Got a 94 2.8 diesel 4 runner. 406km It get's driven around New Zealand roads and tracks everyday. Still runs like clockwork. Wouldnt change it for anything. Best motor vehicle ever made.

Daily drive an 89. They are great. Mine has 264k miles on it. Just about to put a new motor in it. If you are really worried about theft get a steering hub quick release and an aftermarket wheel.

I have a 93 Toyota pickup 4WD 22RE engine that I only use to haul things and have owned it for 10 years, drive it just now and then. I recently had to replace the alternator, other than that I replaced the fuel pump, I thought it was bad but turned out mice chewed the wires, replaced it anyway since I already went through the process of dropping the tank. This truck has 190k miles on it and runs like a beast, as soon as I turn the key it fires right up. I love this little truck

2000 4runner here. Daily driven and not gently. Love her and would absolutely get another one. Reliable as the morning sun has never once left me stranded for any reason solid and gets better mpg than the epa expectations.

I recently bought a one owner 1990 with 158,000 22re. Been steadily replacing parts. Drug it out of a backyard where it had been sitting dead for a couple years. Now that it’s running, I took it on a 450+ mile trip last weekend and it did fine. It’s definitely not gonna break any land speed records but it’s “fun” to drive. If your spine can handle it.😂

92 Pickup. 245,000 miles. Had it now for 20 years. Bulletproof. Only the shocks have been replaced in the suspension and steering. Tracks straight and rides well. All the bushings are in decent shape. Converted to R134. Not the best in Summer Florida but it gets the job done.

Love it man! I have a similarly bare bones '09 regular cab, 5 speed, 4wd 2.7 Taco. Have had it now for 7 years now and as I approach 170k miles, it has been nothing but a joy to drive. Aside from a wheel bearing, it's been nothing but routine maintenance that I do in my garage. Love the 90's graphics.. Great honest review, keep truckin!

Best cars that I ever had, I have 3 ‘87 4Runner, and one 1992 4x4 extra cab. Love each one of them. Been all over California, Baja California Mx. Mexico’s main land, Utah etc. never have and issue.

I have an 02 Tacoma 2WD, single cab base model with the 5spd. I bought it for $4200 2 years ago. Like yours mine has been nothing short of a pleasure to own and drive. It's also funny because my truck has no intermittent wipers as well. But it's something I just got used to.

I have a 1988 SR5 4x4 Extra Cab 3.0 Liter 6 with 336, 000 miles on it, and it still runs great. No major issues ever with the engine, or transmission. I have owned it for so long I can't remember when I bought it ! I think I was born owning it. Best investment I ever made. You can not beat those old Toyotas !

Upgrade suspension all around for better ride. Bushings, sway bar struts , shocks , leaf springs. It will feel new!!

Miss my 85 tin can with a sewing machine under the hood. Drove mine at 65 below zero in Fairbanks --the little 4-banger took forever to warm up until the heat finally crawled out of the vents. Even so wish I still had it.

It's all relative - try living with a modern Ram 2500 HD 4 door - that's long! I'm getting a 92 extra cab 4x4 sr5, it's so tiny! Like I said, it's all relative, huge compared to my Macan Turbo. I appreciate your video and thank you for posting it. All the best.

I still have the same Toyota I bought in ‘02, “it’s a unicorn..” 4x4 Extcab, I’ve fixed all the cons, SAS, gears, a/c. An I love it.. I get just about the same amount of compliments as my vintage showchevy, You have your new car, mines paid for !!! Lol..😂

I bought an 87 pup longbed a decade ago with 36k on it. It is my ready reserve if my commuter goes down. Far more spartan than the mid 90s no power steering, cable counter lever clutch and carburetor. Geared for 55mph national speed limit. I put out a wtb for an alternator, starter, distributer on a forum and paid $100 shipped. Replaced my starter and repaired the contacts on the original. The thing I get the biggest kick out of is loading 8 foot product at the hardware store while the suburbanite struggles with a five foot bed on a fifty thousand dollar truck. Story time, I went a hundred miles out for a truck cap and a caliper locked up. I manually released the caliper and screwed a bolt in the brake line to block it off and drove one hundred miles home.

