Travis Kelce addresses Harrison Butker's controversial commencement speech on his 'New Heights' podcast. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end says he doesn't agree with 'just about any' of Harrison's comments at Benedictine College earlier this month. In his 20-minute speech, the NFL kicker called 'being a homemaker' the 'highest calling for a woman,' criticized President Biden and blasted the concept of Pride Month. Harrison also referenced a lyric from Travis' girlfriend,' Taylor Swift, by quoting her 2022 track, 'Bejeweled.'

@AndySamK
@AndySamK 13 күн бұрын
@@SwagMaster-fq8qg they can share their opinion, but society should be smart enough to only listen to experts. The opinion of a NFL-Player when it comes to society, politics and so on is just simply not important. His opinion on sports, escpially American Football, that would be interesting. The reaction should be: "ok, thats his opinion, i personally think its shit/i like it (whatever your own opinion).... anyways. lets talk about actually important stuff" Hyping up every single opinion of celebrities and wanna-be-celebrities is not healthy. And right now (with the Isreal-Palestine-Story) you can even see, that Fans get mad when Celebrities dont voice an opinion on that. WHY? What does it matter what Celebrity X says about Isreal? Like that celebrity is not gonna change the conflict/war and probably doesnt even know what they talk about. Is it not smarter to KNOW when you dont KNOW something and should therefore not talk on a subject?
@SwagMaster-fq8qg
@SwagMaster-fq8qg 11 күн бұрын
@@AndySamK I agree that expertise is important. But celebrities have a soap box. They have reach. They can make people aware of an issue or conflict who otherwise would not be aware. They are also persuasive because people admire them. When they share opinions that resonate with people, those people are more likely to take positive action or at least share their opinion as well, which then encourages other like-minded people to share their opinions and take action, which ultimately brings about change. No major changes in history, no justice, was ever achieved by people staying quiet. Consulting expert opinions is not a perfect solution either, because many experts share completely different opinions (Professors/scholars of middle east politics who share very different opinions on Israel/Palestine, for example.)
@AndySamK
@AndySamK 11 күн бұрын
@@SwagMaster-fq8qg if the conflict is even too complex for experts, that should be an easy sign that celebrities shouldnt be forced to take a position. They can obviously talk about the topics meaning making people form their own opinions about it or at least deal with that topic in the first place. But forcing a celebrity to take a stand is dumb AND/OR if they took a stand ("I Support group A") therefore concluded for yourself "Celebrity X supports group A, that means, i must support Group A as well" - pretty dumb.

Back in the 20s and 30s who do you think worked the textile factories? Who do you think worked as clerks and nurses? Who were the teachers? Who were the secretaries? Switchboard operators? For most Americans throughout history there’s never been a stay-at-home mom. Just a mom who was expected to do majority of domestic labor and provide some money for the family as well. People think about America like it was 50s/60s style white middle-class suburbia for everyone. For most families two people had to work then, and two people definitely have to work now.

@@eljobo3258 A grand total of two women in the audience have spoken up about it. They're impossible to see in the standing ovation all the other women in the room gave him. For every woman who disliked the speech, there are at least 20 who did. It is not a criticism of a speech to say it only landed with 99% of the audience. Also, you're right to be sarcastic when you say "shocker," because it is absolutely unsurprising that the Benedictine Sisters were critical of the speech (you are overstating their criticism though). They are notorious for being radical feminists who are so routinely critical of Church teachings on gender that they have been subject to Orders of Silence, which means they have bordered on heresy for their positions. It is unsurprising they were critical, but also irrelevant and uninteresting. I don't think he's referring to the idea that it's everyone's calling at some point to have children and stay home and raise them. I just think that he feels a lot of women have the maternal instincts to have children eventually at some point in their lives and he's saying it's OK to give into your natural instincts and nature to nurture a family and prioritize that at that point if you choose. Not everyone will agree because it's not everyone's calling but some fight it because society has programmed a lot of women and men as well to think that that's not right and overall it's disrespected to be a housewife. Many women are pushed into mainstream ideas and feel a career is the only way but a lot of women find themselves unhappy having to incorporate themselves into a modern/mainstream society. He speaks of values and a Christian faith and upholding discipline amidst a divided and chaotic world. What I find upsetting is that there aren't enough people who respect someone's decision and beliefs regarding family and living a simpler life, that people have forsaken morals to do whatever they please, and that a title as a housewife isn't seen as honorable but instead it's denigrated and seen as something weak. I also don't see it as terrible that he spoke this speech at a college graduation award ceremony. From my perspective he seems to be recognizing that most of the graduates are younger and still have a lot of growing to do as well as many choices to make so therefore he has his own perspective and advice to share 😊

