My experience with Forks and surrounding area in the late 70’s was uncomfortable too. When I was 17, I went on a backpack trip on the Olympic peninsula with my boyfriend and another friend of ours. We’re white, middle class, kids at the time. The actual backpack trip was great, we didn’t encounter other people on the trail. After we came out from the trip, we spent a night in a campground outside of Forks. We were the only ones there when we arrived and set up camp. After we were settled in to sleep, a large group of locals came into the campground to party. They saw our out of state plates, and proceeded to hurl verbal threats while getting more and more drunk. We were sleeping on pads on the ground, no tent. It just got worse and worse, they started shooting and driving their pickups like crazy drunks around the campground. We rolled under our truck for protection, too afraid to try to pack up and leave. It was the most frightened I have ever been of other people. I’m sure not everyone in the area is like that, but there was certainly a dangerous and hateful element living there then. I have not been back. I see no reason to ever go back. I cannot even imagine if I were a person of color, I really don’t know what those people might have done to us. My bet is it would have been worse. I so very much wish people could let go of their hate, and embrace love for others. Sadly I have not seen the progress I had hoped for in my youth.

I’m black, my husband is white. We are in our 70s. We spend nearly two months fishing near Forks every year for the past twenty seven years. We have not eaten at any of the restaurants because we travel in a motor home and have no need for restaurants. With that exception I have found friendliness and a welcoming attitude every occasion I visited Forks. Thriftway, Ace Hardware, laundromat, real estate office, pharmacy, gas stations, licensing office, bank - everyone was nice, and helpful and I showed my appreciation. I take after my Mom. I smile and say hello to everyone in my path, I’ll start a conversation with anyone who stands near me for more than five seconds, I talk to dogs and cats. If someone has a stinky attitude I say a prayer for them and keep on being me. Life is great, and God is good. Sorry your experience was unpleasant.

Hey guys, just watched several of your videos for the first time ever. Good job. Here's my experience with Forks. Traveling with a friend who lives in Sequim, (caucasian) we used Forks as a 2 night stopover in order to visit Rialto, La Push and Second beach first day. Then Kalaloch, Hoh Rainforest and Ruby Beach the next. We had dinner one night at Pacific Pizza which seemed like a really fun place and I would go again. We/I shopped at the Thriftway Ace, True Value Hardware and Chinook Pharmacy & Variety stores, the last two by myself. I had a great conversational exchange at the True Value store and assistance and friendliness from the folks at the pharmacy. So, if you want to pass thru and not spend time there, you might try it out and have a chance to see those beaches. I surely hope you went to the Hoh Rainforest at least on this trip. We traveled on for 2 nights at Lake Quinault then on to the east side of the peninsula back to Port Townsend for the ferry. Happy and safe travels!

Hi! as a Seattle native and Twilight Saga fan, i too agree that Forks is NOT worth the drive. La Push definitely is, but Forks and their wannabe gift shops just don’t cut it. everyone working at the shops didn’t seem happy to see my Asian friend and I walk through their shops. i can definitely understand how you two felt uncomfortable in that town.

I’m so glad that I came across this one. My family and I were going to visit Forks, but we will definitely not go anywhere nor spend our money where we are not welcome. It’s such a sad shame that here we almost in 2023, still fighting the same battles from 100 years ago! But as much as I love Washington, I’ll be sure to bypass Forks! I’ll just watch the movies and be happy with that.

I grew up on the peninsula. I am very light skinned but let me tell you, it's racist. Moved to Sequim in the mid 90s. Anyone who is disagreeing just sounds tone deaf and more racist actually. That being said, the Chinese restaurant in Forks is a gem. Homestyle af.

@@schoolsgirl it's miles better as is nearly everything. Sequim is where i moved at 15. there's still the level of ignorance that comes from being somewhat cut off from any major city life except through screen time. I wouldn't want to raise kids there because it's boring. that was my main gripe and why im not ready to move back. they have a thriving hard drug scene but can barely keep one bar open past 10 on weekdays. I guess it depends somewhat on luck and socioeconomics. i still think about moving there again someday though

a great review even though it not sound like you had a great experience. From your point of view though it was real. To be honest, I have lived here 20 years and many of the locals are just as you described. Unless you are an ardent fan of twilight or really into exploring the rain forest there is not a whole lot to do or see here. And with the beaches closed there was some nice scenery you missed too.