I have a 94 extended cab sr5 v6 4x4 auto with all the bells and whistles absolutely love it. Also up in Oregon so no rust.

I have a 92 4x4 Toyota pickup truck its my best friend, we like going off-roading and going over curbs like nothing , doing donuts, and down shifting when needed (I maintain it to be at its best fyi)

Nothing but plusses in my book! I bought an 84 Nissan Pickup 2WD, short bed and cab in 1990 to go to aviation mainenance school. I daily drove it until June 2020. With an exhaust header and a Weber carb conversion I went from 22-24 mpg to over 30 mpg! It had no A/C but I bought a parts truck that did and swapped it over. I still use it every few days, it' just too fun to not drive it.

Toyota offered xtra cabs for the 84-88 models sir. I have owned 2. Great video btw

Looking at a 1994 with 422k miles on it this weekend. Dude is selling it for $3000 and it looks decent, kind of more interested in it simply because of how many miles it has on it lol. Hoping it drives nice and we can make a deal, been looking for a ‘23 Tacoma for a few months but there’s a crazy shortage and whatever is in stock is just too expensive. Not many SR5’s available for the average joe either.

I did the steering conversation now my 91 pickup has tilt and the wiper switch from a 4runner as well as bucket seats

I’ve been driving a 92’ 2wd for over 20 yrs. No PS no A/C, Vinyl seats. I have hauled bricks, dirt, bark, garbage , yard waste truck squatting all the way. Only problem I’ve had is with the cooling system. (Aftermarket parts)👎 and the timing chain replaced. Everything else just oil changes. Still is my old friend

I own a 92 RWD with the 22RE. Basically, it's my forever truck. I'd like to drive it for another 25 years if I can find the parts to keep it running. It hits the perfect balance between utility, simplicity, and comfort for me.

My 1985 Toyota 4runner SR5 has the manual transmission and the 22re.

My T 100 is a 4 Cylinder no power steering...feel like im at the gym when i get out of truck...im a big guy n safety belt doesn't fix...my mechanic sez my truck is 1995/96 model...keep getting wrong parts on 1st trip to Auto Zone or ebay parts...but i love it saves miles on my new Pathfinder ...my sons use it when they need a truck...A/C still works n u need that in Az. I Gave it a name "Tiny White"...glad I'm not the only guy with a T 100😁

i have a 94 yota pick , i paid $1000 for , they thought the motor needed major work turns out it was the plastic timing chain guards that broke and was clicking around, my friend the mechanic and I replaced the guards with new metal guards for $50 plus the cost of the parts, I blew the head gasket coming from down in the valley tubing down the river but coming back up a steep mountain with some switch back curves the coolant hose came lose out of the reservoir so it wasn't circulating so after about an hour it started to really get hot , I made it to the AutoZone and bought a new hose since mine was down in the bottom of the reservoir I added coolant once it cooled down and drove home no issues, well,,, about a week later it started the overheating intermittently so I knew it was either a wrapped head or a head gasket since everything else was working fine and I had some white smoke coming from the exhaust in the heat of summer,,, did the compression test and gas leak test and yes it was the head gasket ,, I chose to just purchase a refurbed machined head instead of sending mine out , I got a deal since I gave the folks at the m,machine shop my old head ,,, replaced the gasket and the head ,,,, not a single issue out of the truck since,,, and had it not been for my mistake of loosening the hose under the res cap when checking the fluids before going on my adventure that day then I wouldn't have a story to tell ,,,needless to say it was my fault and this truck is my favorite vehicle to drive ,, if I was in a jam and had to pick a vehicle to no leave me stranded and to be guaranteed to start every single time I turn the key (even when its over heating) it would be my 1994 Toyota pickup 22re

Toyotas are bulletproof, in my opinion, this one no exception. Not a comparison, but my truck is a 20 year old Ranger that is chugging strong. I dote over maintenance. The body's in great shape. It's true, *good* used vehicles are at a premium now and I get notes left on my ranger 3-4 times a year asking if I'll sell.... I'm sure you get the same on your toyota, and I hope youve resisted the urge to let her go. If you did, you'd get remorse and then go to find a replacement...very rare success.

