You guys have been asking me to do a comparison of the Traxxas Maxx and the ARRMA Kraton 4S and I've been trying really hard. I've shot this video 2 times now trying to get it for you, but the sun went down too fast the first night and the second time the GoPro froze up mid-comparison (which is a bummer because it had lots of backflips and front flips). By the time I got back out after fixing the Maxx, it was dark. I pressed on because I know that it's going to get harder and harder to get footage with the time change. I apologize that the end is rushed and dark. More comparisons will be coming, don't you worry.
Both RCs were running 4s 5000mah 50c Venom Lipo batteries.

Had about the same experience with the Maxx. The shocks aren't set up very well stock. I upgraded to 80w shock oil and it helps a lot. I have also found its just as fast as a Kraton 4s on 3s and it handles sooo much better. The 4s makes it to jumpy and is honestly overkill. As for the Kraton I hate the stock radio. So much delay. Great test. Very accurate.

Why do people find the need to compare apples to oranges? These trucks are completely different, one is a Truggy and one is a Monster Truck. First off, you don't put the Maxx in the air with TSM on, rookie move. Notice the TSM causing the MAXX to wobble in the air. TSM doesn't understand pitch, yaw or roll. TSM is meant for high speed, keeping the vehicle as straight as possible when tire(s) loose traction on its X axis only. The only thing I would compare is how horrible the stock Tx is on the Kraton 4s, range and delay. Battery life at least 25% less runtime on the Kraton 4s with the same capacity 4S battery. Durability, Maxx hands down. Speed, Maxx hands down. I would assume the Traxxas Max 4s is more expensive because of the better Tx, engineering, electronics and durability. (Pro Tip - If you get the Bluetooth module for the TQi Tx, you can tweak the steering/throttle sensitivities and power percentages) to match the Kraton and oh look, doesn't roll over at speed the same as before, who knew!) Yes the TRaxxas Maxx 4s is more expensive although. Same goes, if you want an iPhone, you don't settle for a Android.

Agree with everything except the iPhone bit at the end.... android is like the maxx. More capable and customizable to suit your needs and has hundreds of options for devices. IPhone is iphone. Restrictions and roadblocks.

I just scored a Maxx for 600 never been driven has wide kit new tires aluminum hexes bt module metal cvd axlesTraxxas tool kit 2 chargers 3 lipos an lipo bag an few other upgrades. Did I say never been driven? It's a guy I work with got into the hobby an sold them all. I think I scored big time.

They totally look different traxxas looks like a heavy tank but a monster truck style and the arrma looks more like a stadium truggy type hard to compare when they are so much different. Nice video Tony.

Seems Traxxas kind of new the maxx would flip a lot by putting in the self righting feature. The maxx just seems like its a little off all of the time. The Aarma looks very stable and with the RPM arms seems like it is almost as bulletproof as the maxx. I have been following along with these comparisons as i am in the market for basher, and it is a really tough choice hehe. Great video 👍👍👍👍👍

to me it seems like the difference is mainly the truggy vs the monster truck form factor. I think the instability of a taller truck can be fun and desirable.

For the price of the Maxx you can get a V4 Kraton 6s which is what I just did. If the Maxx had a longer wheel base like the big rock 3s I would have to consider getting one.

@CCxRC Have you thought of maybe doing a "how-to" video on kraton 4s? Maybe like how to remove the differentials. There are literally none anywhere. I just recently bought a kraton 4s and was surprised at the lack of how-to info there is for the 4s model. I think it would be extremely helpful and popular. Anyway love the channel and the content keep it up.

Not indestructible I got a rock stuck in the inside of my maxx wheel before the first battery was finished and it snapped the universal joint on the cv shaft so something to watch when doing doughnuts in larger rocks

Great video for me what I see is the maxx want to power around the turns with the right turning radius and the Kraton seems to want to brake and slide because steering not as good I’d like to see a width comparison and a body height comparison would be awesome !and your right totally different driving styles for these two rc great job🔥🔥👍👍💪💪

Great bashing Tony! Love the comparison. The Maxx looks like a solid rig but seems to need some tuning and maybe some widening to perform better. It's a tank. The Kraton seems like a solid performer in handling and in the air but it is a monster truggy. As for the GoPro Hero 7 Black, been there too. Part of the reason I film with so many cameras😂 My DJI Action is starting to turn into my go to action cam. Check it out. Maybe on your short XMas list.

