Esky is original a brand name that stuck the same as ugg is a brand name that has stuck to that type of boot. Ute is the short word for utility - as in utility truck these are decades old words even the word stubby would not be found in other countries.

A Ute or "utility" is an australian invention. In a letter to Ford Australia's then-boss, Hubert French in 1933, from the wife of a Gippsland farmer asking why it was that Ford didn't offer its customers a vehicle that would take them to church on Sunday and then cart the pigs to market on Monday. The 'coupe-utility' that Ford Australia developed in 1933 not only formed the basis of every locally-made ute, it was also the granddaddy of every utility sold anywhere in the world, including the Aussie ute's North American cousin, the pick-up truck.

Hi, I really enjoyed this lovely video :) However, a lot of these words are Eastern States words, togs in WA are bathers, servo is a garage or petrol station (but a person in WA would know what a servo was, we just don't use it), bottle-o is a liquor store. On another note, Esky was a brand and is used the same way as every vacuum cleaner in the UK is a Hoover and ute is short for utility vehicle.

Try saying the name of these cities in Hungary: Miskolc, Debrecen (this is my home town ^^), Szeged, Eger, Győr, Füzesabony. ;) You should also look them up on the map and perhaps find out why they are important (except for the last one, that's just a smaller town, it's not so famous, other than it has an interesting and beautiful name in my opinion) and tell us what you have learnt. ;) Bonus question: Which city is the biggest one in Hungary after Budapest both area and populationwise? ;)

so for those interested in where/how we came about the woods bottle-o bottle shop, or op chockers, comes from chock o block rhyming slang for filled to the top esky, is a brand name, like some people will use klenex for tissues fair dinkum, comes from dinky die, which I knows is another twisted rhyming slang servo, comes for service station akin to the same shortening as bottle-o she'll be right as explained, stubby holder comes from the beer bottle types, the stubbie being a short and squat looking bottle, and long necks and tallies being the other main styles, and the stubbie was a common over the counter beer, and a way to keep it cold (something important with the heavy larger style that was once the mainstay of beer here) tog, so this differs greatly state by state, swimmers, cozzie, bathers, all are used, cark it, casket as in once dead, you're next home is a casket woop woop was a place, and it was a fair way out, much like the black stump (there was a black stump, is was was a marker in a town, that town was a long way from the major towns, and beyond that, no a lot, so we also use, beyond the black stump, out back of woop woop, etc (as a side note, "down the road" in aussie slang can mean anything from 10 meters, to 1000kms, and often context is implied, and never given) ute is utility, or something that is the utility version of a family based car, (so, normal looking car at the front, the front seating area will be the same as a car, but a truck like tray at the back) u-ey, is easy

Some of these are state and city specific. People forget since Australia is a country slang will change city to city and state to state. Togs is a QLD thing (I didn't know that one either, until I looked online). Eg Eshay/HK started as a very Sydney thing so I know slang words like that, since I live in Sydney.

Hey guys. I’m an Aussie here. When you said Woop Woop isn’t a town at 8:22 it actually is. Colloquially, Woop Woop means the middle of nowhere. It’s defined as "a remote and supposedly backward rural town or district." Woop Woop was a mill town southeast of Perth Western Australia. that came into existence in 1925, before being abandoned and sold for scrap in 1984. So now it really is in the middle of nowhere.

The Esky was created by Malley's, a Sydney refrigeration business. Some historians have credited Malley's with the invention of the portable ice cooler.[1] According to the company, the Esky was "recognised as the first official portable cooler in the world."[2] The company's own figures claim that by 1960, 500,000 Australian households owned one (in a country of approximately 10 million).

Traditionally, a 'bottle-oh' was a guy who made his living by collecting empty bottles for sale for recycling. It was a pretty thin living, so the slang term for being really down the social pecking order was the guy under the bottle-oh: the bottle-oh's rousabout. The original Esky had a logo of an Eskimo on it, and it was clear the name was short for Eskimo. 'Fair dinkum' means real or genuine. "The fair dinkum article." Names for swimwear vary by location. Togs, bathers, swimmers and even the cossie. 'Togs' can also mean clothes in general. 'Cark it' comes from carcass. Note also the versatile "had the Richard." 'Ute' comes from 'utility vehicle.'

Togs is a regional thing. I'm in WA and we call them bathers, I'm fairly sure there's other states that do this too. Most people here don't know what "togs" are lol. Fun fact: in WA the nature strip outside the front of your house is called a verge (they call it this in the UK too). We're the only state that calls it that.

Aussie Minifan Aldi is as close as it gets. The others you mentioned are bottle shops attached but not in the supermarket....mate. Have you shopped outside of the country? Obviously not. In the supermarkets they're talking about the alcohol is in isle 8 as in a whole dedicated isle and not nextdoor. Big difference.
@4x4ozventures10
@4x4ozventures10 6 жыл бұрын
Ken Lawton I’m telling you can buy alcohol in supermarkets, the bottle shops are owned by the supermarket chain (unless it’s Aldi/IGA which mostly have a liquor section ) and mostly inside the Building. And I have seen BWS and liquor land towards the back of a supermarket which is technically apart of the supermarket as its owned and operates within the building and yes then there are those externally. I have seen an isle for alcohol in an IGA that did not have a separate register or walls separating it this was because of its layout. And yes I have shopped in both rural and city supermarkets. Rural being small IGA expresses to woollies in Major cities.