That truck will run forever! Pops has a 2004 tundra with 350k on it and it still sounds smooth! Looks rough though because its a work truck and sits in the sun all day!! Go Toyota!

I got rid of a low mile 98 Avalon for a 94 108K 2wd Xtracab 22re 5 spd. The truck goes down the road better than the Avalon and is the most fun to drive rig I've ever owned. Made in Japan. I've made a lot of improvements and it just gets better and better.

My 91 pickup ext. Cab has intermittent wipers, an adjustable steering column, and the auto clutch start button. No AC though.

if someone removed the belt from the AC compressor usually it means that its kaput, the clutch may not be working an its seized so they took the belt off as a simple work around. if thats the case it may be worth more to try and get the compressor from an R134a model and change the rest of the system to 134

I had one of these for 7 years, petrol, oil and filters, one set of tyres. The only repair was a recon radiator for Australian $165. Daughter drove it into a tree, both of us walked away, and still drove the 300 km home. Now I have two Toyota utes/pick ups.

A guy a actually asked me what year it was and was surprised to know these 4runners are from the late 90s seems to think a lot of people assume they’re older just by looks which in my opinion I do enjoy it

Before I had my truck I had a isuzu trooper and I was follow from i-5 near Albany by a state trooper into Jefferson, after my dad and I came out from the mini market the trooper came over and started questioning us and said another trooper radioed to him that I had passed him going over 85 miles an hour. This Isuzu had 33's a roof rack, big bulky brush guard, and a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder, the fastest I ever got it and this is after I fixed things including upgrading the exhaust was 74 miles an hour down hill. You should delete the emissions on this truck, it would really increase your engines performance. I've completely rebuilt this engine and they're very simple to do, even the timing chain is easy to do. Just don't be mad about the situation and everything goes together smooth.

I think regarding the rough ride you should get your suspension checked out, seems like it needs some work, shocks probably are all worn out..

I still drive my 1983 toy four by four I bought new in July 1983 for $8295.00. this has been a great truck. Had to replace the engine at 233,000 because a oil change place put the wrong oil in it. I put a used engine in it that had 20,000 on it. Betsy has been a great truck!!

I make $200k a year and I’m still driving my 2007 FJ cruiser with 230k miles. I travel the nation for work with it and have a mounted RTT. All my coworkers drive gawdy pick ups and they all say “bro get something new, you can afford it, get out of the old POS” 😂 I’m happy they have new trucks but my Yota is still purring not a payment in the world! If I do get something else it probably be a right hand drive land cruiser from the 90s

Once a year I go through the idle surge issue and it goes away by itself.

The timing guides are the problem cus plastic you can get metal guides and that will solve your problem

Also, you do not have to convert your r12 system to run r134a.... Just buy the fittings for $15... I have put r134a in over a dozen different r12 systems and it works fine.

I live in Australia and l myself own a toyota hilux cab chassis 2 wheel drive 1997 model l paid $1500aus for the ute l have owned it for over 2 years l use it regularly l am also retired in N.S.W we have yearly inspections for registration so the next couple of months l will be working on the ute to get it ready for its inspection l noticed your ute has the original radiator l changed mine although mine is newer than yours mine has about 250000 miles on it l will not go into detail what work l have done on it but the air conditioning does work and the speedo works so does the odometer and l noticed the paint is not the best but mine is resonable its white l did use it as a courier vehicle until l retired now its a rolling hobby ute

Always great information,been watching a lot of your puch tutorial videos I got a few question if you could help, my 1977 puch maxi e50 won’t idle it’s very hard to start But once I get it started it runs great it’ll ride for a long time, until I stop at a stop sign or something if I’m there for like 15 seconds it’ll cut off. I got a new spark plug so I don’t know what’s wrong with it and why it’s so hard to start it takes me a very long time. It might need a carb tune. It had a buturbo exhaust.

