1:54 this is the single most helpful piece of advice i’ve ever heard about sketching on location!!! i’ve never thought about looking for a composition that jumps out at me, but it makes so much sense!! i’ve always ended up fighting with what i’m seeing and the places where things are, but now this has me really excited to try plein air again!! you have so much wisdom about art and traveling, thank you for sharing it :D and your strawberry vendor painting is so atmospheric, I feel like i’m experiencing the vibe of the place rather than just seeing a still image ✨

😯 the daifuku picture turned out so cute I never thought of using markers instead of paint in situations like that (even though it shld have been kind of obvious lol) I think the paint brush with the really tiny hairs is for Japanese lacquerware, like the black lunch boxes with gold leaves and stuff

Did you purchase any of the Kuratake or Boku-Undo watercolors? I wish that you would have a video about using them. They behave so different to most other watercolors. Should you only try to have one layer with these paints? Have you tried adding glycerine to your water to delay them drying on your paper? I especially love the shadow colors.
