I just wanted to say that your videos are truly a godsend. I spent a week in Boston about three weeks ago, and since it was my first time out of my home state I was afraid of traveling by myself. Your tips and advice were so helpful that I wanted to stay there forever. Hahaha. I carried around a reusable tote with my wallet, cardigan, water bottle, and baby wipes. All of my shopping fit in my bag as well. So, thank you!

***** I just traveled to Mexico with my kids (it's not their first time, so we were a little bit better prepared for this trip). How old are your kids? Will you be taking a stroller? Do you have any layovers? Man, I hope Sonia takes your advice and makes this video soon :-) I have a few tips but it would be the world's longest KZfaq comment if I started writing them all out. One site that really helped me for my first trip alone to Mexico with the kids was deliciousbaby.com. She has some great tips there. Good luck and have a blast!

Awesome! Yes, that is a little less stressful :-) My kids are 3 and 7 so you probably don't need strollers or Trunkis so they have a place to sit while you're waiting in line for Customs! :-) Have an awesome trip!

You could even turn the scarf into a shoulder bag and use it to carry your pouch of essentials! I know there's a tutorial on it somewhere on KZfaq.

Go over must have travel documents when traveling. I know it is wise to register certain camera equipment with countries before leaving the states.

Rhonda Underwood Mario Badescu makes a rosewater spray that I LOVE! I keep a travel spray bottle I got from Target (although the cap doesn't stay on so I tossed it) in the fridge with some of the rosewater and it's amazing after coming home on hot days! You can buy it on their site or if you have a Ulta by you that's where I get mine. :) soniastravels you should try it too! Smells so lovely too! :)

I always carry a knife and a lighter (or flint and striker). You'd be surprised how often they come in handy!

Oh the scarf. I missed that on my last trip. Couldn't get into a church because I had too short shorts, a scarf would have been great to cover up my legs.

Ayu Umi That's a very good point! A very valid additional reason to carry a scarf on. I've been to religious buildings in several places where it was mandatory to cover my head, and that was a rule for both men and women (in my case, a cap was sufficient).

I carry a big one that doubles as a shawl, head scarf, sarong or skirt- exactly to save me from occasions where I'm not dressed appropriately!

Not really. Most travelers forget to carry such essential items and end up taking a load of unnecessary stuff inside their day bags. A day bag is not simply a carry-on that fits the overhead bin on the airplane; it's the bag (purse, small backpack) you carry with you when you go out to visit the place you're at.
