WA is notorious for having camp sites booked out and no one turns up, leaving them vacant. 'A'holes book them under concession rate, (especially DEPAW sites in Southern WA) paying a minimum rate upfront, then adjust their payment if they actually go. It's infuriating!😡 Great vid guys - you're awesome 😎👍

the DEPAW site is a joke - you have to play pick a date and then another date etc - I have spoken to the ministers office haha about having a function to just search all vacancies at a site rather than having to enter multiple dates - all too hard apparently - as retirees, we are flexible and would book and plan around the vacancy and a week or two either way isn't a problem. At the moment it is very frustrating - what say others

Great episode guys!! We are like you guys and prefer to not book upfront as we travel. We have found that it's got worse since Covid 19. We were at Wooramel station 2 yrs ago and there was definitely water in that river. We've experienced it dry as well though 😊

Join the club …… we don’t like booking ahead either and yes we agree about the booking system and how difficult it is to jag a site somewhere but WA has become just so busy , something we are not ,as WA ites , used to . No doubt you are still enjoying yourselves but completely understand your frustration . We have been into Gladstone Campground many times heading north . Did you hear the Chiming Bellbirds in the early morning ? The road in from the highway is , during wildflower season ( August , Sept into October ) usually a carpet of yellow . The Wooramal River is an underground river like the Gascoyne River in Carnarvon and only runs when there are heavy rains further inland .

I must agree with old mate below here, pre bookers that dont turn up are a pain in the ...ask any traveller.. and another FYI for Big D,,,,1 huge advantage of having a dry creek/river bed is you can fish in there, and if your lure gets hooked up, you can simply walk out and get it, and not get wet ! How good is that? Keep enjoying the best state in Straya, and stay safe.

Lucky you not in South Africa now, you said you carry cash - you will be robbed while travelling dude. Love seeing you videos- hopefully you are still going this next year = we may just meet.

Well it's not even your fault. Some people just soak up all the bookings. Others want to take the kids away for a month even though they will be back for school in 2wks time. Again they have overbooked. Anyway all good. Perhaps you can stay where you are for several nights. It's a good place. Is it not? I won't be booking either. How do you know all will go to plan and you will be in a certain place at a certain time unless you arrive 10days early? Especially when you are booking months in advance. If you are just going from A to B on a certain day then staying there X number of days, then driving directly home again, that is one thing and you should be able to get that right. But for people who live on the road, I don't know how you can say you will be in a certain place on a certain day weeks or months into the future. I just noticed the clock behind Deryk as you sat down to that scrumptious Mexican chicken dinner and noted the time is quarter past nine. And then you go straight to bed after that? My goodness, how can you eat and sleep like that? I need to eat around 6pm then digest for 4hrs before I can sleep! Oh well, at least you had a good feed. Looked awesome food. Deryk and golf! lol 😅 say no more! How did Deryk know I was questioning the dinner timings? That he had to pull out his phone to show us the time! 🤣🤣 You two are just classic. Well done on all counts!

It was another great vlog my friends, Sue your hats look great , Derek you have some incredible fishing spots coming up . Don’t be afraid to hit up the locals to give you great free camp areas that are near a water body to 2 . Derek just a tip the tides and wind can be unforgiving please always check your barometer and as soon as it looks like the wind is going to pick up legit back to port my friend, the West Coast is notorious for fast moving currents and flash weather, which is completely different to what you would have experienced either in FNQ or SA. The rewards though are big fish and lots of fun. Stay safe, Travel well . Just 1 little niggle- a lot of pop up adds during this vlog guy’s.

The booking ahead scene is no fun. I find you really only need to do it when school holidays are approaching tho north WA is a unique case of limited options and heavy demand especially with increased travellers in recent times. Don't bash yourselves up about it - often unexpected gems surface out of necessity particularly if happy to head inland away from the coast. Not great for fishing but landscapes and hidden waterholes aplenty!! Enjoying your adventures. I have found water pumps are the biggest pain when vanning particularly if heading off the black top.

Great episode guys - DBCA booking system is a nightmare makes it really difficult to get into WA parks and every time we get a booking on arrival we find half the sites unused because people book and then because it’s quite cheap when they change plans just don’t bother to cancel. DBCA needs a blacklist / fine system so people at least cancel bookings they no longer plan to use to free them up for others.