I drove through that area with a friend who warned me of the attitudes in that area( the area was not interested in offering hospitalityand kindness to native or black people in general). I was headed to the native reservation at LA Push. When we stopped in forks I did not get out of the car for my own comfort and safety. I am black and my friend was native. When we reached the reservation I was welcomed with open arms and fed! I say just drive a bit further to LA Push and enjoy the coast . Thanks again for the research 😊

You just believe everything you hear ???? You seriously think the world is a lot more evil than it actually is. And I’m sorry for you. But you can always open your eyes and see how beautiful people and the world truly are. The vast majority of people are genuine kind souls who care about everyone (just like your family, they’re the same kind of people) but yes there is evil people in the world, people that steal, rob, kill, murder, or kidnap people. But no one with any bit of love in their heart would ever do that. you guys are the only ones keeping racism alive……. That’s sad man 😐

And it’s literally Seattle ???????????……. One of the most tame places on earth. In Japan they don’t even let black people into bars or restaurants if there is other Japanese people there. They have a “Japanese only” sign outside A LOT of bars I saw 3 on my first visit to Osaka, and 5 on my second visit in Tokyo……… it’s just socially acceptable there.

Great video. I live in forks and there are like 3 black people here. One of them is a lady who drives an ATV around and cheers for the football team. As you noted, this place is incredibly racist. Lots of good ol boy mentality. Did you read about the family who was followed, harassed, and trapped in the woods last year? It was national news. Lots of people involved, including the mayor's son, but the case has now been conveniently been dropped because snitches get stitches I guess. Forks is cool if you like bad weather, which I do.

Hmm...just mention of a correction here. Nothing at all was filmed here in Forks, especially not any scenes in the high school lol. Trust me on this. Also...it is a very small, quaint town with a population less than 3800...of course it's boring if you are not into hiking or fishing, which is what we are known for lol. As far as being "treated differently " I would have loved to of known at what place that was and seen video of exactly what happened. Did you ever think for a moment that the people working there might "know" the guy or gal who came in...NOT talking more to them cause they happened to be white. It is really sad to see people twist things all up like a pretzel I tell ya but whatever...for your information, being a small town they tend to be shy toward ANY new people. It hasn't got anything to do with skin color..christ half of the town is Quillayute Native or related to them and many are mixed race and color in this town. Maybe your waitress just SUCKED wherever it was you went. Nobody here has issues with any race. I'd also liked to have who your waitress was...poor customer service sucks and I'd have a thing or two to say to her even though I disagree with your assumption of why she didn't take the best care of you guys. I know I don't see color but boy it is often thrown up. I'd whoop some backside if I caught someone being otherwise toward you guys!

You and I know damn well forks isn't welcoming to any people of color, and some POC can uphold white supremecy. Being mixed, having mixed friends or family doesn't absolve anyone from anything. I know white folks in forks that are nice to "the good ones" and their mixed family, but racist as all hell. Bring up Indigenous rights and fishing and the racists will come out of the woodwork crying about it being unfair. I agree with their score and feel bad they had to experience it. Don't make excuses for anyone by saying crappy service, knowing the person... Or whatever, as a Quileute, my family, friends, and I have dealt with the similar experiences.

