People getting upset over a cheap but filly reliable $200 gun is funny. I have at least 7500 rounds through mine and ots still great. Paid $180 for it. You get the dame reliability out of the 88 as you do the 500 and 590a1 if youre not tossing it off roof tops. Way more reliable than my 28 year old rem870 for a third the price. A mossberg may mot be a Benelli but it will last as long if not longer. Crazy reliablility for a cheap usa made gun

I just bought one and it came with the studs for the swivels already mounted. I ordered a set before I got it because I had one previously and had to add them myself. This is one of my favorite shotguns

I have the black one. My first shotgun. Mossburg 500 barrels fit the Maverick 88.

Break in is easy, use brake parts cleaner to get all of the packing oil out, then spray rem oil in it, and rack it a hundred times, respray with brake cleaner, rack it when it’s dry a dozen times, and then wipe it out, spray with oil again, rack it, and wipe it down lightly It will rack and cycle 100x smoother. The bolt and other internals will show some shine, but that’s where the rub points have been worked smooth. It’s then good to go.

I have the same exact 88.. and I luv it.. great all around shotgun.. and with a nice shotgun case a couple boxes of shells a 2pk of velcro shell holders I was all in for $400... can't beat it...

I was trying to decide between a new 88 for $200.00 at Academy, & a used (like new) Remington 870 Hardwood Home Defense for $240.00 at a pawn shop. All my research indicated the 88 was a great gun despite rattling a lot, if you didn't plan to shoot it into pieces. I went with the more 'solid' 870 (which I might regret should parts become hard to find).

Hands down the best value and super reliable shotgun ever. And American made and owned. May everyone that buys a Turkish shotgun experience catastrophic failure and dysentery. 🇺🇸 🦅

Its a great shotgun. I love Mossbergs. I have that same one you got there. Got it a few days ago. I also got a Mossberg 500. They are awesome. Well built.

Great cheap shotgun. I got the shorter one and it’s much like yours they are a perfect as 500 or 590 but for the money beats any turkey made pump shotgun

Just got one of these yesterday but the 535 was one of the best shotguns ever just do to the fact that it's chambered up to 3 1/2

Its an outstanding entry level tool. It can be extremely modified as time goes on. If you have the money go ahead and get the 500, if not you wobe disappointed with the 88. I have one of each and wouldn't trade them.

Nice to see an unboxing so people know how the item should arrive. Those several blemishes right out of the box does not bode well though. Are you sure it was "as-new" or did the shop sell you a display model? If it's a "display model" then it is going to show wear from hundreds of customers finger-banging it all over, bumps and scratches from minor handling wear, dragging it out of the display rack and dragging it across the counter top, etc.; anything that a clerk and customers will inadvertently do to it. Maybe it's Mossberg's fault and it happened on the assembly line?

Just bought a used one with a 6 shell sleeve and sturdy sling at a pawnshop for 170 no tax out the door talk them down from 200 almost brand new in this same color could not be happier can only find em for 230 and higher with taxes or just sticker price

I put a rifled barrel on 88. For my son first Deer 🦌 rifle. My son put a new but stock on it.

Didn't Matt say there are aftermarket trigger guards that aren't plastic? I thought I recall that(and the safety) being the only real difference between the Maverick and the Mossbergs.

I got the maverick 88 at Walmart a year ago for 200. They didn't have the security model which sucks. It's my turkey gun, cut for chokes

The 500 n 590 are compatible with the 88

I bought an adaptive tactical furniture kit witch made this gun awesome. The maverick pump grip is proprietary so when adding after martket furniture you have to get a mettal action slide tube to affix the furniture. Thet tend to be out of stock a lot but I paid $47 for it.

Hey Travis: i concur with your findings and conclusion of the Maverick 88 Security model: in 2019 I bought the new Maverick 88 Security with the 18.5" barrel 5+1 capacity with the FDE furniture. I picked mine up for $188.00 new back then and it's a great 12 gage shotgun. At the time I didn't know about the 20" 7+1 version and my LGS didn't carry that model...otherwise I would have opted for that one. Here's a story: as soon as I brought it home I had it up against my wall near the safe. I was handling my unloaded revolver that fell out of my hand, bounced off the carpeted floor, rolled over towards the new shotgun, and hit the stock. I barely had my shotgun 1 hour and it put a gash/nick in the stock. I covered it with a shell holder that goes over the stock, but I was so pissed. I called Mossberg and at that time they didn't have any extra stocks in FDE to sell me (they only made enough for the production run). I never went back to the website to look again, so maybe now it's changed and they stock them for individual sale. I will follow up on that. Anyhow, great video.

I own two of the same security model , great shotgun , the only knock is the horrible safety, its absolutely terrible, plastic cheap and not very positive, I hate it . I'd rather spend more money for the 590 or 500 just because of that safety.
