The Timewriters

Күн бұрын

In 2013 a special transport over water left from Rotterdam to Amsterdam. A timelapse camera was installed at 30 mtrs high. The resulting film gives a unique and stunning view of the old Dutch waterways, in 4K. And, you will pass a few dozen different bridges that all open before your eyes.
Images were shot with a Canon 550d at an interval of 3 seconds, totalling around 30.000 pictures taken. In 2013 the film couldn't be published right away due to restrictions. After a few years it was forgotten. Till now.
Music: Dvorak - Symphony no. 9 (From the New World) - second movement
Here you can find a picture of the transport:

@@Aakash243 This is what Google Translate makes of the description: In 2013, a special water transport departed from Rotterdam to Amsterdam. A timelapse camera was installed at a height of 30 meters. The transport follows the beautiful old waterways of the Dutch polder landscape. Starting at the Rotterdam Hefbrug in the Nieuwe Maas, the Gouwe is reached via the Hollandse IJssel, where special lift bridges open for us. Via the Oude Rijn we pass Gouda, the picturesque villages along the various Weteringen fly past us. The Haarlemmermeerpolder ring canal takes us to Amsterdam to moor there in front of the bridge at the A10. We wait for the sun to go down. The bridge opens. What follows are unique images; a bird's eye view of Amsterdam at night. The images were shot with a Canon 550d 18 MP camera with an interval of 3 seconds. In total, almost 30,000 photos were shot. At the time, the film was not allowed to be published immediately and - as is the case - eventually forgotten.

You actually had me looking up if that's a real thing. Sadly it isn't. As much as I love City: Skylines I always found its North American style of city design rather disappointing, especially considering it was made by a European studio.
@wweweqws
@wweweqws 3 жыл бұрын
@@wasneeplus I guess the grid system of designing cities is truly a feature of the new world, but also a feature of designing a city relatively easy and efficient. Designing an European city is maybe impossible because most European cities have grown very organically and messy.
@wasneeplus
@wasneeplus 3 жыл бұрын
@@wweweqws it's not just that. There's very limited options for bicycle lanes, pedestrian areas, mixed shopping and living areas, stuff like that. The mere fact that shops have to be next to a car road makes it very unlike many north European cities.
@alfrredd
@alfrredd 3 жыл бұрын
@@wasneeplus Yes I hate that, most cities in Europe have buildings with comercial on the first floor and residential above. Also the fact that you can't create a pedestrian-only zone because buildings MUST be connected to a road 😓. That's such an american thing to do, you are forced to make a city that revolves around cars.
@wasneeplus
@wasneeplus 3 жыл бұрын
@@alfrredd yeah, how I would love to make a nice city centre with canals and bike paths, along with long pedestrian boulevards where people can go shop downstairs and then retreat to their balconies above. Or hop on a tram or metro when they have to go somewhere, all without ever encountering a single car. It's pretty much impossible to do with the current content of the game.

For your extra enjoyment, all the boats have a thing called: mariphone, this allows them to communicate with each other. This is why sometimes you get the feeling they will collide but then just didn't. There is a lot of communication hence and forth between ships and bridges, ships and locks and ships and ships. With the music, this just makes me nostalgic in some way. In the Netherlands you have a theme parc called the Efteling where you can observe the diorama. Which is basically a gigantic build of a miniature world with trans, boats and cars driving. Man, we have so much cars driving in our country

They're not that proud / chauvinistic compared to people from other nationalities actually. Should be, but aren't. Too down to earth (literally ;)) and just not in the culture to express chauvinism, which is often associated with nationalism and the Dutch are way too educated and sophisticated to fall for that primitive nonsense. And I'm proud of that. Because deep down we all know there isn't a better place to life than the Netherlands.

@@eeeesyywuwiz2836 Tell you a funny story instead: If you look at the map at 2:23, you can see that they made a bypass. The old shipping route went through the city of Gouda. However, the guy that operated and the locks there charged a ludicrous amount of mony for ships to pass. So a local investor and a shipping company got together and they dug a new canal and a set of locks (2:10) to bypass the expensive locks. So effectively, there were 2 routes from Rotterdam to Amsterdam. Given the fact that there are 2 routes, and this is not a very busy shipping lane, the lock keeper had a pretty relaxed job. A friend of my father was lock keeper for a while, but was fired in 1954, because he was too lazy/kept falling asleep. Captains of ships had to come ashore to wake him to operate the locks (pressing 2 buttons).