Nice head to head bash Tony 👍🏻👍🏻. I'd be willing to bet you'd like the Kraton even more with a different radio system. That gives me an idea.... You could try swapping radio systems on these two. That would give the TSM advantage to the Kraton and also allow you to possibly tighten up the turning radius using the end point adjustment. It would also expose the STX2 system's issues outside of the ARRMA electronics, and also showcase how the Maxx would fare using a non-TRX system. Just a thought! I believe these Horizon-branded ARRMAs are handcuffed by a sub-par radio system in terms of crispness and reaction. Just my $.02

Kraton has a lower center of gravity that's it. Maxx is a much better looking truck. Kraton looks like someone stepped on it

I will take the arrma all day. I have this same kraton it's never broken except i cracked the body from a hundred backflips off of jumps. It's cheap it's fast it's easy to work on. Traxxas is totally taking advantage of their fan boys with the maxx so over priced. Everyone on KZfaq doing videos on these maxx's it's broken the drive shafts or the hubs. Even this video you said it broke from a jump. Im not a fanboy of any brand i have basically all of them i love my summit and emaxx and xmaxx 2 but i just can't get on board with this 550 dollar tenth scale all plastic truck i could get a mt410 for less

The price is definitely the hardest pill to swallow for the Maxx. I didn’t actually break it. It just popped a pin out that is easy to unscrew and put back in the C-Hub. I did break my Kraton on my first run a couple weeks back and then a front arm after that (that was my fault). Put RPM arms on and it’s insanely tough.

@@CCxRC sweet man. I just like any truck built well and not taking advantage of people. And i want a truck that doesn't fall apart every time i drive it like your pin that falls out Everytime. But at the same time it's a good idea to wait for the second variation of a truck to come out. Remember the kraton 6s v1 it was a headache for me but now the v4 is amazing. My v1 xmaxx drive me nuts but my new version i love it. So i mean if the maxx was cheaper and they had these little issues resolved i would totally grab one. But the money hungry vibe Traxxas is giving off is totally a turn off to me. Great videos man i watch them all the time 👍

Damn man that friggin Maxx is a flip over truck I have to put monster tape all over the sides or else the body will be gone and torn up ! I drive mostly on road but I’ve tried lowering the shocks and widening it but no luck same shit .

Both need new arms. The RPM fir the ARRMA’s is like $25. The wide kit for the Maxx is $60 and I think it’s necessary. Both are good, but I gave both away to a charity after getting my Big Rock Crew Cab. I just prefer how it drives. It’s just as fast on only 3s.

Just asking, were the Kraton front wheels on backwards? The MAXX now has wider A-arms, it won't roll as easy.

Yes. I had just done a video showing how to change the lower arms to RPM. Then accidentally put them on backwards and went a ran. Flipped them right after the run. I have the wide arms....another $60 on an already expensive truck...but it still rolls too easy.

I washed my hands from the Kraton a long time ago. Give me the body, you can keep the rest of the car. As for the Maxx, I have to deal enough with the things I work with handling like dump trucks with a ton of steering, seriously I'm riding around in a LLV (if you know what that is, you know what I'm doing 😋) & it handles just like the Maxx. So why in the hell would I bring one home with me.

ok for me I use 5000 mah Lipo runs 15-30 minutes depending on how I drive Lipo temp doesn’t get hot

@@dirtbiketoofast2959 Finally I have bought it and I use a 5 Ah lipo 3s and.. another 3s lipo 2200mAh between the rear wing and the plastic wheel, in parallel of course , it helps to wheelies and helps lipo temps decrease, thanks!!!

Maxx is tricky to handle in the air as a touch too much brake and it wants to front flip. That said in your video it seems to land more 'solidly' than the Kraton 4S, which sounds very lightweight on landing, if that makes sense. Maxx proving quite tough, my first video over the jumps out tomorrow.