@@CoolOneNo the Forks I know is VERY open, do NOT go making the assumption that "you and I both Know" ANYTHING. I would have to say that ANY persons that have ANY racist undertones or outright blatantly racist behavior would be the wrong people to be around. They would NOT be inclusive of the majority of normal people here. For another point of interest though...I moved here over 15 years ago and I'm caucasian....trust me, ANY outsiders have the potential to perceive the town's people's treatment as "stand offish"...that does NOT mean they are. All small towns have clicks and are generally the ones where others know you took a crap before you even flush. It is not a big city like Fort Lauderdale, where I came from or Seattle where they were visiting from. I'm basically saying that there are so many Liberals in this town they would cause shit for anyone they caught being mean to another and marginalizing them. They just would not put up with it. This nice couple probably had a young lady who wasn't in the mood to even be at her damn job...bets are it had nothing to do with their race. Again, other people who were greeted "differently " when walking in...well, duh!!! They were locals who were known I bet. This is a town where everyone waves at cars passing in the opposing lane. It's just tiring to see the "race card" slapped diwn on the poker table whenever an issue is perceived by another as having to do with one's color. In this town we have gay, lesbian LGBTQ & Transgender people as well as Mexican, Guatemalan, Native and black people...heck, my friend is black and owns the laundromat across from Forks Outfitters! We have citizens from India who own the motels, a hairdresser from Vietnam who is always laughing and joking while she cuts big, burly logger's hair. This nice young couple more than likely perceived things incorrectly is what I'm saying and actually it's happened before when a few locals thought ANTIFA came into town...which was damn stupid on their part. Trust me the local Liberal population went on the attack against the "good ole' boys" BubbuhGrump. We don't put up with even the idea that someone is being an asshole whether intentional or not.

@@forkswacarnivore7531 I'm from here... I went to school in forks a good chunk of my life. I've resided here off and on for the last 30 years. While I'm not dismissing your group of friends, you are Caucasian, you don't have first hand experience with racism and the energy of feeling racial tension. Which is what this couple is referring too. You don't get to dismiss someone's experience because it is not your own especially when you're viewing it from a different and skewed lense. I've gotten the cold shoulder myself even being friendly with customer service, yes there are some that are nicer, and there are ones that are only nice to yt people. My family that commercially fish, exercising our treaty rights, have had their property burned and tagged with "river n****r". Your view of forks isn't the same nor does it speak for the entirety of forks. I know there's more liberal folks now than there was in the past, but the family that was chased out of forks was chased by a LARGE GROUP, not one or two folks. I know who the hairdresser, she's like an aunty to me, she's one of my favorite people and with the attacks on Asian folks as of late, especially in her career, I'm worried for her safety. You dismissing this couples experience and assessment because you know a few good white people, upholds white supremacy, the question is are you going to listen and assess yourself, or are you going to continue to be dismissive and compliant in white supremecy?

This is very sad. The Twilight fun factor has been fading for over ten years so that is a contributing factor to your poor fun score. The first person to greet you and bring you water at the restaurant was probably a hostess and not a waitress. Do to the fact the a lot of residents are still very cautious of covid would explain the looks, NOT because of your color. And the two white people that came in after you were probably locals. I’m sorry that you are out looking for and judging places based on your race. That is horribly sad. How about instead of promoting racism that you take into consideration all of the other things that could have been the issue. I promote unity and so should you. Who really cares what color you are? I don’t and I’m absolutely positive the people of Forks don’t either. I hope your mission brings you peace and that you feel your contribution in this life is making a positive difference for everyone.

Sounds like you have only watched one of their videos. Because 95+ per cent of the time their videos are very positive. And you missed the beginning of this video where they clearly stated this is the first video out of 50 to be like this. Just like you missed the end of this video where they clearly explained why they do these videos - to have fun and also to warn black and other people of color from having a scary or uncomfortable experience. You've also missed hearing about the incident outside of Forks last year where black campers were terrorized all night and no one has been investigated or charged. Seems like you lack observation skills, which would tell you that yes unfortunately we have a racism problem that makes some places unsafe for people of color. If that makes you defensive and uncomfortable then it's time for you to consider why that is.

@@rnillyn okay, first off, your accusations are part of the problem. You clearly missed where this is the view of two people, TWO. Two people who in THIS video were clearly looking for negativity and racism. I didn’t miss a thing.. They had one thing they were focusing on and their tidbits before and after, was a poor attempt to make their mission appear innocent by blowing smoke screens. This is so easy to see, especially if you know Forks. You are very presumptuous to think that I missed out and have no knowledge of the “black campers”… There was one black man with the other three being white. I’m not defending the actions that took place, what I am doing is pointing out the emotional turmoil our country was in at that time. With riots and threats of burning towns and businesses down, and then being exacerbated by multiple misleading posts, from a business owner two towns over. The fear was not only felt by the campers, it was felt by the people who thought their town was in danger. It is very unfortunate that this occurred. If you do your research this incident was first published with campers reporting not in fear and then later recanted and campers reporting a total different story. I followed this story very closely, from beginning to end. I reviewed every angle and the investigation. I recommend that you try to do the same which may mean you start by looking for the first police reports. I would like for you to push away from your keyboard and live, that way you can base your opinion on your own experiences. There is always a big picture and you will believe that something is the way you think it is if you are limiting yourself to only see it in one perspective. Just so you know how off base you are, I know Forks first hand, it appears that you don’t. Go visit, it’s not scary, unless you want it to be.

