A couple of weeks ago I bought a one way ticket to Vilnius, Lithuania simply because the ticket cost me 20 euro from Iceland. Prior to purchasing this ticket I had no idea where Lithuania was or that Vilnius was even a city! How crazy as that sounds, I know for a fact that there are many people out there who also have never heard of Lithuania before! After spending a few days here I truly fell in love with this city and the country as a whole! his video was filmed on my first time walking around the city. I hope you enjoy it!........ I worked in Vilnius in 2014 and never left to return to the USA. Its safe, they have super fast and cheap internet, but mostly - great pubs!

Very clean safe and quaint City, mostly friendly, beautiful stylish people although they are slightly reserved, but thats not a bad thing. The countryside is full of lakes stunning forests with fantastic summer weather most years. The winters can get very cold but believe me but when you see a frozen white forest and snow covered lake with a pink sky at sunset or sunrise it's incredibly beautiful.

All 3 Baltic countries Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia are Northern Europe. All beautiful, clean, good food worth to visit. All 3 capitals Vilnius, Riga, Tallinn have stunning architecture, old towns in UNESCO World Heritage List

@@yankis. You right. At least CIA Facta book should follow the UN classification of Baltic countries as Northern Europe. Old classification of Europe dividing countries in West & Eastern Europe in 20 century according to political & military blocks doesn`t work in 21st when Baltic countries are members of EU and NATO.

I did basically the same thing ten years ago. I had never heard of Latvia but found a super cheap flight from Sweden. From there I visited Lithuania and Estonia and omg I was so amazed! I went back a second time a few years later because I loved it so much the first time.

Visit Trakai Castle. It is a castle on an island. Trakai is former Lithuania capital. You will not regret it. At summer it is beautiful there.

Suggestion for the future: buy tickets and film vlog how you do that with asking for recommendations what to try/to see in that country/city -> post the video to youtube -> travel -> try something from recommendations -> look how your numbers of subscribers are growing:)

Some things you should visit if you're ever coming back : 1. Formosa Bubble Tea, its a bubble tea chain excusively located in Vilnius (There are some locations in downtown Vilnius, Look it up, you'll love it) 2. Climb to Gediminas Castle (yes you can get on top of it and you can get inside it and climb even higher with a small cost) 3. Visit the inside of Grand Duke's museum (paid, but cheap entrance) Afterwards I suggest you to explore the edges of the city

Yes!!! Old town Vilnius is my favourite and I’m so happy you enjoyed it. So much more to explore. As someone of Lithuanian ancestry my visit there in 2018 was magical and I fell I love. We have cold winters, but most of the time really hot summers! Im glad you enjoyed Lithuania:) if you come back in summer, you can visit Palanga, Klaipėda and Nida

As a person that was born and raised in Lithuania and in the capital *cough* which is vilnius I'm very interested to see what other people think about my country, in the town you were was 'Senamiestis' it's a very old city. ^^ And the castle tower is 'Gedimino pilis' ^^ I hope you enjoyed Lithuania and it's wonders!

what let you to assume that Lithuania is eastern Europe in the first pace?) Lithuania as the rest of Baltic countries are definitely Northern Europe by all means. Ive spend a lot (and I mean it) of time around here

Eastern European historically/culturally, Northern European geographically. Both are correct.

@@huginug Culturally Lithuania has absolutely nothing in common with eastern Europe simply cause Eastern Europe is Slavic and Lithuanian / Baltic culture is totally different entity. And "historically"... such definition as "eastern Europe" before WW2 never existed. Baltic states never ever belonged to some shabby Eastern Europe. That is my humble opinion.

@@jonstainerr5340 Lithuania was part of the eastern bloc under USSR, which is where the term comes from. And it is the Soviet/communist culture that was enforced in that time that makes the Baltic states similar to other countries of that bloc during that period of history. Older generations grew up with that culture around them and carried the traits of it. Soviet/Slavic culture did influence Lithuanian culture. Even before WW2, Lithuania had a lot of history with Slavic culture, such as a union with Poland or being under the rule of imperial Russia and nearby cultures always have some similarities, no culture is pure. That influence can be seen in Lithuanian language, customs and cuisine, which are all part of the 'culture' you are referring to. So while the term Eastern European may not be relevant today, it isn't wrong. There is literally nothing to be triggered about.

@@huginug thanks indeed. Although culture has more profound structures than occasional contact trough near history with some distant nations. Baltic (s) culture is unique and wasn't anyhow influenced by slavs. Its entirely northern culture and nations.

@@jonstainerr5340 Plenty of Lithuanians will refer to themselves as either Eastern Europeans or Balts. Some will claim we are the geographical center of Europe. And some, like you, will say that we are Northern Europeans. There will always be a debate about it. But at least from my own perspective as a Lithuanian, I feel closer to Slavic than Nordic countries and their cultures. I will never consider myself a Northern European and that term is meaningless to me because I don't identify with it at all. I only view it as a move to distance ourselves from the past and the bad rep that the term other comes with. So I don't see a point to argue about it. Different people in the same culture will have a different understanding of what that culture is. You may be right from a purely theoretical standpoint, but it has little importance in reality. But you asked where did the idea come from. I explained it. You don't need to accept it, but it is a fact that culture changes and that we share cultural similarities with countries around us because of history. It's not just occassiona contact. Those similarities may not affect the core level (that unique Baltic culture), but you can't just ignore them. I hope you understand what I mean by that. Anyway, i understand what you want to say but I'm telling you that really barely anyone cares about the geographical classification of Lithuania and everyone is just happy that anyone even knows the name of this country.

Beautiful, thanks for posting! According to the legend, this city was born out of Gediminas’ dream, and centuries later it still feels like a dream :) P.S. Mid September was unusually cold, usually it’s not like that :) October was much warmer. Summers are the best! Warm, soft winds, 17 hour daylight (at peak), unforgettable sunrises and sunsets, and everyone’s outside enjoying life to the fullest :)

It's only cold when it's windy, Capital city is pretty dry and quite far from sea, so it's warmer than average. We comfortably sit at 0C for most of the winter (sometimes above, sometimes below). Maybe some folks might be interested if thinking to come during Christmas time - whole country has a competition to decorate their cities so it's very beautiful. P.S. winter shoes are a must - DO NOT WANDER HERE WITH SNEAKERS IN WINTER even when temperature is positive (speaking from personal experience)!!!

It not so cold as you think for example now is a little warmer then in the end of september end. In winter it drops to -20c a few days but mostly it's like -5c or warmer.

4:00 fun fact about Gediminas Castle, there used to be 100+ year old oaks on the hill supporting this castle, and someone decided it'd be a good idea to chop all those off. Now the castle is at risk of going to ruins, All of us Lithuanians are very angry and frustrated with this because not only did it ruin our history but also now it is taking money away from our country to keep the castle standing (I'm Lithuanian, when this happened it was all over the news and the outrage was huge)
