In this episode we share with you the side know one talks about when travelling Australia. We have been asked this a lot lately and even have met people asking us about these topics which we thought we would address.
We are very open about the good stuff and forget to show the bad side air times and we are guilty of doing that. We thought we make an episode sharing our thoughts on the side know one talks about and I'm sure you have your own concerns and we would love to hear them as maybe we can help.

The "R U OK?" clock cover might appear to be a simple decoration, but it carries a profound message - one that transcends language and transcends borders. It's a reminder that behind every travel adventure, there are real people with real emotions, going through real battles that aren't always visible on the surface. It's a reminder that even when exploring the world, our mental and emotional landscapes deserve attention and care. As I continue to watch your videos and learn from your caravanning experiences,The clock cover serves as a constant reminder that kindness is a universal language, and that a simple question can make a world of difference. Thank you for being a shining example of how content creation can extend beyond entertainment to touch lives in ways you might never have imagined.

Thank you for the lovely response. It is something Deryck and I are both very mindful of and always consider whether each other and others are okay. Kindness costs nothing and you just never know what type of a day the other person has had! I agree a very powerful message and one we should take the time to share! Again thank you!

Hi Guys We loved your comment about helping out other's. We find when travelling in the caravan, it's always great that so many people are willing to share fantastic spots to visit and tips to make travelling easier. Having the icheck tpsm Would be a great peace of mind for us while travelling and if we could help another traveller some day it would be put to good use. Some things we do as full timers on the road to make it more comfortable. Biodegradable body wipes, also use to wipe feet before bed. Stepping onto cleaner towel at foot of bed before jumping in. We food prep quite a bit, especially when going remote. This means meals pre cooked. Stored in freezer bags inside containers. We repurpose the freezer bags as our bin liners. The containers don't need washing up due to freezer bags. Cleaning dishes remote we wipe over with paper towel - then use in fire pit. Then we use the bio degradable wipes to finish up. When there is water for a camping shower - tub under feet to catch "grey water" repurpose to freshen up feet later or a sponge bath next day... I love my juicer so this takes a lot of water to clean and pulp to rinse out of machine. I do this when I know we will be passing some sort of water source. So pulp doesn't get caught in our lines. Water spray bottle can also be handy with cassette toilet. To use instead of the loo flush.

I feel for you Derek, so many times we have arrived at insta worthy locations and ended up locked in the van because we would get burnt to a crisp by the sun or blown over by the wind. We went to Jindabyne at the beginning of the year in January and a cold front come through. OMG it was so freaking exciting to see the snow on top of the mountains, so we made a plan for the day, take the kids to Charlotte's Pass and play in the snow. We were soo excited, snow in Summer! We were wearing as many clothes as we could layer up with. Got out of the car and tried to film the excitement. They entire time we were there my 4 year old daughter screamed at the top of her lungs because she was sooo cold. We tried to make it as fun as we could but man was it a downer. It was definitely a highlight of our trip so far. But it just shows the reality of what living this lifestyle is like.

We started laughing when you talked about the lack of personal space when showering and toileting. It reminded us of when the last time we were away. We have a small van with a outside toilet/tent. We stopped just on dark one night at a roadside camp, which was packed and the toilets were lock and both needing a number 2 badly. We had no choice but to grab the porta potty and put it in the kitchen of the van and do our business while chatting to each other and reciting our wedding vowels for better and for worse 😂😊 PS We live an hour west of Brisbane on a small property with plenty of room. If needed you can park your rig here when every you want for as long as you want

R U OK hits close to home. Have a tattoo on my wrist that is a close reminder to constantly remember to asks one another if they are okay. One simple question can make a persons day. You might be the only person that person has to talk to that day. Appreciate and care for others. Me and my husband can’t wait to get our rough rider next year and be all up in each others space. Currently we have a full house and shed but we are never apart, watch your videos in the shed together and eat and sleep in the house. Soon it will be watch it together in the van and sleep in the van. Cramping each others style as we already do. Love your guys messages and advice and lovely little bob up to mischievous fun that gels with your vibes. Thanks for everything you do guys. You’ve inspired us to go from a big house shed to a little house on wheels. Much love

Hi, great to know why the clock is covered :). We are a retired couple and a year ago we purchased an off road teardrop camper. Hmmm - first trip to a caravan park - we were in a deluge and it was the first time setting up - water up to our ankles and as the wind blew the awning up, I was holding a pole and was dumped with the water off the awning. Soaking wet. Next trip we headed off after a Christmas party and found out most people had caught Covid - after we set up we came down with Covid. Had to isolate and had no energy to pack up for days. Next trip after just 24 hours I came down with gastric and we had to get home for the convenience. We are leaving Friday to go again and by hook or by crook we are staying put. Could be another weather even - oh no!!!! But we still love it, and our luck has to change! I love watching you both and Bob - you are genuine and really showing us the good the bad and the ugly. Well done.

A hint for doing laundry when you are out in the boonies for a long time and are a bit short of water. Use the same water several times - IE. recycle it. We used to do three loads of washing in the same lot of water. Start with the least dirty things, move on to things that are a bit more grubby and end off cleaning up the fishing clothes. Worked a treat for us and we used to be out in the bush for three months at a time and had to cart water from the nearest town every time we got low. (We did have a 200 litre tank to move the water which helped).