Could you swap the tires? The Arrma has a less aggressive tread that might keep the Maxx from rolling, and with the more aggressive Maxx tread the Arrma might pull wheelies better. From watching, the Arrma does appear to have a little better out of the box suspension tuning.

Maxx squirlyness is caused by the TSM when it corrects mid air. Try turning it off or down when jumping.

Would be interesting to see if you could get the same tires on both of these vehicles. Looked like the tires on the Maxx are a lot more grippy on those surfaces and the ones on the kraton slide more allowing you the slide those corners and not want to roll as much.

Traction on the Kraton tires are pretty poor. Upgrading those gets closer to the & 530 point, but dramatically changes the truck.

Me personally,? I have the Arrma big rock modified,,and I had the same roll over problem you have with your Maxx.Just widen it the best you can and it will perform almost as well as the Kraton.

is the punch control all the way up on the kraton? in the video it also sounds like the slipper is too loose but that might be the gear mesh. i have the senton 3s blx and it will wheelie on demand if the punch control is on 5 but it wont if its on the stock 3 setting and seems slower too. i agree the steering isnt good on the senton either, it just doesnt steer very sharp. i really like that maxx. heavier shock oil will fix the bounciness.

The slipper was too loose. I had tightened it, but not as much as I thought.

@1:14min i notice that the profile on the front tires are oposite of the rear tires. is that on purpose or did you mistakenly put LF on RF and vice verca? on the kraton that is

they were on backwards because I had just replaced the a-arm and was rushing to get out and make the video. Didn't realize that it went on backwards

I did. I was rushing a fix I did on video to get out and do the run. Saw it right after and changed it back.

Out of these two, it all depends. One truck has proprietary parts and electronics while the other uses spektrum electronics. The Kraton 4s is relatively cheaper in price which allows to upgrade parts like: wheel/tires, servo, extra batteries for the price of a stock Maxx w battery/charger.

In my opinion i like the kraton totally due to price its 600.00 stock then its 60 bucks for the widening kit then you have to drop a 100.00 for the steel axles for the widening kit now keep in mind these 2 upgrades are required straight out of the box so it stops rolling over all the time i feel like traxxax should do these upgrades at the factory but anyway by the time you spent all of that you might as well just buy the xmaxx

$130 difference buys a few upgrades that would make the kraton even better. I wonder if the slower radio is the reason why the maxx seems like it jumps on take off and the kraton doesn't

I’m looking at getting one , first time buyer.i like the Traxxas Max, is Arma Kraton a better starter for me, I know they are less expensive but is drive train plastic? or are they all upgradable. Thanks

I honestly like my Big Rock more than my Kraton. But they all have plastic out drives. The Arrma have plastic center driveshafts, but I’ve never had an issue with one. I recently donated both these trucks to a boys camp because I choose my big rock for the bashing I would’ve done with either of these.

Jus got my kraton 4s ... which was 100 less then the rustler 4x4 ...its bigger , faster , cheaper and very enjoyable for those men that are kids at heart

I would lean more towards the turn radius, which can be adjusted in the Traxxas Link app. Once you set it to the same radius as the Kraton you will notice a much similar experience.

The kraton 4S is 519$ in Canada and the maxx is 799$ so I don’t know that it is 300$ better 🤷‍♂️ I wish traxxas would make a simpler maxx without the bells and whistles like the self writing 😩

Your tired on the kraton are mounted on the wrong sides,look at the arrows pattern the point towards forward,does make a difference offroad

They were on backwards because I had done a quick how to replace the arms video right before. Didn’t catch it until then end. Still handled better than the Maxx with the wheels backwards, but the grass provides a lot of traction so it wouldn’t be noticeable and wasn’t worth reshooting the video...also because the Maxx was done for the day.

If I was to get an RC at the Maxx price I would get the Arrma Notorious. The better ground clearance will make it possible to bash at more locations than the Maxx.

the maxx is a much more stable truck a better rc for 50 less much more controllable much more traction and the revo has no durablity it breaks but its fun the maxx is maxx tough the revo eh not so much