@@offroad.distraction So you admit you heard everything on the video and essentially are accusing them of lying because you think their agenda is to make poor little Forks look bad. After they made 49 previous videos and many since then somehow managing to not make other places look bad. That's a helluva lot of smokey energy just for Forks. It makes absolutely no sense. And yes, I've been through Forks numerous times and stayed there too. My experiences were boring, but fine. I also happen to be white. That means I'm privileged and don't have to worry about being profiled and harassed, don't have to worry about whether I'm going to be made to feel unwelcome and unsafe. I'm not in the habit of arguing with strangers on the internet and done arguing here. It's just upsetting to me that people are so close minded and tribal when black and other people of color clearly describe their experiences and are met with complete disregard and accusations of lying. This country is not going to be able to move forward and heal until that stops. Please consider why you're so quick to write people off who aren't like yourself.

@@rnillyn I never asked you to respond or continue to respond to me, arguing.. that’s on you and must be a new habit the you clearly are not done with. There most definitely was an agenda for this video and if you weren’t so quickly to write it off, you could see that. But as you also said, thats easy because it’s not like you. People on the internet want followers and the more they push an agenda, (unfortunately this one being race), the bigger their audience grows, then bigger the influencer they become and the more money they make. What sells? Sex, Race, Violence, and it is easy to use these subjects in a manner to create what is called internet mob justice. Look it up, it’s a thing. The bigger the mob the bigger their audience, the more money they make. I am not saying that racism does not exist, it does EVERYWHERE. It happens in all cultures with a long history of it. This video came in on the coattails of Forks making National news. The story that was starting to fade, that SOME of the people in Forks got scared and made some horrible choices, which resulted in a family of predominantly whites, from another part of the state, being terrorized. As horrible and inexcusable as it was these actions were fueled by the same fear being felt by millions and was riveting across the country. So what I am saying is this video was made by to opportunists. They saw the dollar signs and went to visit Forks. I have not accused them of being opportunistic in there channel as a whole. This right here is their business. You can follow their opinions and read it like the gospel or you can go experience life for yourself. Oh, and maybe if you did go out and experience life for yourself you wouldn’t be bored. Next time you are in the Forks area, go take a hike, that will keep you busy.

So your goal is to take road trips looking for racism? Of course you are not going to get 5/5 fun factor. If you are going to visit Forks, you have to realize that everything to do out there is outside, hiking, beaches, rain forest, but there are a few cute little shops to browse also. You also need to present yourselves as approachable people. There are a lot of amazing people in this little town. When I visit Seattle, I’m very uncomfortable, so I don’t go there. Which is too bad, because there are a lot of fun things to do. But I’m not black, Asian, liberal, or rich. The only fun people I come across in Seattle are bartenders. No one smiles, they are always in a hurry and rude. Again, I avoid and loathe Seattle. Go find adventures that you like! And actually have fun! The beaches over there are amazing, great hikes, lots of waterfalls, and just beautiful scenery!

Racism is a reality that you are oblivious to. That is not your fault but you are ignorant of what it is like to experience racism. You have no clue. This site is for Black people and black people dont have to look for racism. They are the most loathed group in this country. It is no mystery. You dont understand how to view anything from another persons point of view. I am light skinned black by the way. I have experienced racism and I can pass for white. I can see this from a eurocenric and afrocentric lens. I have gone to college and read books on the subject as well. Your gaslighting is ineffective here. Read some books from a perspective other than your own or just stfu and sit down because your ignorance is apparent.
