looking at switches and turning them off. the fewer that are still on the better I can respond. Having a sliding switch is a better visual. I was also given several of the essential oils you mentioned and do find that they are helping me Physically. And hey, if they don't physically help they are great for an emotional relaxant. It is something I can control and feel is within my power to aid my body. Plus I smell fabulous darling.

I am so glad I came across your video. Your description of "dishes clanking", listening to overhead music (while trying to look at a extensive breakfast menu at a new restaurant, to figure out what you want to eat) while "listening to conversations at another table" is so totally overwhelming, yet so hard to explain to another person. Only after watching your video did my husband finally understand what I meant the other morning even though I had used almost the same exact phrases. The mixing board analogy was perfect. Thank you for putting what our world is like into something other people can understand!

Earplugs are essential. I use MACKS, which are only 22 dB for places like coffee shops, driving and restaurants. I can still hear the conversation I’m in but it blocks out the background noise, it’s very relaxing. I use 33 dB ear plugs to sleep. They are inexpensive and you can get them anywhere, big box stores or your pharmacy.

Thank you so much for this video. I've never been told any of this. I was in a coma 31 years ago after being misdiagnosed when I had a severe E.coli/peritonitis infection. I had total global amnesia, but also a nurse gave me some medicine incorrectly in my IV, and it washed over my brain. I stuttered and could not make sentences, could not shop for anything for a couple of years, and I experience aphasia. This is hard to hear about now because I have suffered so much. I wear earplugs Everywhere I Go, and always prefer wear sunglasses. I've never been told any of this! I'm crying. It's been really isolating and I've blamed it all on myself... catharsis.

After my TBI 40 years ago, I've had issues with many sounds irritating me. For most so-called "Normal" folks, the sound of nails on a chalkboard sends shivers up their spines and drives them nuts. For me ? Doesn't bother me one bit. Now, crinkling paper (especially cellophane crinkling) drives me through the roof. Not all the time but when I am especially irritable and stressed out. People's mouth noises when they are eating drives me nuts as well. Could be they are just pigs though. Lol ! Basically, the more aware you are of your short comings the better off you are in dealing with them.

I've tried to explain this many times but people just do not understand, or do not want to take the time to. Which is a gift in a way to make me pause and take time to understand other peoples problems. On top of the filter-less noise storm, for me you can add hearing loss, hyperacusis, tinnitus and migraine headaches. Going to try some of your suggestions. Thank you.

As both a survivor of a mild TBI and a practicing medical professional...(R.N. and student psychiatric and neurological nurse practitioner...slower than I'd like) due to lack of funding, many products for people with TBI/ABI have not been validated by experimental research with a double blinded controlled trial...so please be advised that those of us in the medical community don't actually know what works without research...and not everything that says it was studied was part of an experimental study...which is very important...please always ask your physician or N/P or PA-C or specialist (Clinical Neuropsychologist or PT or OT) if something is right for you. Also, tell your doctor and if you have an emergency, the paramedics and emergency physician any "natural " products you are taking...they may influence medication or treatments given by your doctor.

No two TBI’s are alike. I have days when I can’t put two sentences together, can’t walk more than 20 yards, can’t heat up a can of soup then the next day I’m fine! I do some errands or slip or bump into something then I’m down for the count again as a vegetable. Good times!

Hello! I just watched your video and it is very helpful. I have a daughter who suffered a brain aneurysm when she was a teenager. She is now in her 30s but lately, she is having anger issues, and she gets irritated easily. Do you have information on how to handle this? Thanks

I bought ear plugs that it molded for your ears. Then I used earphones (they use for shooting) over my ear. I wore sunglasses and a baseball hat. And when I was a passenger in a car, I brought a dark towel and put it over my head.

Does anyone know how the Frankincense oil is applied ? Is it the same as the Lavender (back of neck) ? Thanks!
@BrainRecoveryCoach
@BrainRecoveryCoach 7 жыл бұрын
There is no "Right" or "wrong" way to apply the oils. I like back of neck, temples, and bottom of feet. I also like under the nose and inhale deeply. Having a diffuser diffuse them in your house is really great because it will last a long time. Otherwise, i find I have to re-apply the oils a few times a day. They will work better if you add your own intention to them, as in be clear about what you want from using them. Enjoy!

A great way is to mix it with your favorite oil and rub it on your feet at bedtime, put some socks on. That was while you sleep the oil has time to go thru your body and you get maximum benefit.

I know you mean well but putting essential oils on the back of your neck (which is NOT your brainstem for goodness sakes) does NOT cross the blood-brain-barrier. That is why we have the barrier - so things can''t get in that easily.
@BrainRecoveryCoach
@BrainRecoveryCoach 8 жыл бұрын
Hey Michelle, Thanks for your comment. I didn't believe it at first either. Do a google search and you will find amazingly enough that the aromatic molecules are so small, they are one of the ONLY things that do pass through. "Essential oils can also influence the brain by passing from the blood into the brain. The blood brain barrier is the most secure tissue barrier in the body. It is highly selective in order to protect the fragile tissues of the central nervous system. This barrier only allows passage of certain compounds that are crucial to brain function (glucose, some amino acids, etc.). Novel research has demonstrated that sesquiterpene constituents found in essential oils can directly cross the blood brain barrier because of their small molecular size (2-4). Although sesquiterpenes were particularly studied, it is reasonable to assume that other essential oil compounds, especially monoterpenes, which are structurally smaller than sesquiterpenes, can also penetrate the blood brain barrier. The effects of essential oils are far-reaching regardless of their method of application. Such powerful biological influence would not be possible if essential oil compounds were not lipid soluble and did not have small molecular size. These unique structural properties give essential oils powerful biological influence throughout the body. - See more at: doterra.com/US/en/blog/safety-physiology-bioactivity-of-essential-oils#sthash.QWgnL6PO.dpuf

That is absolute hogwash. If you know anything about the BBB you would know that the proposition that "small molecules are able to get through the skin and into the brain through OILS" would COMPLETELY DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF THE BBB. The internet site you quoted is SELLING ESSENTIAL OILS. It is NOT a scientific journal. They even state that their "novel research" is an ASSUMPTION. Assumptions are most definitely NOT part of the scientific process. It just goes to show that we all have to be educated and careful about what we read - particularly online. Don't be duped into believing the unscientific and unethical marketing hype that companies use to make money. P.S. I have a Masters Degree in Science.
@BrainRecoveryCoach
@BrainRecoveryCoach 8 жыл бұрын
I am not a scientist, but I did learn about that in an essential oils workshop years ago and there were several places online that backed it up. You got me wondering about this. My doctor says it is the SESQUITERPENES that pass through the BBB. Not all oils have these, but frankincense does. Here is more info: www.rnoel.50megs.com/pdf/theblood.htm Also, according to my Functional Neurologist, who is one of the most brain educated people I know, the BBB can become leaky with a brain injury, causing molecules to pass through that should not, which might explain part of the problem.
@achaputable
@achaputable 6 жыл бұрын
Michelle Franck There is such thing as a leaky blood-brain barrier that allows larger molecules into the brain (NOT GOOD!), but The TBI Coach is correct in saying that some oils do cross the barrier (if you do a quick google search you will find tons of info on it). However only EOs with high sesquiterpenes will cross, which is only a handful of them. Not all oils cross the BBB, and lavender does NOT.. But frankincense does. :)
