In the 1980s my parents went to Switzerland and my dad had heart issues and was put in a hospital in Bern. My parents had no health insurance and my other paid payments for the medical bills once they got back to US for about a year or so. One day my mom got a letter saying the debt was forgiven. My dad and mom said that the people were very kind during what was obviously a difficult time for them. So if anyone here is from Switzerland I want to say thank you for your kindness to my parents and the care of my father. I will never forget it. I hope one day soon to visit your beautiful country myself.

I’m very nostalgic right now. I lived in Bern for 6 months since I was doing an internship with the Embassy of my country to the Swiss Confederation. I still remember when I arrived, it was July, the middle of summer. The most beautiful place I’ve ever been to for summer, the never ending evenings next to the Aare and swimming there. Then the beautiful winter, with some snow and hot wine. I met a lot of people and made great friends, most of them also interns of other embassies in this beautiful city. I made also a lot of swiss friends and from many parts of the world. Even though people may say it’s “boring” it also has great places for party and restaurants. I remember sometimes I could not manage the time, all days after work stuff to do, people to meet, places to go. Some weekends traveling to Zurich, Basel or other places in Switzerland (Bern is super central, and the trains are so good and fast). I continue looking for videos of Bern just to remember the nicest time of my life. Thank you Bern, you will always have a piece of my heart.

Bern is amazing! The best mix between medieval and modern architecture. I loved staying by the river and watching the bears swim. So sweet!

Bern was a great base for our trip to Switzerland, interlaken is only an hour away. And a cheap train ride. You can easily get to Geneva as well. I didn’t seem any of bern while I was there as we just used the city as a base , came in late and went to Interlaken and then Geneva .

Really? ^^ Must be because of the damn cold wind Bern has in the winter. I live in Thun which is at an even higher altitude but not as cold as Bern in my opinion.. xD

@Kaspar Born Wie scho gseit in Thun hesch meischtens ke Bise, was dr Grund isch wiesos mi in Bärn aube rächt chaut dünkt. Ussertdäm würkt dr See (u Wasser im Augemeine -> Siehe "maritimes Klima") im Summer chüelend u im Winter wärmend. Auerdings wiederum numme, wede am See wohnsch ^^

They aren't in concrete walls. They have a tunnel system with access to the pit and also a green part with lots of trees and a little pool, so they can swim in it.

Lovely, stunning capital city. Did you know, that most of the parents in Bern ignore traffic laws with their children and that many of these parents are civil servants? Youth in Switzerland deserve better. They deserve law-abiding, conscientious and ethical civil servants, communities and citizens. Their future depends upon this. Let's double traffic fines in Bern and watch law-abiding streets and adults appear in this capital city. Imagine!