His wording is questionable and judgmental but the point can't be ignored that things are different now than before the freedoms and protections of the 60's and women were taken out of the home and put into the workforce. Women were forced to prove they were the equal of men for some reason and those new double-income families artificially drove up the price of homes and with turning back. The home was no longer a place of the stability a mother historically provided. A lot of necessary truths are being suppressed for the purposes of political correctness and it prevents us from moving forward constructively. Too many agendas and insecurities. It is impossible to argue that things are worse now as a country and those 1960's and subsequent protections and freedoms do not play a small part. I was born in 1958. The sexual revolution was gross as it was happening and irreversibly damaging. What bad prioritizing. I was repeatedly sexualized (but not touched) by adult authority figures as a teen athlete during that sick period (coaches and team mates in junior high, high school and college). I like sex but only focus on it while I do it then focus on the important things in life that are nourishing to my heart, brain and soul and productive in my environment. The creation of a gay community is divisive and built on sexuality, which is incredibly flawed but here we are. The only reason to attach to that community is to detach from the shackles of our society's sensible patriarchal structure, masculinity, reason and accountability. Watch the movie "Who killed Robert Wone?" I'm not interested in the perspective of someone whose sexual preference (or race or any affiliation that) dictates their thinking. I liked the way things were in early 60's, they made sense. If you did things well and treated people well, you generally lived a good life. It's all way more unstable and nebulous and subject to change at a moment's notice now depending on some group's self-serving agenda.

Her kids would probably be tagging along with her on the tours, cheering on their momma! And I’d still be a Swiftie. But it’s up to her if she wants to get married and have kids. And it’s up to her on what she does before and after no longer making music. It’s not up to a man like Harrison Butker to say what women do and do not want in life. It is up to the women say so themselves who graduated to say what they do and do not want in life. But that’s not up to the man speaking. I’m not gonna settle for a man who tells me what I do or don’t want in life. Only I get to speak for myself as a woman on what I do and do not want in life. Not a man, especially not a man with mommy issues like Harrison has.

@@plantbased5673 and because of what I said on my first comment to you. Don’t even be saying that it wasn’t what Harrison said. Harrison saying that some of the women that graduated go onto lead successful careers. And then go on to say that the majority of the women who graduated are more excited about being mothers and homemakers. Is literally a man saying what women do and do not want in life. He’s saying that women want to be mothers and homemakers more than they want a career. Well, what if women want both huh? What if they want to be mothers and help with the homemaking while having their own careers in the process? Women can do both just as men. We don’t call it partnership for no reason. If both parents are working, both parents should be able to do things around the house together and for each other and helping to keep the kids safe.

Wow. I listened to the commencement speech. I didn't hear anything that I felt warranted pointing out. It's not like he spoke at Notre Dame. I'd never heard of Benedictine College. I'm also not a Catholic thus I'm sure he and my tenets and practices of faith aren't 100% aligned but I'd more issue with what his teammates said than anything he expressed. And lastly, had he said any of this in a Chiefs uniform, maybe I could see THAT causing a national stir but this was in a private setting, invited to speak. I'd like identified those speech police agents that seemingly go to every nic and corner to "expose" people that apparently don't think as they do. They are the real haters in the world.

Same way with raising kids you need a feminine energy and masculine energy but we are living in a confusing world. Marriages are going down the drain and relationships are barely working because we are choosing to go against how we were made.

What’s wrong with his speech? Maybe actually listen. Here is what he said.. “I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you. How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother. I'm on the stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation. I'm beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker. She is a primary educator to our children. She is the one who ensures I never let football or my business become a distraction from that of a husband and father. She is the person that knows me best at my core, and it is through our marriage that, Lord willing, we will both attain salvation.”

The highest costs for dual income families come from childcare. If there is a parent remaining at home, then costs can be cut. Also, the inflation boom happened when women entered the workforce in mass, and more money had to be created to pay the new workers, driving down the value of the dollar.
