I dont get the people that instantly goes "dont like leave" as soon as something not 100% positive it said. No country is perfect, and we could all learn something from each other. Like danes, we could really learn to be more open and let people in, it is nice to have a different new view of your culture. Which is why this channel is so nice, you get a look into how people from a different culture feel and think moving here which is awesome - love both the positive and less positive stories you share.

My guess is that it's some national pride thing. That's been my experience when I've encountered that argument. Like criticising your own country must mean you hate it. I've always felt that highlighting some negative about your country is a positive thing. It's acknowledging that it's not perfect and that there are things that could be improved. Ignoring the negative stuff can just let it continue to get worse

First of all as a long time follower on your channel, I am so happy for all of you, that you feel at home, and really settled in despite the ups and downs, that basically anyone can expect to experience regardless whether they're expats or stays domestically. Also, getting integrated into another society doesn't mean you have to lose any sort of national identity, cultural herritage or anything alike, you can still embrace being American and still feel like being a part of Denmark as well. Embracing a lot of different cultures helps us develop tolerance and understanding for our fellow humans. Just ignore those few haters who got a stick up their ass. They're everywhere in the world, but luckily not the majority.

My Storebaelt bridge story. My dad was going to a conference in Aarhus at the university. Me and my wife decided to tag along with my dad and mom. We have danish ancestry. We stayed a couple of days in Copenhagen by Tivoli. Then picked up a rental car and drove to Aarhus. We figured the bridge would be faster then the ferry to Aarhus. Wrong. A truck of pigs overturned on the bridge. The pigs escaped on a protected habitat island. They spent 5 hours hunting down the invasive pigs and cleaning up after the truck before they opened up the bridge again. We spent hours parked on the highway. Everybody turned their engines off and wandered up and down the highway. We had some really nice conversations with fellow motorists. Yes, crossing the Storebaelt bridge can be difficult.

I heard an American who was a producer or making dance teams or whatever… he said he had a hard time in Denmark at first… but he now said, that he love Denmark, and it’s because the culture forces you to be your authentic self, whereas he felt in US people really don’t give a darn, and it becomes more pretentious, you need to show a version of yourself and not yourself, and he became quite affectionate about Denmark as time went on. So perhaps that’s a part of what you feel as well?

Many Americans (I am American) are trying hard to be special. But what's that? I am in Copenhagen for a few days now and "The Danes" seem completely opposite to the Americans. Modest and authentic.
@Christian_Bagger2 жыл бұрын
@@thomasbarchen Lived in VA, Virginia Beach for 4 years and I consider US my second home at this point. Danish culture is based a lot about collectivism and if you want, you can look up the “law of Jante” which stems from litterateur, but had a profound impact in Scandinavia. It’s pretty much ingrained into our cultures’ subconscious (even though we hate to acknowledge it). Very tight and humongous.. and contrary to many American beliefs: we’re absolutely not socialists over here 😂 - the foundation for our modern society is heavily based upon capitalism. In contrary to the States, an election will have an impact on your life in one way or another. There’s currently 17 (which 4 of them are from Greenland and the Faros Islands) parties in the parliament, and the government is almost always a minority government which put them in a position that they’ve to negotiate across the middle most of the time. Personally I really like it that way, because it gets more democratic imo. since many views and voices gets heard, and sometimes the minor parties tips the scale in the negotiation so they can have a relatively big voice sometimes. And I can go right now and travel to Copenhagen and try to acquire 20.000 signatures for a charter to participate in the next election if I wanted to.

I think its great to love where you are from. But that love should, in my opinion, make you want your home/country to grow better. If you react towards any sort of criticism with "Then leave!!", then you are trying to force what you love to stay the same for ever. Nothing stays the same forever. Instead, try to use that love to help make your country grow and turn into a better place. Denmark is great, but we can always do better. And im sure people like you moving here, contributing to our understanding of our self and the world can only take us in that direction. So thanks for coming, and thank you again for staying :)
