We've left our narrowboats behind to ride trains around France. It's excellent, but it's not always fun at the time.

May I suggest Colfosco in Italy for a family trip sometime? We stayed there/chilled there for weeks in 2016 and there is everything for young families: tame rope course, adventure park with goats and tiny wooden cottages, a pizza place on the way to Corvara that will pick you up to come and eat, restaurants with trampolines and yard games for kids, a darling path with wild strawberries along the route to Corvara, groceries in both places, walkable restaurants in Colfosco and Corvara, bakeries, cafes, gondola rides up to alpine restaurants and a flat plateau to explore on little easy hikes, bikes to rent if someone wants to stretch their legs, longer hikes, wildflowers, streams to play in, little backyard chickens and pretty places to stroll, and so on. And a cozy alpine ski apartment to stay cozy if there are wild summer storms. We approached Colfosco from the Bolzano area - another great stop with nature and museums and Otzi museum. We loved it from ages 9-79 - our ambitious hikers and bikers had a ball, and those of us who feel the day is full watching the storms lash the lovely mountains while we feast on the local bread and cheese and jam and ham bought that morning while we play board games and wait for the rains to clear before we walk to yet another amazing meal ten minutes away. :)

My mark, for what it is worth out of 10, is 10 . That mark is for all the work you put out as a family, it is first class which ever way you appraise it. One comment and it is only a comment. Jo hardly ever ends a sentence in her own dialect, almost like it is shameful. It is not and coming from such a beautiful face it is a Northern gem. So please Jo keep that gem polished, you are a wonderful example of a Northern Belle, keep up the good work. You all deserve each other and we fortunately are the benefactors. Thank you so much.

I’m exhausted for you! Wondering when the relaxing was going to start but maybe I’ve missed the point and your holiday is all about trains. Many years ago we stayed in Vannes Marina when we sailed our friend's yacht back to the UK from Brittany. It had a tidal lock gate (your sort of expertise) and a really difficult passage with huge currents out through the estuary to the Golf du Morbihan. We did it with three children including a very mobile toddler so this video brought back amazing memories of that trip. Our toddler is 37 now!

I love it when you guys travel. You make it all seem so effortless when we all know its not. Esp traveling with a child, no matter how well behaved said child seems and is +90% of the time. Your air BNB selections are amazing as well. Thank you for taking us along the journey & sharing it with us. There are times though when I miss seeing the old style trains that had separate compartments that seated 6 people, and had a door one could close. Those were so cool to travel in, especially when the train wasnt busy, cause you had your own lil cocoon for yourself & could move the seats down a little to sleep. They had small tables & a window that opened half way down.Thems were the days. But I guess it wasnt as economical, not as many people could travel & at the high speeds they go at now, it wasnt considered safe nor was it accessible for all either. Now those were deffo the real rust buckets amongst trains hahaha (cause noticed how I didnt say that those seats were comfi lol) The cool thing is to see just how fast and far you guys travel because of the newer style trains. I loved all the confessions in this video as well ;) Looking forward to next weeks video! Enjoy your journey!

Wow... you travel long distances ...I need to learn from you as I've never been a train traveller apart from when I lived in London and when I have in UK it was always a fun mystery adventure navigating on / off / platforms. Seeing so many new places is a feast for the eyes...and fast travel... the opposite to canal boats! Shark and Crab can be friends.

Could it be that Jo finds traveling on a schedule stressful because she seems to be the one being in charge of the schedule? Seems like she’s the one who knows which train to take, what platform to be, what destination’s next, etc. Plus booking and choosing the accommodation…. #mentalload No problem of course if this is a conscious decision for you both, but it seems to happen a lot, women (especially mothers) not really going on holiday, but changing their day job to tour guide for a week or two ;)
