I am a Punjabi London lad but I am in the Navy so I am far away from home so I am watching this vid cos I sometimes miss all of this I used to go Southall loads as a kid it feels like an eternity since I had a proper Punjabi samosa

If there was no partition of India then most of Punjab would have had a nice mix of people like Southall. I'm a teacher in Southall with Pakistani Punjabi roots from Jhelum and we all have an amazing time which I feel other Punjabi's around the world miss out on.

Hello TheRenaissanceman65, My post was in the context of being of Pakistani Punjabi heritage and how being amongst Indian Punjabis feels very natural to me and vice versa with lots of Indian Punjabis (especially parents of children I teach) feeling comfortable with me. This rarely happens anywhere else in the world and even in the UK in places like Birmingham and Manchester etc where Indian and Pakistani Punjabis aren't as well integrated with each other. In response to your views on partition, my opinion is that partition was a huge mess for a variety of reasons which would require a thesis to answer and there was good/bad in all sides and eventualities but I feel that things need to move on from that now and that mistakes must be learned from and problems shouldn't be added to. I'm sorry that you don't feel like you belong to Southall despite being a native and your opinions/feelings etc are also shared by many 2nd and 3rd generation Punjabis who came amongst the first wave of immigrants to the area. I think this could be a result of the lack of integration amongst immigrant communities within the UK. If you look around the country lots of migrant communities tend to stick with each other eg Aussies in East Acton, Japanese in West Acton, Somalis in Shepherds Bush, Jews in Golders Green, Russians out in Marlow etc etc. I'm originally from north Manchester and my father was a successful businessman in the mid 80's and early 90's. Both of my paternal Great Grandfathers were British Army officers and were HUGE Anglophiles. My father left Pakistan to live the life of British Gentleman and found the UK a very different place. I remember in the early 90's, we bought a house that was around 15X the price of the average home back then and we ended up moving back to our 3-bed modest semi in the immigrant dense area we had moved from as "the natives" ran us out of the area. I'm of the opinion that the lack of integration could be due to situations like this along with several other factors in the past but times have changed. I'd now love to see a lot more integration, particularly within schools to really get a sense of British identity and British values, after all, all migrants leave their native countries to live the British dream so why not facilitate it? Theres lots more to say which we could cover in the future. I wouldn't want to disclose exactly where I work on the internet but i'm at a school in/around Old Southall.

kam i, My family are originally from a village near Rohtas Fort but my Grandfather moved to Machine Mohalla No 3 in the 60's. We have now been long-term residents of the Cantonment but are contemplating going full circle and moving out to our 30 acre farmhouse back in Rohtas. Do you have roots in Jhelum too??

That 1:23 chatka korner is my absolute favorite golgappa place after India, Went to london in 2019 and still miss the pani poori from this spot. I hope it survived a Covid hit.. can’t wait to go back when travel becomes easier..

Its pretty simple. Just look at the maths. We are a 1.3 billions of us in this planet. So you will find you/me/us everywhere. Whether its Southall or Jackson Heights or Gerrard Street or Surrey or Brampton.

@@borissavic4176 they didn't it's more complicated than that. Indian immigrants to South Hall because it was very close to Heathrow Airport. All the English people left because all these foreigners were turning up. Segregration was perpertuated by real estate agencies. Real estate companies back in the 70s artificially segregated people by allocating homes on an ethnic basis. South Hall itself has experienced a lot of further immigration. There are now lots of Somalis, Afghans and Pakistanis. A lot of Indians are moving out.

Football was supposed to be more popular but it's not in national level. It's been limited to few states only. And even some sportspersons are unable to earn their livelihood and had to sell off their medals in order to survive. What do you call this. Isn't this a waste of talent. The corrupt sports committee are just busy living in luxury in sports funds that are suppose to be spent on good coaches, athletes, ground maintenance and all.

Superb multi culti part of London with great people and food. And for this people who talk about litter on the streets....whole of London was more less a dump in the 90's...especially in the English neigbourhoods.
