I don't know much about the seller and I'm currently unable to contact him as he has deleted his profile on the classifieds site.
If I contacted him, I would try to find out from him how there was so much money in this old suitcase!!!

Recovery process:
The first thing I did was remove all the old rusty rivets. Then he removed the old material from the suitcase. Then, using epoxy putty, I repaired some of the cracks in the wood case.
As a new material for lining the suitcase, I used eco-leather. The old protective corners were damaged and I used modern chrome ones.
The handle of the suitcase was also in poor condition, and I made a new one, recorded the detailed process on video.

这套苏联卢布发行之初，1卢布=1.11美元，中间20几年也算平稳，因为这一时期主要是勃列日涅夫时期，加之美国深陷越战阴霾，这一时期美苏争霸苏联处于攻势，苏联达到了全盛，七十年代也是苏联人民生活相对比较幸福的一个时期，但是也是苏联的“停滞期”，这一时期领导干部几乎成了终身制，特权阶层特权进一步加强，勃列日涅夫带头贪污，下面官僚办事效率和贪污腐败程度就更为严重了，地方官员基本上没有多大变动，可以一直当官当到死，而且有些官职可以明码标价，这样也使得贪污腐败更加便利。总之，勃列日涅夫给贪污腐败、特权阶层、低行政效率创造了一切有利条件，同时给后来苏联老人政治埋下极大隐患。这一“平稳”时期卢布最高时期可达到约1卢布=2美元。然而苏联的好日子却即将走向尽头。1979年底，穷兵黩武的苏联入侵阿富汗，从这一刻起，苏联走向灭亡的命运开始了。到1982年，苏联经济已全面陷入停滞，也是在那一年勃列日涅夫辞世。

Много лет назад в 90 стые, я купила на барахолке в Красноярске небольшой чемоданчик деревянный с инкрустацией, барыга какой то торговал. Много чего было, но меня тронул именно он. Внутри обит ситчиком в цветочек, но пожелтевшим и очень пыльным. Купила недорого. Попросила мужа снять ситец и почистить чемоданчик. Он разобрал его весь, и нашел такой же потайное дно. Нашел небольшую ученическую тетрадь и это оказался дневник зэка. Мужчина, по фамилии Потапов писал как во время войны его арестовали прямо на передовой за невыполнение приказа / кстати приказ был идиотский/ дали срок, отправили в лагерь. Он просил сообщить своим родственникам о своей судьбе. И был адрес. Мы с мужем написали по адресу, но там уже никаких Потаповых не было. Искали год, и нашли! Нашли уже его дочь и внуков! В другом городе, передали тетрадь. Мы отдавали и чемоданчик, но они не взяли, нам подарили на память и спасибо! Так родственники узнали судьбу своего предка.

I bought an old small suitcase (fabric sided) in my 20s from Goodwill (non-profit used store). In my 60s I noticed a pocket partially hidden inside and found a perfect one-dollar bill from 1823. Since I was having a hard time financially, decided to try selling it...received almost $200 for a one dollar bill.

But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.

Да, сумма внушительная. В то время можно было столько на эти деньги купить, и машину, и мебель, и аппаратуру всякую, да или просто жить несколько лет безбедно. Ждали наверное лучших времён, а они не наступили. Ещё раз убеждаюсь, жить нужно сегодня и сейчас.

Сундучок с историей) Судя по сумме внушительной. И припрятаны умно ...автор видео аж присвистнул и выругался... Закамуфлированны газеткой 50х годов. Значит прятали от возможного обыска и надо сказать удачно. Далее варианты.... А: деньги фальшивые. Б: не трудовые доходы В: шпионская нычка . Регион судя по газетке уральский промышленный. Наиболее вероятны варианты Б и В. Вариант фальшивые мизерный но возможный. Врядли это собирали кровью и потом по купюрке

I remember when I was a kid my grandfather would do clean outs an he was cleaning out a old widowers house who had really fallen on yards times after her husband passed years earlier when throwing out the old piano bench he busted it up in the truck there was more than $10000 in a compartment which he turned back over to her , it really helped her an was like a gift from her dead husband right when she needed it

An older gentleman I know bought a fixer upper house, and when going through it found an old chest tucked away in a closet space behind a wall. Turned out it was an antique Lane cedar chest. He showed it to me, and it had beautiful inlay workmanship done on the legs, edges and lid. It wasn't your average cedar chest. He sent pictures to the company Lane, and they told him the chest would bring around 25 thousand at auction. They wanted to buy it and said it belongs in a museum. That was over 25 years ago. Not sure what it's worth now, but the house he found it in cost him 20k. He made out well on that one.