Love you guy's and and your honesty. Couple of tips. We catch our water from awning and pump into van. We save a bit on water buy using spray and wipe for dishes not excessively dirty. When showering we wet ourselves, wash body then hair and rince once. When way off grid my wife has a bin/bag ands puts her used wee paper In to stretch the days for the cassette. For bed in winter. We use a fleece blanket as a bed sheet. Its a lot warmer and when you have to stretch washing you don't feel the dirt and no sand in the bed. I've got an old set of close for dirty work witch I use very often. Helps to minimise washing. If you like a clean van then you can wrap it in a clear gloss and keeps van and 4by cleaner and is easy to clean. Its self healing when scratch on the tracks. Love the vids and tips guy's. We live in Mandurah WA ex Port Elizabeth. Cheers

Oh I love this entire episode as people don’t talk about the ‘realities’ of vanning at all. Your talk about water was really interesting and tbh something I hadn’t even considered before. The honesty behind bathing with wipes and the dishes not being pristine was refreshing. Also the cheap linen - so many people have their vans looking all pretty and styled and I always wonder how on earth do they keep it like that if travelling. We had a hard lesson learnt weekend just gone ducking away for a lovely weekend break and we flooded the inside of the van during setup. Moral of the story was check that the taps haven’t bounced on during travel before you connect the water and that the tap is fully over the sink. 😩😩Thankfully a good nights sleep after mopping everything up brought a new day and a good time. Wasn’t the start of the trip we wanted!

At least if someone lets fluffy off the chain in the van you can leave, in the vehicle however…we’ve been known to be driving down the road with my door open as the window just wasn’t enough ventilation 🥴 Thanks for the content guys, it’s great

Hi Dereck and Sue, we are not far behind you in ur travels, missed you at Cape Kerapeur (not correct spelling) anyway just watched ur video as we always do. 3 things to tell you apart from fantastic video guys so honest and true. 1. how to get feet clean without water and get rid of scratchy heels. in a bowl big enough for ur feet (we use a aluminium disposable dish) add mouthwash and I add a bit of baby oil. soak feet whilst sitting at ur table having tea then swap and let the other one use it to. (so long as one does not have a fungal infection etc LOL) I do this at least once a fortnight and it works really well. 2. mossies and midges - make a mixture of 3 stale beers 1 bottle mouthwash and 3 cups epsom salts - mix well to disolve salt. pour into spray bottle and spray all around ur van. We did this at Knotch Point and not a midgee or mossie touched us and we camped there just after u had and only just down from where u camped. We only make a 1/3 of the mixture as hubby wont give me more than 1 of his beers. Lasted the whole 2 weeks we were at Knotch Point. 3. If we are anywhere near you we would be happy to mind Bob, we have 2 little dogs Frankie and Pixie (5 mths) and both are small breeds and love other dogs. Our home is Townsville where u picked Bob up. No cost at all just love dogs and love to catch up. This can be my and Greg's try at the free car help prize. PS: if we did catch up at Cape Kerapeur I was going to hit u up for milk for a decent cuppa as all we could get was long life and that just dosen't cut it with me so I had to go without for 3 days, Know u would understand. Ha Ha Bob is clean compared to our Frankie, she is a white maltese shitzu but most of the time she is orange too.

Hi Sue & Derek. I love your South African accents! You crack me up with some of the funny things that have happened on the road and love your channel. We live in Tassie and are pretty new to caravanning, we have only travelled a bit around our State but are enjoying part time caravanning. We purchased a second toilet cassette which makes a big difference when we free camp. I also carry them in black crates with lids (from Shiploads) in case one might leak in the back of our Isuzu MUX. Hope you come over to Tassie in your travels, we have plenty of room for you to park up for a while if you wanted to. I love Bob, he’s so cute. Stay safe & happy travels. Mike & Cheryl Richards.

To not kill the husband, I purchased noise cancelling headphones and I send him out on day trips so I get some me time. He would talk to every stranger, look at every rock, dead tree and water hole if he had a chance so he goes by himself and lets me know if there is anything that he thinks I would be interested in and then we both go back, that way he can photograph the things that he photographed when he first went out but in a different angel. You can't have too many photos. Van rules, no bugle bums in the van except in the toilet and for me because mine smell like roses 🤣 Same goes with #2's 🤣 I can't help it that my bodily functions smell better than his. Smelly feet, bugle bums and belching need to be down wind, away from me, preferably out of the van, unless they are coming from me and in that case it is allowed because mine all smell like roses 🌹 Wife is always right, even when she is wrong. Husband needs to recite this rule until it becomes automatic and part of his living, breathing life. Happy Wife, Happy Life......At least life is never boring with a wife like me 🤣🤣🤣

You are allowed to bury your toilet contents as long as it is 200 mm deep and not near a water way. It is only organic and can be done away from others somewhere on the road. If you use your camp oven after use throw it in the fire with some hot coals in it and it comes out clean.

Oh the timing of the message on your clock… climbed into bed tonight hours from home after visiting my dad in hospital. 3 pretty major operations shipped between rural and regional then Sydney hospitals all in the space of 10 days and i think today we may be starting to turn the corner 🙌🏻 How ironic that my husband and I were planning to go to Broome at the end of the month for a little getaway, after a REALLY busy time on the farm. Plans changed when dad got crook, holiday budget has been spent (and then some - thanks World Cup Soccer prices🤦🏼‍♀️) by me on accomodation in Sydney and husband informed me today that we are now feeding everything at home as it just hasn’t rained in so long. But it could be so very much worse 🤷🏼‍♀️Thanks for the reminder to look after myself though this and thanks for making me laugh - Sue you have got the most infectious and beautiful smile 😊

Have just started the scenario of full time travelling on the road now after 3 weeks. The battery system (not as big as yours) but handled 4 days no problems. The water but had ran out the day we left and toilet full. This lifestyle gets you into a routine and a lot of stress gone from the daily life of owning a house and working has now gone after now replacing the Ford Ranger for a Landcruiser 5 days in to our trip and the scan tool still probably would have been good on that because anything to do with the battery had to be reset many times.Really love your midweek very informative scenarios of full time travelling and dying to see you on the road somewhere.1 day to say g’day cheers Rod and Jenny
