I'm slowly getting through your videos and I'm finally here at S7. As is my norm, i go to bed watching calming things before turning the lights out and your videos are so restful and peace inducing. Thank you for bringing us on your journey. I wish I was there. I thought that engine would drive you / me nuts after watching your first show . Then , not sure when, I started missing the sound, and realized it is very relaxing , calming. Now I play reruns to fall asleep to ... that single cylinder sound is better than anything else to get to sleep ... Out like a light. Your journeys are teaching me to slow down and just breath. Thank you for all your time and generosity in sharing your life ... you and Aslan bring happiness and smiles into my life. I hope you’re happy too!!

You are my hero. I wish I had the courage to just sell out, buy a narrowboat and live life at 2mph. Enjoy it for all the rest of us. I fall asleep watching Travels by Narrowboat, there is something about the sound of Aslan's engine that comforts my soul. LOL, If you ever need a boatmate, I am your candidate!!! BTW, I think I will leave the anchovies out of my pork pie!!! LOL

Was rewatching the first season on prime, and just heard you dismiss advice to avoid the canal where you were attacked. I know sometimes people are dismal and seem negative, but he was right. I often I feel as though the Universe gives us little nudges towards or away from something. Although I suppose it was the pub that ended up being dangerous more than the canal. I was attacked, beaten and they tried to drag me into a car full of young black kids, when I was 19. Quite the harrowing experience. I'm 54 now and I still carry the scars. When I saw what happened to you, my heart broke for you. I'm so glad your ex wife came to help. Being the victim of random violence and rage really shakes you to the core. But I will say that my experience awakened a sort of foolproof internal radar in me. I can now sense danger miles away. I hope you're feeling the same. And thank you for the hard work you put into these! I can't tell you how enjoyable they are. I've seen many others trying to do this but it's just a camera pointed at them talking the whole time. You and The Mindful Narrowboat are the only ones I've seen which allow us to feel that we're floating along the canal with you. It's brilliant! Sending warm wishes from 2 Los Angeles natives moored up in Chicago, dreaming of the British countryside.

Indeed in hindsight I should have headed the guy's advice but such is life. It's very true that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and I believe I gained far more from the attack than I lost. 🙂

We thoroughly enjoyed the little ditty you put together for your intro! My wife goes around the house in the mornings singing "Boom boom boom yeah". It's actually a fun song and you ought to do more of that. She is a music lover and loves your Rush tee shirt. We both talk about (dream about) what sort of engine we would want on our narrowboat. She says diesel for sure because of that soothing sound. I've not made up my mind. We were saying this morning that we don't feel our lives will be complete if we don't get to experience the narrowboats and canals in our lifetime. This is something we've decided NEEDS to happen, and we truly wish to spend a good amount of time over there to see all of the historical buildings and bridges. We live in the U.S. and would have to figure out Visa's and such. I wouldn't be satisfied with only 2 weeks. I want at least a couple of months if not more. Btw, that guy at the beginning was a total "Richard Cranium". I hope he didn't rent to much space in your head. Not worth it. He acted as if he made the rules for the entire canal. Take good care and keep the fantastic content coming please!

I enjoy your cooking segments. Forgive me if this has been asked a dozen times before. Have you ever used cast iron cookware? I thought a cast iron pot to go into the boatman's cabin stove would be nice. There's nothing like it for roasting and searing meat, deep frying, stir frying, stews and desserts! They also supply iron for health. Once seasoned and with proper cleaning (never use soap) they are lovely surfaces on which to cook. A bonus, put on a cowboy hat and play a good 'ol Western song while cooking to impress the gals. Cheers!

Top tip for those swing bridge’s is to have 3m of chain a carabiner and a length of rope, attach the carabiner chain and rope to the swing bridge and keep the rope end on the side of the canal your mored. When you open the bridge the chain falls to the bottom of the canal so you can float over it safely without snagging your prop, once you’ve passed the bridge walk back pull the rope and the bridge will close.. It works almost every time unless a locking function has been fitted to the swing bridge to keep it open/closed 👍🏼😎

Hi Kev. I believe an electric fence is supposed to have a warning sign attached to it. Especially at that point where people are obviously going to be in touching distance. Those swing bridges are certainly difficult for a single boater to operate.

When I was young and inmanure, my mates and I grabbed the electric fence with one hand and connected hands with the other. I was last, so I got the most charge and I never seemed to be quite as hairy as my friends. LUL! I would do it again now to keep the hair from growing out my arse, but I might have a heart attack. LMAO! Sometimes 24 months feels like a lifetime, but 25 years ago, feels like yesterday. They say time flies when you're having fun...but I think it flies every way.

After watching you loose your footing and wrenching your leg and hip like that, I thought over the next few days you were rather nimble and spry, climbing onto banks, locks, walls. @PeterPanMan
@PeterPanMan 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, may a true fan make a suggestion? Like a (very) few previous episodes, this one could have used a "bridge" (metaphorically speaking) between it and the preceding episode. You did briefly mention in Rufford Canal #1 that you were going to lay-up for a month but that wasn't enough to maintain a sense of continuity between watching you travel through chilly, leafless England and then ,seemingly, next day you're gliding through warm, leafy countryside in Rufford #2. Maybe you're so accustomed to going under bridges that you don't see a need to make one every now and then? :)

I don't understand the logic of not providing landings on the operating side of those swing bridges.

I do hope the muscle tear was not in the Iliac Arch. I did that a few years ago. (it sounded like velcro opening) All those muscles hang on that attachment, and if it is torn, they drop onto a nerve that runs down your leg. Similar to Sciatica, but on the outside of the leg. Here's hoping yours is minor and recoverable!

What a treat to wake up to this video! Thanks! Didn’t get to see how you managed to close the swing bridge again after you passed through. How could you reach it?

Well that will teach me to comment before I have watched the entire video- lol. I think I have answered my own question.... but wow- quite tricky isn’t it?

We have nothing that compares to this in the US now, as sadly there is garbage everywhere you look, even some of the wealthy neighborhoods.