I drive my 2002 Tacoma everyday. 205K and going strong,,,,,,so what if it rides hard. Keep on driving it!

My 93 is r134 so that shouln't be an issue, I had the same missing belt but i also had a seized compresser so if you try to fix it watch out for that.

You could add a kill switch to make it less likely to be stolen. One of the cheapest ways to slow down thieves.

I can't find an answer to this online. I understand the bench seat only moves forward and back. But in the manual transmission versions, how "accommodating" is it for various heights? For example, if a 6 foot tall person gets out and a 5 foot tall person gets in, will the seat move forward/back enough for both people to actuate the clutch? I need a small truck, always wanted one of these (and also want to finally get my fiance to learn stick shift lol).

I daily drive my 1997 Toyoya Hilux and l have owned it for about 4 years firstly its a rear wheel drive single cab with an aluminum tray manual with working air conditioning non working cruuse control these were optional extras and has done 432000 kilometers l live in Australia and it is tge Australian model made in Japan as for the 22R engine it is fine the cam chain hasn't stretched at all l have replaced the whole exhaust system four new tyres major service front disc pads new radiator new valve cover gasket new fuel lines from the tank to the filter the carburetor is original has not been removed it works very well replaced the plug leads rotor button and distributor cap and l paid aud $1500 for it registered and running and my test drive was from Newcastle N,S.W to my home in the outer southwestern suburb of Sydney no problem a two and half hour drive also as a ute it has had an easy life just recently l changed all three universal joints only one was bad but to future proof it l changed all three and in Australia mine is worth aud $5000 to $6000 and the configuration it is is the most sort after buyers want them for a work vehicle with the drop side aluminum tray l am retired now was a courier and you pointed out that the harsh ride l agree with you on that especially mine with its aluminum tray my Toyota wife doesn't like riding in it we have another vehicle a four cylinder hatch back my wife prefers riding it that by the way l saw a 1997 Toyota Hilux ute sell for aud $ 10000 less kilometers than mine and resprayed red but not the engine bay and seen one sell for aud $500 it had done 980000 kilometers they are extremely reliable and us Australians reconise that

I’m going back to my 92 Yota from a Chevy High Country. I haven’t driven the Yota except for garbage runs for years. Fuel pump seems to be out but Ill fix it since the snow is gone. My Yota and Chevy both have 4” lift and 33x12.5 tires. Yota is slow, but I’ve decided I really don’t need to drive a truck everyday. I’m selling the Chevy to buy a Tesla.

Tailgate for a 2020 Tacoma? Anywhere from 350usd up to a flippin grand. Tailgate for my 94? 150usd. Need I say more? I could do this all day. She's as reliable as a concrete block, (about as fast and comfortable as one too) easy to service and maintain, parts grow on trees, cheap to insure. When you're looking for them, you'll be shocked how many ancient Toyotas are still on the road, getting the job done. I see 20+yr old Tacomas, Precomas, 4runners, and more than a few old T100s chugging around my town all the time. Quite a shocking number from the 80s. In fact I'm shopping for a 4Runner for my daughter right now. Here's a 95 for only 7k. "Runs and drives, sometimes overheats". I've got a six pack sez it's just a thermostat, but a pump is like 100 bucks, radiator 200 and you could probably do all the work yourself with a 4way screwdriver and cheap socket wrench. I could probably replace the frikkin motor for less than 2k. If I had the money for a new Tacoma... I'd buy three old ones. Not kidding.