Hi 👋 Northern Michigan here. As soon as that top fell out and revealed the stacks...I just can't imagine!! And this is exactly why I examine everything I find...especially if is old. I'm rambling I suppose but I bought this house last fall here in the states. It was built in 1947 and I have gone through most of the heat vents and cold air returns. Found a silver quarter from the fifties...lots and lots of old marbles from the same time. A cap gun from the fifties. No stacks of money though!!! The excitement of a possible discovery keeps me going. It is also why I metal detect. Awesome work!!

I think you are doing the right thing by searching old houses and objects. You never know what you might stumble upon. All my life I have not found anything of value anywhere, and here is a whole treasure at once (it’s a pity that it’s absolutely useless😁😁😁😁😁😁)

Очень красивая вещь получилась в результате реставрации . А клад внутри чемоданчика -- это вообще что-то потрясающее . Кто-то старательно копил и прятал , это же целое состояние по советским меркам . 20 тысяч рублей -- это , как минимум , две "Волги" . 🤔

почему бы не использовать натуральную кожу ? Для подобного изделия ее нужно не так много , но результат смотрелся бы совсем иначе . Например " винтажные" варианты выделки Ручку желательно было бы делать такой же как в оригинале - объемной , а не плоской И я бы еще изменил цвет фурнитуры в " латунный" или " медный" Из подобного сундука можно сделать шикарную винтажную вещь

@@mietdenni5094То, чем был обклеен этот сундучок даже рчдом с кожей не лежало. В советское время почти все двери были им отделаны. Так что для шкатулки, в которой можно хранить инструмент - очень дпже отлично.

Great job on restoration😎 I once found an antique hutch at a thrift store for 40 bucks I gave it to my parents which they had for about 10 years. We moved into another apartment due to Financial issues. My clumsy self slipped going down the stairs carrying this Hutch and it come crashing hard on the steps leaving the bottom to fall out with over 250k.... Boy was I stoked 😁 We never moved into the apartment we bought a house instead 😎 we never know where life changing moments can be hiding.. 🙏 now every time I look at old furniture I tap all around it looking like that crazy guy... 😂

Happened to a friend back in the late 70's. He rented a house after the previous renter had passed away. One day while looking through the basement ceiling rafters for some reason or another, he found an old cigar box. Inside was a little over $16,000.00 cash! That was a whole lotta cheese back then.

@@user-gd8zd3ye1f Дуракам вообще ничего не годится ))) 20 000 / 8 пачек = 2 500 в каждой пачке = 100 купюр в пачке. Каждая купюра ~ 5$ как сувенир. Каждая пачка = 500$ * 8 = 4 000$. Но ты продолжай играть в щелбаны )))

Отличная работа - просто загляденье! А 20 тысяч советскими - это куча денег! У нас двухкомнатная кооперативная квартира площадью 64 квадрата стоила 4600 рублей..Волга по спекулятивной цене - как раз 20 тысяч...Мотоцикл Урал с коляской стоил 1100 рублей! Интересная судьба у этого чемоданчика с потаями..

Beautiful and complete restoration. Finding the money was incredible to think that case would have been thrown out or burned with rubbish. I wouldn't have thought of looking at the bottom of the case too wow. The Russian car looks cute but I would have the Mustangs in different colours. Terrific vid and restoration thank you 🙏💎💙

As someone who makes clothes and doesn't really touch woodwork, I thought you were ironing the box after removing all of the covering- and then realized it was a sander, and went "Ohhhhh, that makes more sense"

Nah, I got an eerie feeling about that much money stashed in a box from the USSR. Probably a party leader who used their position of power for graft to save up such a large sum. No way a regular worker would have that money stashed away for a rainy day. And it was probably a "small" sum compared to the total savings for them to "forget" about it. A regular worker would never let such a large sum slip from their grasp.

