Escaping Italy | Driving Naples to London in 48 Hours | The Ultimate Travel Day Challenge

In this Italy travel video, we had to leave earlier than planned. We had 48 hours to get back to London from our base in Pompeii. With the travel rules changing, we wanted to avoid a 2-week quarantine and head a deadline to get back. This ultimate road trip was our biggest journey in the shortest time ever and resulted in driving through 7 countries in 1 day. Our day 1 journey started in Pompeii near Naples in the south of Italy. We then spent the day getting to Como on the border of Switzerland. We then woke up early for our day of crossing Europe but only able to stop and refuel in Germany. We won't be doing a journey like this again any time soon, but we made it to the Eurotunnel in time. We are used to European road trips but this is one we wouldn't recommend.

I would suggest staying in the UK for now (although it seems parts of this country are going into lockdown again). The risk with foreign travel at the moment is as Alex and Emma found out, the chance you will have to rush back home if the government decides you have to quarantine when returning

I went to Tanzania in 2005. Absolutely unforgettable experience. But if you are going that far, I suggest going during the animal migration season where the wildlife travels from Maasai Mara in Kenya to the Serengeti in Tanzania. Take a hot air balloon tour. Unforgettable!!

I think you can stop in one of the 'quarantine' countries, for example at the side of a road where there are no other people and you don't pick up people. However, I'm glad that you followed the rules very precisely, good travel role models.

I´d also vote for the Azores! They are beautiful little islands which are still cheap, unique and not overrun by tourists but they do a lot to advertise/open up for more tourists (It´s already been named the Hawaii of europe by travel agencys) and I´m little bit afraid that the Azores might have lost lots of their charme and affordibility in 5 years or so when Mcdonalds and big hotels ruin the place.

Me and the wife drove almost across the US in about 2 days. From California to Indiana, about 2000 miles or 3200 kilometers of driving. We only stopped for gas, food, and personal needs, we alternated sleeping shifts in the passenger seat. I feel your struggle 😊

When we checked all the rules before leaving the gov UK site said it was OK to transit through but if you get out of the car and mix with people, you should quarrantine 😊 Thanks for watching! Glad to hear you enjoyed the series 👍

on one of my delivery trips for my christmas wreaths, i drove from western Montana to Connecticut almost 2200 miles in 41 hours in November including a blizzard in eastern Montana South Dakota and Minnesota

Tanzania--the Ngorongoro crater then Zanzibar! I've been to Stone Town Zanzibar and then over to Matemwe beach and Kiwengwa. A great hotel in Stone Town is Jafferji House, their rooftop restaurant has a terrific view of the bay. Or Scotland---my planned trip was canceled due to the pandemic.

Hehe, we did the same thing when Switzerland announced everyone traveling from Slovenia should quarantine. We had a little less km to conquer. “Only” 860km. 😀 Wise thing to do to start your trip that early and avoid long long traffic jams infront of the Gotthard tunnel in Switzerland. Happy to see you got to England in time. For the recommendations, you need to come back to see all that Swiss mountain peaks& lakes in the daylight. 😉😀

After living in Switzerland and driving through Europe I understand what you’re going through but it’s so funny because after living in Canada and the US that length of journey we don’t even bat an eyelash at LOL

Ok, Beans, I have some questions: 1) Why didn't you fly? Is it because you own the car you're driving? 2) Why couldn't you get out to use the bathroom during long stretches of your drive? Is it because Brits are no longer EU citizens? 3) How did you go 12 hours without using a bathroom? Did you pee into bottles and jars while in the car? What about pooping? 4) Did you buy your car in the UK or while touring? 5) How is it that you were able to legally drive through all of those countries with UK driver licenses? 6) Why were you so determined to avoid quarantining? Wouldn't it have made more sense to continue touring Europe and then quarantine after getting back home? It seems to me quarantining is a small price to pay in order to continue touring.

It is their car and they needed to get back to have the car re-registered by the end of the month . Don't know about the licence part :)

It’s legal to drive with your UK license in all EU countries, however in some you might also need an IDP (international driving permit), which I assume they (being experienced travelers) have. As for not leaving the car during the drive, it was because of COVID. Basically if the country was removed from the safe list in the UK, they would have to quarantine if they left the car while being in that country. However, I don’t think the rule covers bathroom breaks. I think those would be allowed, as long as you’re not around other people.