В начале 90-х мой муж тоже принес свою заначку. По 25, 50 рублей советскими деньгами. В общей сложности, около тысячи. Когда эти купюры были в цене, это было чуть больше трех моих зарплат. Но к тому моменту, эти деньги в стране уже ничего не значили. Так и лежат, до сих пор, как нумизматическая ценность😅

Nice job.. my grandmother use to line old boxes and chests with newspaper. She said it helped keep the contents dry, and if you stored clothes or blankets, it could help with moth control. Good luck "cashing in" on that vintage cash!

in 1961, a Porsche 356B sold for around $3750 brand new. Meaning you could buy 5 Porsches at that time. I’ve searched the comments for a while, but I didn’t find anyone mention that you couldn’t buy a Mustang in 1961. It wasn’t made until 1964. Good show, btw! Cheers!

@@user-rp9qx3hg5u нет, у моего дедули таких сокровищ не было, а чемодан 30-40-х годов, из фанеры, обтянутой парусиновой тканью. Гвозди все проржавели и оставили характерные следы на ткани. Мне было страшно за него браться, казалось, что он развалится от любого прикосновенья, очень бы, хотелось сохранить. Есть чемоданы 60-70-х годов - они в лучшей сохранности и их я уже немного отреставрировала, а этот боюсь. Но, посмотрев это видео - решилась. Сейчас ищу ткань, может смогу найти оригинальную, того времени. Если нет, возьму новый аналог, но, дала себе время до лета (до отпуска) на поиски

So based on the comments and notes down below, it's 20,000 Rubles in 1961 Cold War money. But it's best value is as collectors cash now at around $5 per note maybe depending on condition. So about $4000 US if all 800 notes can be sold. Or if they could be spent based on US to ruble conversion that's around $250 US ... money move valuable as a collectors item than real use oh that is funny. And this was a very nice restoration.

What an adorable train case❤! I believe the ones that I recognize were by Samsonite luggage in the late 60s (plastic though) that one is so classy looking and a tad bit older but wowza! What a find and great restoration !

Мне очень понравилось качество работы. Всё очень аккуратно, профессионально и красиво👍 Но, так как я поклонница винтажных вещиц, то, к сожалению, для меня этот чемоданчик перестал быть винтажным. Он красив, но он утратил свой шарм, своё обаяние... Я бы с удовольствием оставила его таким, каким он был, может немного подклеила уголок и отполировала металлические детали, но не более и любовалась бы каждый день его потёртым очарованием😂

My Wife bought a purse from Meyer and Frank back in the early 90's and found a blank money order for $300 in it! Lol She said her aunt (who she was with when she bought it) made her call the store to try and return it. Needless to say , they told her that it was most likely a return and to keep it. I wish I had luck like that! Lol

You are very talented, and that case looked great when it was fully restored. I'm glad you put the Soviet money back in the case. As for which car I'd buy with that money, I'd probably take the Mustang, yet I do love those old Soviet cars (especially Vaz).

My father refinished an old dresser from the 1920's. He found 6 bottles of very nice whiskey in a hidden compartment. Called the owner, and he gave us two bottles, and kept the rest. Wasn't worth a fortune....but it sure tasted like one.

Sell the rubles individually to note collectors here in the West. On my two trips to Russia, we weren't allowed to bring currency out of the country, so rubles over here are probably relatively scarce. And they'll be even more scarce for some time... Excellent restoration. It struck me that perhaps you should have saved the period newsprint digitally, and relined the case with the images.

"Ульяновская Правда", 1959 год! Мне было тогда 5 лет! Мои родители постоянно получали эту газету по подписке, вплоть до 1975 года. Купюры по 25 рублей, назывались "четвертная", это была крупная денежка того времени. А чемодан, так себе, безделица, в то время были саквояж из кожи натуральной в моде и ценились. А такой чемодан мой папа мог сделать сам. Спасибо за видик, было интересно. ❤❤❤
